What is an ebook? An ebook is the electronic version of a print book:
You can read the text on screen
You can type notes and print pages subject to copyright regulations
You can access within College or from home
Accessing ebrary ebooks You can search for ebooks though the College library catalogue or directly from the ebrary ebooks website. In the library catalogue search results, ebooks are highlighted in red.
Outside College, you will be directed to a login page. Type Mid Cheshire College into the Where Are You From search bar and click proceed. In the login box, use your normal student network login and password combination. You will then be taken to the Ebrary homepage.
From the ebrary homepage page you can navigate to the Search, Quick View or Bookshelf options

Using Ebrary ebooks MCC Library Central
Online Resources Series On the homepage, there is a Simple Search box below these tabs. Click on the Search tab to begin searching for books and to get more accurate results. Go to the Search tab and enter your search terms or if you know the book you are looking for and can be more specific, use the Text and Key Fields drop-down list and selecting Title or Author etc.
If you are not sure which book you are looking for, select Subject from the Search in dropdown menu and type in the subject area you wish to view, e.g. business Once you have entered your search terms, click Search and the results will display in a list below the search box: You may want to refine your search, especially if multiple results are found. You can also sort by relevance, title, publisher etc via the options on the right hand side.
How to View an Ebook To open an ebook, click once on the cover or underlined title. If you searched for your books through the library catalogue, you will be taken to this step and the book will open after you login. To navigate through the ebook, click on the back a page and forward a page arrows above the page of the book, or double click anywhere on the page. You can also key in the page number you wish to view. You can go straight to a chapter by clicking the chapter title from the list on the right of the screen.

Infotools: Printing Click once on Infotools and select Print. You can either print specific page numbers or the current chapter. If you want to print a specific page, use the page numbers in the brackets from the ebook. You can choose to print the Current Page, specific page numbers or the Current Chapter. Please note that current copyright rules must be followed.
Infotools: Define and Explain Highlight the word you want a definition or explanation for. Click once on the Infotools icon and select either Define or Explain from the drop down list. If you selected define it takes you to the dictionary entry and if you selected explain it takes you to the encyclopaedia entry.
Infotools: Copying Text To copy text click and drag your mouse over the text you wish to copy to highlight it. This works like drawing a box around the text you want to highlight. Go to Infotools and click once on Copy. You will then be prompted to Use Ctrl+C to copy text. Open Word document and paste in the text by clicking on the Clipboard icon at the top left: The referencing information for the text is automatically copied into the document.
Highlighting Text and Making Notes You can highlight bits of text and make your own notes which will be saved in your ebrary account for you to access again. Click and drag your mouse over the text you wish to highlight and select the highlighter icon:

Renewing Books Online MCC Library Central

The text automatically turns yellow and is stored in the Your Notes tab, circled right. The start of the highlighted text and page number are shown. To delete the note click once on the rubbish bin icon, then OK.
To add your own notes, use the arrow beside the highlighter icon. The top three icons with a single line highlight and the bottom three with a sticky note add notes. Your note will appear next to your highlighted text: Type your notes and click OK to save. You can access them from the Notes tab whenever you login.
Downloading and Exporting You can download pdf files of specific chapters and specified page ranges. You also have the option to download the entire book for 14 days. If you want to download the book on your home PC or laptop, you will need Adobe Digital Editions and there is a link to download this. You can also export search results and email your Bookshelf to a friend.
