welcome welcome Dear MCE CEE professionals, With great honor and pleasure we welcome you to the second annual MICE congress in Prague! MCE CEE was conceptually born from the need to better understand the large potential available within Central and Eastern Europe. After the success and great feedback received of the MCE CEE 2011 we have been aiming for suitable growth, ensuring a broader communication of the MICE possibilities within CEE. However, we have also set a maximum to the number of participants, to ensure the compactness of the event leading to increased networking and benchmarking possibilities. To really get to know the quality behind the services within CEE, to take a little bit more time to really understand the progress that has been made and the result you will get from placing your meetings within the CEE region, such exclusive interaction is the key to a better understanding and prosperous business future. In current times some worrying news related to the economical conditions reach us. Besides the undeniable quality and potential the CEE Solution Providers are offering at the MCE CEE, reducing costs and communicating such cost saving externally is an ethical business or governmental practice nowadays. Speaking about ethics, we’re - as an organization - also trying to improve the world around us by looking at the sustainability of the event. Not losing sight of the need of information for everyone as well as quality products and services, we’re pleased to announce our partnership with the Sustainable Event Alliance.

The conference bags, lanyards and the printed version of the brochure are all made from recycled materials. The badges are produced from FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) approved paper. FSC approved means every tree used for making paper is replanted with a new tree, making it very eco friendly. Besides that, Corinthia hotel and all other partners are finding new ways how to develop sustainability within their services. Having said that, we know the CEE region is still developing every day. Yet a very solid base already exists, offering quality of similar or even higher level than anywhere else. Huge increase of flight routes into and within the region, numerous undiscovered incentives highlights and many new purpose build venues add to the regions undisputable power to make your event a success. cee q&a with Renate Trachtenberg Regional Manager Central Europe Kuoni Travel Ltd. Destination Management Q: How can the CEE region develop into a region claiming as much MICE business as the “West”? A: Infrastructure is the key. Convenient flight connections, suitable hotel accommodation, state of the art congress venues, modern means of transportation are the “hardware” needed. Moreover the soft skills are of more and more importance: Safety in the destination, cleanliness of the environment as well as attitude and friendliness of service staff. Furthermore targeted Marketing & Sales-Activities are the basis to make potential clients aware of the services a destination might offer: if the so called “East” really wants to outplay the “West”, it needs to invest more in marketing like the “West”. There is a big potential for “new” destinations, especially in the field of incentive trips. Q: What progress is CEE currently making in general? A: The CEE region is currently doing very well – it offers very good service, the range of possibilities is wide; despite the many new airports, hotels and event venues, there is still a way for the infrastructure to keep improving – due to its growth in terms of MICE industry, new airports, congress center, tradeshow areas etc. have to be built to satisfy the market even further. Q: CEE has many great congress venues, what about incentive possibilities? A: It is crucial that the local suppliers are aware of the difference between incentives and tourist groups. An incentive is a reward and motivation tool by a company to staff or clients, a unique program is anticipated. Activities have to be outstanding and can hardly be arranged by individual guests themselves. Creativity is needed, each event demands tailor made itineraries. Doctors invited by a pharmaceutical company have different expectations than ladies from a cosmetics enterprise or young IT specialists. Sometimes I have the impression that these differences in the target audience are ignored. Q: In what level of progress is sustainability currently in the CEE? A: Companies are putting emphasis on the solution providers’ activities relating to the environment and use of resources (water, energy, waste). New companies are emerging, focusing on providing environment friendly service. More emphasis is put in general on preserving the nature by recycling and reducing the consumption of paper, for example.

Q: Why is it important for the region the MCE CEE event takes place? A: Because of all the developments ongoing, the CEE region deserves to be highlighted in an own dedicated event. So much is changing so fast that showcasing the possibilities the entire region has, is an absolute necessity to reach out to and to increase the markets knowledge about the CEE. Q: Why should companies place their business events in the CEE region? A: Companies can get very good value for money and at the same time less known destinations can be explored. With flight connections getting better and better, there is plenty of still undiscovered potential in this region.

The CEE - Central and Eastern Europe - is a term describing former communist states in Europe, after the collapse of the Iron Curtain in 1989/90. CEE includes all the Eastern bloc countries west of the post-World War II border with the former Soviet Union, the independent states in former Yugoslavia, and the three Baltic states. Within the events concept we have enclosed some additional countries that may be regarded as Central and Eastern Europe for various reasons. Russia: The link between CEE and Russia used to be and is still very close, especially in terms of business development. Austria: Is in fact geographically closed in from the North, East and South by 4 CEE countries. Germany: Mainly the Eastern part has a similar development process ongoing as most of the CEE countries, besides being generally regarded Central Europe. Greece: Connected to three CEE states and in current economical set back does offer a similar progressive business tourism approach and many quality MICE solutions.
