April showers really do bring May flwers to the Green Mountain State, including Vermont’s state flwer. It is beloved by cows, honeybees and many other animals. It is also used by some people to make tea and inspires its own cocktail. So what is Vermont’s state flwer?
ANSWER:
The red clover became Vermont’s officil state botanical in 1895. Farmers grow red clover for their cows and sheep, and honeybees gather nectar from their flwers. It is also the namesake of the Red Clover summer cocktail:
2 ounces vodka
2 ounces lemon juice
1 ounce sugar syrup
8 raspberries
1 ounce egg whites
Muddle the raspberries in a cocktail shaker then add all the other ingredients and ice. Shake well and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with some more raspberries and serve.
