Puerto Madryn
The Tehuelche Monument
Housed in a landmark, just where the story began in the city, where the pioneers started to set foot Patagonian and now operates a museum Welsh historic feat, the memorial to the Indian Tehuelche city has identified as over our prolific history. This monument, though battered by time and sometimes by people, is our most famous icon almost as much as the tails of whales. This symbol of Puerto Madryn was the work of artist Luis Perlotti in 1965, the cornerstone was laid in conjunction with the inauguration of the monument to the Welsh woman, on the centennial of colonization.
Note the relationship between sculpture facing Welsh Puerto Madryn and El Tehuelche looking at the Gulf and those who visit it. Another anecdotal piece of data is the dress of our symbol, which is a bit misleading, since in fact more closely resembles the clothing worn by the Guarani, much lighter, whereas the Teuelches -due to the low temperatures of the area - wore ‘quillangos’ and leather to wrap them up. It is one of the most outstanding views of the city of Puerto Madryn. From here you can see the city, the beaches, the nearby cliffs and all the coastal area south of the city, and the sea from above.
The Monument is a key point for the inhabitants of the city as it is at the end of the road along the seafront and it’s in right the roundabout that you go round to head for the city centre. That's why in the afternoon it is customary to reach this point, just on foot or by car, at end the day to drink mate or just watch a spectacular sunset.
The Welsh Woman Monument
This monument was built to commemorate the landing of the Welsh in Puerto Madryn on July 28, 1865. The sculptures on both sides show the landing. At the back to the right of the monument, you can see a similar statue of an Aboriginal looking to the sea. • • •

In 1865 landed the Welsh settlers in Puerto Madryn on July 28 onboard a sailboat called 'Mimosa' looking for new cultures. First of all, the aborigines were scared because of the big ships and white skinned people, but then, they became friends. Welsh people and aborigines traded food for water.
The Cinema
The cinema was founded on August 10, 1913. The cinema was founded by the Italian immigrant community . They aimed at keeping their traditions by having a place to socialize. The cinema, in its first decade, only had a projector that had been brought from Italy. The people who went to the cinema had to bring a chair from their home. The screen was a large piece of cloth placed on the wall.
Ecocentro
In 1990 arises the idea to create a nonprofit organization to function as an interpretative center of the marine ecosystem, with emphasis on the Patagonian Sea. Its creator is Alfredo Lichter, a naturalist, a writer and now the President of the Foundation Ecocenter working for the conservation of nature in our country. Later, Claudio Campagna joined, a renowned biologist from Puerto Madryn, who specializes in marine life. The building was begun in 1998 and on June 15, 2000 the Ecocenter opened with high expectations and over three hundred people attended the opening party .
The building, whose architectural style reminds us of the Welsh immigrants' housing, is strategically located on a cliff as a large viewpoint overlooking the sea. But not only because it allows visitors to behold it from the large windows but also because each room of the venue shows something about the fascinating Patagonian sea world. Visitors learn about the characteristics of the sea currents, varieties of algae, the behavior of whales and the differences among seals, sea lions and elephant seals. Furthermore, at one end of the main hall, next to another large window, there is a large pond with small invertebrates which children can feed every afternoon.
As a cultural space, the Ecocentro presents itinerant exhibitions from the Fine Arts Museum and organizes various cultural and educational events addressed to the community. Some of their exhibitions and cultural programmes are sponsored by Aluar and they also offer educational programmes for the schools located in the Province of Chubut (free of charge), especially for those away from the eastern coast. In short, the Ecocenter invites its visitors to find and see the sea from a different perspective.
Chalet Pujol
The house was owned by Agustin Pujol, a Spaniard, who arrived in Chubut in 1893. Pujol settled in Puerto Madryn in 1904 to do business, mostly trading and the strategic location of his house gave him an excellent view of all the port area. In 1908 he married a descendant of a Welsh family : Do単a Anita Howell Jones. The Villa or 'Chalet', as we know it, was built between 1915 and 1917, and most of the materials were brought from Europe. It is a house of approximately 545 square meters, whose architectural composition is reduced to a prismatic volume and an octagonal tower. The building has four floors connected by a spiral staircase of four sections, with solid stone steps carved by hand, embedded in the perimeter wall.
Only the brick and the stones of the walls of the staircase are from the local area. All the other building materials were brought from abroad: English majolica, Venetian floors, Italian openings, etc.. The architectural beauty of the building added to its antiquity of it makes it icon in Madryn society. It is noteworthy that his heirs (his nephews) decided to donate the property to the Province of Chubut and that's how on February 22, 1972 it was opened as the Provincial Natural Science Museum and Aquarium, now 'Museo del Hombre y del Mar', It has nine rooms with an interesting collection of relics and stuffed animals. It is located in Garcia and Menendez Domeqc streets of the city of Puerto Madryn.

El Almendro Restaurant
The Almond Restaurant opened its doors on August 21, 2008, offering exquisite Mediterranean and traditional cuisine (Including vegetarian dishes). It's located in a refurbished old house keeping its old floors and openings providing a warm and familiar atmosphere to make you feel at home! The house has sentimental value because it belongs to a personal friend of the chef’s, whose father planted the tree with a family almond from Europe that gives its name to the restaurant. The tree was put in value lit in the entrance to the premises. The Almond is much more than a good restaurant ... it is the opportunity to taste a fine wine or enjoy a fusion of Mediterranean dishes, accompanied by great music and chat with friends.
