From a young age I have loved being creative and “pretending” to space plan my room and imagine new ways to create floor plans for my home. I never thought about interior design as a career until high school when I stumbled upon an interior design class that my school offered. Now being in college, taking these classes, and creating these spaces, I now realize that all the “pretending” I did when I was younger was really what I had wanted to do. I would describe my style as a mix of classic mid century with a spin of modern aspects. I love creating out of the ordinary and making spaces unique. I am always looking forward to learning and being exposed to things that I am not used to doing.

The objective of this project was to renovate an empty retail space located in a strip mall area into a showroom for National Fur niture. One of the credentials was to make this space LEED certified. There was a team of workers that needed to be accommodated but also make sure that the showroom was able to show case all of the pieces.

CONCEPT

We decided to have the team of workers in the back half of the space to separate the showroom from the working space. The showroom consists of different configurations of workspaces, a large conference room that is elevated to add visual interest, and a community space to add to the residential feel that commercial s p a c e s a r e u s i n g n o w.

The objective for this project was to create a music academy for the music department at the University of Northern Iowa. This was an existing plan and we were to reconfigure it to function for the music school. There are children from young ages to collegiate levels using this space so making sure it is functional for all ages was important. This class focused heavily on acoustics, lighting and mechanical systems.

CONCEPT

My partner and I wanted to make this space modern and inviting for anyone using the music school. We also wanting to keep the integrity of the school by using some of the school colors. We also wanted to keep the space open, inspiring, and bright by bringing in as much light as possible and using materials and finishes that weren’t too dark for the space.

T h e p u r p o s e o f t h i s project was to be able to create a space where artists could work and also live for an inexpensive amount.

CONCEPT

The group decided to use two different floors from this vacant building and split them in half because studies has shown that making sure people have the separation of work and living is vital to daily mental health. We wanted to make the space raw to reduce prices and to also stay with the history of the building. We also wanted to make sure that they spaces were inspiring and has everything that they need to create art.

INDIVIDUAL PROJECT RESIDENTIAL I SPRING SEMESTER 2018 OBJECTIVE

Follow the NKBA (National Kitchen and Bath Association) guidelines for the project and if desired to enter into the competition. Creating a kitchen and bathroom with floor plans given by the association and design at free will.

CONCEPT

The concept for both of these spaces is using modern materials and finishes to create a unique space that will create a sense of home. I wanted to make sure that the kitchen was a space where people could come together and enjoy the space. I used moder n finishes and colors throughout the room. In the bathroom, I wanted to create the sense of a spa and make sure that the room was relaxing, chic, and moder n.
