FROM THE COMMANDING OFFICER


Welcome to MCCS Marine Corps Community Services serves the Marine Corps Air Station New River community by providing goods and services to benefit service members, civilian employees, retirees and family members - we all make up the community of MCCS patrons. MCCS is staffed with community members, each contributing their personal best effort to make your tour at this air station a memorable one. In the next few years, MCAS New River will be welcoming new troops with units relocating from MCAS Cherry Point. We will also be welcoming their families onto our base. In order to fulfill the MCCS New River mission to provide exceptional programs and services in support of mission readiness, MCCS New River will be undergoing over 20 new renovation projects in the next few years. We hope these projects make your experience aboard New River a memorable one by making MCAS New River the best tour in the Marine Corps. MCAS New River conducts mandatory Welcome Aboard Briefs every second and fourth Thursday of the month from 8 - 11:30 am. This brief provides you the opportunity to complete part of the requirements on the new arrival check-in sheet as well as provide you with current base and community information. Spouses are encouraged to attend.

Classes held Monday - Friday Personal training and a variety of free aerobics classes are offered throughout the week to encourage a healthy lifestyle. If group classes are not for you, try the well-maintained cardiovascular machines or workout in the weight room. Unit PT instruction available by appointment. We have certified exercise specialists on staff to help special populations with unique fitness needs, and those recovering from injuries in need of rehabilitation programs.

As part of this project, we will be installing low-level lighting along the asphalt running course enabling runners to use the trail 24 hours a day.

High Intensity Tactical Training (H.I.T.T.) Center 449-5845/7698 Bldg, AS-4026, off Schmidt St. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday: 6 - 7 am This facility is open to active duty only and will be used to enhance operational fitness levels and optimize combat readiness and resiliency for the Marines. It incorporates state of the art "human" powered equipment, a 25 meter indoor sprint course, climbing wall, pull-up bars and suspension trainers. Unique to this training will be the new Dart Fish computerized fitness feedback system that films individuals and then provides immediate feedback on proper training techniques to help maximize results. The HITT Center Staff is also responsible for making CFT Field Reservations and can be reached at 449-5854/7698.


Aquatics

MCAS New River's Aquatics program offers American Red Cross swim lessons taught by American Red Cross Certified Water Safety Instructors at 449-4307 as well as offering Water Fitness and Recreational Swim Programs for our patrons.

(Adjacent to the Officers' Club) This seasonal pool is a zero depth entry pool, geared toward families with small children. The pool has a max depth of 5'5" and is available for private parties during the summer. Water shoes are highly encouraged in this plaster pool. Our new Fitness Center is a 47,000 sq. ft. facility with a six lane, 50 meter indoor swimming pool. The pool is equipped with a floating dock that allows for year-round swim lessons and recreational swimming. Young children are required to wear swim pants and/or rubber pants.

Monday- Friday: 8 am - 4:30 pm Semper Fit offers a variety of programs geared to meet the needs of service members serving aboard MCAS New River. Our programs include intramural leagues and varsity sports. Participants must be an active duty service member, DoD employee, or military dependent 18 years of age or older and stationed aboard New River. For more information about our programs and guidelines regarding dependent participation please contact the Athletic Director at the number above. Intramural Sports are offered for unit level participation. Individuals interested in participating intramural Sports should contact their unit representative. If your unit does not have a team involved in the sport you wish to participate in, you may participate with another unit team within your major command. Official Team Rosters and Letter of Intent forms can be picked up and turned in to the Sports Office located at Building AS-4000.

Youth Sports (Bldg. AS-4000)

Monday - Friday: 8 am - 5 pm We are an affiliate of Camp Lejeune’s Youth Sports and are designed to offer dependent youth of active duty and retired military, and DoD employees a variety of opportunities to participate in organized sporting activities. We encourage children to develop enthusiasm for participation, which becomes the foundation for life-long interests in personal fitness and good health. Our emphasis is on skills development, being positive role models, sportsmanship, team work and above all, having fun! The Hockey Rink is regulation size for inline hockey games and is open year round. Anyone can reserve the rink a day in advance. Youth leagues run from November to March and adult leagues run from April to October. More youth hockey information can be found on the youth sports page of our website at www.mccsnr.com. Adult pick-up hockey games run year-round and all players wearing required gear are welcome to attend. For times and days, call 449-6714. Gear requirements: Helmet with 1/2 face shield, elbow pads, hockey gloves, knee/shin guards, mouth piece, hockey sticks, and skates. You can also take a walk on our fitness trails or newly constructed boardwalk along the river or use our swimming area, outdoor grills, fishing pier, volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, or basketball court. *All patrons who wish to rent a motorized watercraft, are required to take the North Carolina NASBLA course and present a certificate of completion at the time of rental. This free course is offered online at www.boatus.org. *Anyone who wishes to fish must have in their possession a NC Fishing License. It is recommended that you have both a saltwater/freshwater license, due to the proximity of the Marina. To fish in the base ponds you must also have a base fishing license. Adjoining the Eagle's Nest is the New River Ballroom, which may be reserved separately or in conjunction with the Eagle's Nest for large functions. The New River Room offers a built in gas fireplace with marble surround that is sure to complement any type of function. The New River room also offers a gorgeous view of the New River and sits up to 125 people. We also offer a secluded meeting room that offers privacy and functionality for presentations. This room is named in honor of General McCutcheon and is appointed with military photos dating back to the 1950's. The McCutcheon Room can hold 30 - 40 people. The Landing Zone Lounge features a full bar with nine varieties of draft beer and a nostalgic military theme that boasts the pride of our MCAS New River units. The NPSP offers a wide range of support services to expectant parents and families with children ages zero to five. Services include prenatal and postpartum support, parenting classes, play groups and home visitation.

The Library has computers, laptops, and iPads with free Internet access. Printers are available for use, as is a fax machine, scanner, and copier. Books from the Commandant's Reading list are available in print, audio, and ebook format.

Bldg. AS-232 Pre-Separation and Pre-Retirement/Transition Readiness Seminar (TRS) offers classes along with individual counseling pertaining to separation or retiring. We assist family members (spouses and eligible family members over the age of 16) with employment opportunities to include basic employment workshops including federal employment information.


Exceptional Family Member Program (Bldg. AS-112) 449-5251 The Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) is designed to provide assistance to active duty personnel and their families who have physical, medical or educational needs. If special needs are suspected or identified, enrollment is mandatory for the service member based on MCO P1754.4B.

Relocation Assistance Program (Bldg. AS-232)

The Relocation Assistance Program provides services for inbound and outbound service members and civilians. Classes include Smooth Move (PCSing), Sponsorship Training and the Welcome Aboard Indoctrination. The program also has a well-stocked loan locker for service members and civilians to utilize when arriving or departing MCAS New River. Other services include: free catalogs, maps and area information.

The Lifeskills program seeks to engage, educate and offer referral services to Marines, Sailors and their families regarding various skill sets and resources necessary to be successful in the hectic Military environment. Some classes offered under this program are as followed: Pre-Marital Workshop, Marriage “His Needs/ Her Needs” Workshop, “Five Love Languages” Workshop, Family Care Plan Workshop, Personality Style, etc.

Coordinators are experts on MCCS services and activities. The coordinator plans, develops, administers, and provides assistance for a balanced program of family readiness, recreational and leisure activities. Coordinators are the one stop shop in obtaining MCCS support. They will work with unit readiness and MCCS services and activities. They are responsible for assisting the Family Readiness Officer and Unit Commander in accessing critical services that will improve morale and mission readiness.

The RDS Trainer offers assistance to units and families through pre-, during, post-deployment, and readiness workshops and presentations. These workshops include Pre-Deployment Briefs, Beyond the Briefs, Kids n’ Deployment, In the Midst, Spouse’s Return and Reunion, Kids n’ Reunion, and While We Wait Club.

Children, Youth & Teen Programs 449-5633/4300 Resource & Referral The Resource & Referral office will assist all families in the registration process for Children, Youth & Teen Programs.

Child Development Center (Bldg. AS-1000)

Monday - Friday: 6 am - 6 pm The Child Development Center (CDC) offers full day care for children six weeks to five years of age (not enrolled in kindergarten). The CDC complies with Department of Defense standards and is NAEYC accredited. A variety of planned group and individual activities tailored to children’s developmental needs are offered. Hourly care is offered on a space available basis from 8 am - 5 pm. The CDC is located next to SNCO housing, and maintains a list of certified home childcare providers.

Youth & Teen Activities Center (Bldg. AS-612)

Monday - Friday: School Age Care 6 am - 6 pm , Open Rec. Mon. - Fri.: 3 - 8 pm & Sat.: 10 am - 8 pm (age appropriate) The center offers a variety of planned group and individual activities for children ages 6 - 12 or those enrolled in kindergarten through sixth grade. Some of the services include School Age Care, field trips, day camps during school breaks and cultural exchange events. Boys and Girls Club Programs The Youth and Teen Activities Center is an affiliate of the Boys and Girls Club of America. We offer a variety of programs specializing in Character and Leadership Development, Career & Education Development, Health and Life Skills, The Arts, Sports, Fitness and Recreation.

The staff of the finance office provides service to the organization internally and to MCCS patrons. We also make payments to vendors and contract personnel.
