1. Canada is divided up into political divisions called territories and provinces. 2. Mountain ranges that run beside each other are called a cordillera. 3. Treeless plains where the ground stays frozen most of the year are tundra. 4. Glaciers are giant sheets of ice that once covered most of Canada and are responsible for many of the landforms we see today. 5. A grassy area with fertile soil that is ideal for farming and ranching is a prairie.

Even though the Canadian Shield has many mineral resources, not many people live there because of its location and climate. 10. Most of Canada’s economic activity takes place in the southern part of the country. 11. The climate in most of Canada is very cold in the winter because it is so far north………except for British Columbia. 12. The St. Lawrence River is an important waterway because you can travel from the Great Lakes to the Atlantic Ocean. Hmmm…….wonder if that’s why so many people live in that area…. 13. The highest mountain peak is Mount Logan near Alaska.
WOW……….Did you know we share landforms with Canada? 14. There are the five Great Lakes on the boarder. 15. In the center you find the Great Plains. 16. In the west you find the Rocky Mountains which tourists love to visit.
Did you notice…………. 17. That cool diagram on page 159? The St. Lawrence Seaway has a system of locks and canals to help ships travel through the lakes since they are not all at the same height above sea level.
