JESUIT UNIVERSITY Chartered in 1912, Loyola University New Orleans is one of America’s 28 Jesuit institutions of higher learning. Our rich history dates back to the early 18th century when the Jesuits first arrived in New Orleans. Loyola seeks to prepare its students to be active participants on the global stage. Rather than simply teaching future graduates what to think, we teach them how to think. This critical distinction is at the very heart of what it means to receive a Jesuit education.

UNIQUE LOCATION Loyola’s scenic campuses stand in the heart of Uptown, one of the most prestigious and historic neighborhoods in the city. We are conveniently located on the famous St. Charles Avenue streetcar line, and the French Quarter and downtown New Orleans are only a 20minute ride away. Numerous museums, historical sites, and exceptional cuisine from the finest restaurants are found nearby. Across from main campus is the renowned Audubon Zoo and Park, a perfect place for walking, jogging, or golf.

CAMPUSES Our 20-acre main campus is a mix of Tudor-Gothic and contemporary architecture surrounded by grand walkways in a garden-like setting. A few blocks up St. Charles Avenue lies our four-acre Broadway campus, which is home to the College of Law, Cabra Residence Hall, Department of Visual Arts, and historic Greenville Hall. STUDENT BODY Loyola had a total fall 2010 enrollment of approximately 4,980 students, including 2,965 undergraduates. Our student population consists of representatives from 49 states and 47 foreign countries. Thirty-five percent of our undergraduate students belong to an ethnic minority. THE CLASSROOM Strong student-faculty relationships are important at Loyola. A typical class consists of 22 students. We take pride in our students’ close working relationships with professors. Our student/faculty ratio of 12 to 1 ensures individual attention for every student. All students are advised by faculty members selected according to the student’s field of specialization. Eighty-eight percent of full-time faculty at Loyola hold a terminal degree in their field, and the remaining 12 percent are working toward a terminal degree.

STUDENT LIFE Because of the Jesuit tradition of educating the whole person, we are interested in students who are serious about their education, yet want to enjoy themselves while they learn. Extracurricular activities as well as academics are vital to the process of achieving a wellrounded Jesuit education. Learning knows no boundaries at Loyola. Campus life experiences enhance a student’s learning. More than 120 organizations provide a variety of activities for our students. They include academic and professional societies, social and honorary fraternities and sororities, service organizations, special interest groups, sports clubs, and media organizations. ATHLETICS The Loyola Wolfpack intercollegiate athletic program competes in the NAIA Division I as a member of the Southern States Athletic Conference. Loyola has competitive men’s and women’s basketball, cross country, tennis, track (distance), women’s volleyball, and men’s baseball. Students can also participate in a host of intramural recreational sports.

Loyola Graduates

Admission Criteria

Cost and Financial Aid

A survey of graduating seniors in 2009 reported that 57 percent had an internship, externship, clerkship, or field practicum while at Loyola. Loyola’s Career Development Center works closely with students to determine career direction, conduct internship and job searches, and connect with employers. Our alumni have recently been placed with such companies as Adidas, Shell Oil Company, Sony Records, Xerox, The Washington Post, IBM, Metropolitan Opera, and the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra.

Loyola bases admissions decisions on several factors, including academic record, ACT or SAT scores, counselor/teacher recommendation, essay, and resume of extracurricular involvement/leadership. The writing component of the SAT and ACT will not be used for admission, but will be used for English placement.

The 2011 – 2012 annual costs are $32,266 for tuition, $10,750 for room and board, and approximately $1,346 in resident fees or $1,286 in commuter fees. There are scholarships and financial aid available. More than 450 academic and talent-based scholarships may be given each year, and 84 percent of our students receive some form of financial aid.

Each student is treated as an individual with individual needs and strengths. In 2010, the average GPA of an incoming freshman was 3.77. The middle 50 percent of all entering freshmen scored between 570 – 670 on the SAT critical reading, between 540 – 650 on the SAT math, and between 24 – 29 on the ACT. As Loyola practices rolling admissions, students are notified of admission decisions within two to three weeks of receipt of all required application materials.
