COLLEGE FOR KIDS: IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD

College for Kids brings In Your Neighborhood summer camps to a variety of locations convenient for you and your family. In Your Neighborhood camps are designed for children ages 5-11. These creative and fun programs build curiosity, life skills and academic skills with topics that kids love to explore.

BUILD YOUR OWN “IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD” DAY CAMP EXPERIENCE

Schedule up to three camp experiences at one location to enhance the summer camp experience.

1: Choose a convenient location.

2: Select one camp in each time frame for your child’s age, up to three camps total.

3: Register online or by phone.

4: On the day of camp, your child will be escorted between classrooms to each registered session.

HOURS AND HOLIDAYS

In Your Neighborhood camps run only in the mornings. Check out the College for Kids and College for Teens sections in this mailer for additional educational opportunities.

In Your Neighborhood classes for College for Kids are held for four days, Monday through Thursday, except the week of June 16 at Deerfield Elementary School. In observance of the Juneteenth holiday, the Blair camps will be held Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with longer class sessions to make up for not having camp on Thursday.

DRESS APPROPRIATELY

Classes can get messy. Students should wear clothes that they don't mind getting stained.

AGES

In Your Neighborhood camps have activities geared toward social, fine-motor and intellectual skills for children ages 5-11. Camps are sorted by age in each location. Any 5-year-old who has completed kindergarten may be enrolled for a class for 6-year-olds.

DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP INFORMATION

Students enrolled in High Fives must be dropped off and picked up at their classroom each day. These classes end at 11:45 a.m. each day. A code will be given to the parent/guardian at the time of drop-off. Whoever picks up the child must have that day’s code.

For an added level of security, students enrolled in classes held for ages 6-11 will be walked outside by an MCC aide for pickup each day. Parents/guardians will not need to come into the building for pickup. Staggered pick-up times are below. In case of rain, students will wait inside the main entrance for pickup.

TUITION

High Fives..................................$75 per week

(Entering kindergarten in the fall)

Future Educators...............$75 per week (Ages 13-18)

All other classes.....................$55 per week

11:45 a.m.: High Fives 11:55 a.m.: 10- and 11-year-olds

Noon: 8- and 9-year-olds 12:05 p.m.: 6- and 7-year-olds

High Fives (age 5)

Get ready to draw, write, cut and glue, paint and work on art projects! Using engaging activities that appeal to 5-year-olds who will enter kindergarten in the fall, High Fives covers concepts that include days of the week, months, the alphabet, counting, simple math and patterns. There will be a snack each day.

1-2-3 Crafting

Explore texture, color and design skills as you create projects to keep or give. Our experienced instructor will help you take your design idea from concept through completion of your project.

3D Pen Creations

Discover how to create amazing 3D objects that can be brought to life with a 3D pen. You will literally have the technology at your fingertips to draw, connect and engineer artwork, exploring the spatial reasoning and problem-solving skills that turn 2D fragments into a 3D project.

Archeological Discovery

Embark on a journey back through time — we will uncover ancient mysteries and explore the fascinating world of archaeology! Through simulated digs and immersive learning, you will learn the fundamentals of discovering artifacts, how modern radar and mapping technology can help uncover unseen worlds, as well as gain an understanding of ancient civilizations.

Artwork Lab

In this lab, you will express your artistic side through art mediums like pottery, drawing and painting while you learn techniques to enhance your skills.

Art Ventures

Travel the world through art! Explore and create art inspired by Greece, Egypt, Africa and other cultures around the world.

Build Your Own Board Game

Animal Adventures

What do you know about animal camouflage? Did you know that some creatures have the power to regenerate? Animals have developed an amazing range of behaviors, physical attributes and changes, migration patterns and other cool strategies for survival. Join us to explore the astonishing powers of the creature world.

Playing board games builds skills and strategic thinking, but designing your own unique board game requires a different strategy as you and your fellow game designers come up with rules, fun challenges and a competitive game objective. Explore various game structures as you work with your team to build a board game everyone will want to play.

Chemical Reactions

Bubbles! Eruptions! Changes in color! This course is all about what happens during chemical reactions. Kids will conduct experiments that demonstrate both slow and fast reactions. Come learn some mad science!

Chess Champions

This is the ultimate class for aspiring strategists. Dive into the fascinating world of chess and sharpen your mind with every move.

Eco-Quest: Guardians of Nature

Learn about relating to nature through outside activities, conservation education and experimental learning.

FitFun Club

Ignite a passion for physical activity. We’re going to get active with a combination of games, challenges and teamwork you will love. These creative and enjoyable workouts boost coordination, strength and confidence.

Future Educators (ages 12-18)

Learn skills in classroom leadership and lesson planning as you get hands-on experience working with students in this interactive class.

Gadget Examiners

Uncover the mystery of everyday electronics as you dismantle old items using the right tools for the job. Learn how various parts in electronics and appliances work.

Jr. Detective Training

Be your own crime scene investigator as you capture and record impressions, take measurements and make your examination of the scene. Learn to solve crimes through photography, fingerprinting, investigative questioning and analyzing footprints and teeth prints.

Junior Engineers

Are you a budding inventor, a problem-solver or a builder at heart? Prepare to spark your imagination with hands-on, interactive projects and challenges.

Kitchen Chemists

Everyday kitchen items and household materials become the basis of chemistry experiments during this class. These seemingly ordinary items spark curiosity as the chemical reactions fizz, foam, solidify and change color.

LEGO® Engineering

This classic has been updated to include the use of mechanics in brick construction. Explore engineering from the design phase to the completed build.

Mini Med School

Dive deep into the human body as we look at everything, from your head to your toes, in this hands-on biology class. You will get up close and personal with preserved animal organs and make connections to how the human body functions.

Snack Attack

Tired of the same old snack each and every day? Make your snack attack with these healthy, kid-friendly recipes you can make yourself! You will get to create and sample new snacks each day. Note: If your child has a food allergy, please let us know.

Space Exploration

Prepare for takeoff! We will explore the lunar phases, planets and constellations with hands-on activities that will bring the science of astronomy to life.

The Science of Harry Potter™

Join us for this Hogwarts-style summer camp where even muggles can learn real-life science skills like potions and transfiguration with simple ingredients and supplies. Explore these fun and exciting science projects that are so cool, it’s like magic!

TRANSPORTATION

Students and their parents or guardians are responsible for all transportation arrangements. Drop off and pick up your students at assigned locations.

REFUND POLICY

Cancellations made by MCC are fully refunded. Full refunds will be issued to students who withdraw from most camps/workshops at least one business day prior to the camp start date. For Culinary Arts camps, students must withdraw at least seven days prior to the camp start date to qualify for a full refund. No credit will be issued for any camps/workshops dropped on or after the camp's start date. To withdraw your registration, call 531-MCC-5231.

It is the parent/guardian’s responsibility to notify us of any allergies that a student may have and should note those at the time of registration. Please note, courses held at the Institute for the Culinary Arts are held in commercial kitchens with allergens present, and while all efforts possible will be made to keep students out of direct contact with allergens, no room can be guaranteed as allergen-free.

LIABILITY

MCC assumes no liability for accidents that occur while participating in College for Kids or College for Teens classes and provides no funds to cover medical costs. Participants are reminded that participation is entirely voluntary and are strongly urged to have their own health insurance.

PHOTOGRAPHY RELEASE

Metropolitan Community College reserves the right to take photos and videos of summer camp/workshop participants for promotion. Your registration serves as permission for use of photos/videos that may be taken.
