Cold-weather Favorite Looking for ideas for a signature drink for your fall or winter wedding? Here’s one that has the just-right feeling of warmth — a Woodford Manhattan — created by Fratello’s Events in the Millyard, a wedding venue in Manchester. RECIPE: 5 ounces Fratello’s Barrel Reserve Woodford Manhattan 1/2 ounce sweet red vermouth

Pour all into cocktail shaker with ice and give it two quick shakes. Pour into cocktail glass with the remainder in a sidecar. Pour the dirty ice into another glass and set the sidecar into the glass to keep it chilled. Drop a Bass Bing cherry into the martini glass and enjoy.

No fake confetti, please. That was a request in a recent FB post by Curtis Farm, a wedding venue in Wilton. It said, “It lasts forever, is visible in the lawn for future weddings, and gets into our adjacent hayfields and eventually into the animals.” The post included an ecofriendly alternative: green leaves, biodegradable green leaves. Either nest whole leaves in wedding-exit bags or use a hole punch to create the confetti look.

LET IT

SNOW A love for winter’s natural beauty was the inspiration. "There’s something about winter that’s so whimsical, magical, and serene,” Carolina Marles says. "I feel winter needs to get the credit it deserves." So she assembled a team of pros to help create a wintry wedding with the season’s icy elements. It took place at The Preserve, a wedding venue that sits beside a lake in the shadow of Mount Chocorua. Photography / Coordination / Styling

Carolina Marles

For the invitation suite, Riddy Quinney of Ridgely Calligraphy incorporated

elements

from

the day — the snowy ground, the

setting,

and

a

contemporary flair — to give a sense of time and place. She kept the suite minimal, with the addition of handmade paper for a little softness. “The color palette was muted with pale neutral and icy blues, and contrasted with a deeper blue for the return envelopes — the best place to add a splash of color,” she says. A gold eucalyptus seal ties in the gold calligraphy.

New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE | 41

42 | New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE

Cool tones — white, gray, blue — dominate the florals. “We were going for icy elegance with a touch of free-spirited magic that a couple willing to share vows on a frozen lake must possess,” says Alyssa Van Guilder of Apotheca Flowers. The bridal bouquet is a mix of dyed and natural flowers, including light blue Bella Donna delphinium, purple compactum, David Austin garden rose “Princess Miyuki,” teepee leaves, plumose asparagus fern, powdered blue anemone, tweedia, tulips, thistle “Magna Questar,” acacia, lisianthus “Double Roseanne Brown,” “Playa Blanca” rose, white ranunculus and seeded eucalyptus.

The tablescape carries on the color palette of cool tones. A blue table runner as a backdrop for the centerpiece amplifies the blues. Subtle warm tones are interwoven. The gray plates and napkins sit on a gray-and-white patterned charger.

The wood of the barn and the table add a warm contrast to the icy look of the table setting and clear Chiavari chairs. Right: Three cakes created by Autumn Nomad continue the icy theme.

46 | New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE

“We incorporated pulled sugar and icy sugar flowers to give the illusion of the cakes being frozen,” says Jaime Melfi of Autumn Nomad. She also created a matching signature cocktail with infused burnt rosemary for a fire aspect with Hypnotiq and Absolut citron.

New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE | 47

48 | New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE

The couple enjoys an icy celebration on the lake. Opposite page: It looks like a cake made of ice, but it’s not. “I used edible sugar that looks like ice,” says Jaime Melfi of Autumn Nomad. She then designed fresh flowers around the cake.

New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE|49

Ice blue and gray create the color palette for this sweetheart table. The table itself is made of ice! It was transported to the lake from the maker, SubZero Ice Carvings. “We started with 300-pound crystal clear blocks of ice and cut the ice to the design,” says company owner, lead designer and carver Jason Bluck. It’s done with chainsaws and power tools.

The tablescape highlights what designer Jessica Raymond calls "an unforgettable setting for spending an evening outdoors enjoying the crisp autumn air." It features a wooden farm table adorned with a colorful mix of greenery and florals. Sprigs of greenery add a special touch to each place setting. The elegant garden centerpiece is designed with free spirit roses, dahlias, berries, eucalyptus and assorted greenery. Mahogany Chiavari chairs were selected to tie in with the natural outdoor setting. Oversized lanterns and vintage gold candle votives complete the perfect ambiance as the sun goes down. .

The dessert spread features a three-tiered chocolate chip cookie cake and an assortment of fall flavors, including mini maple pecan tarts, pumpkin whoopie pies, spiced pear cobbler and fig pastry bars. Above: An apple cider martini is served as a signature cocktail. Miniature apple pies garnish the glasses for a tasty bite between sips.

What happens when you combine Boho with a touch of the Southwest? You get an edgy, nontraditional look for a wedding that your guests will long remember. An amazing group of contributors, led by Mary Trombley of Lotus Floral Designs, created this inspiration shoot. Trombley says she wanted to keep the style simple and interesting so the emotion wouldn’t be overshadowed. And interesting it is. Just look at the macramÊ. And the dresses. And the moody florals. And the cake.

The loose hairstyles were created by Karen McNeil of Mode Salon using braidwork combing and setting techniques to create a natural wilder texture to the hair. Painted Boho-style accents were added to the makeup by Molly Shackford. Dried florals were used for the crowns.

Once the stunning macramé arbor piece (on the previous page) was created, Marissa Baynes of Rissa Bee Designs says she knew she had to create a lot of really special details to go along with it. One hangs from the table (left) that’s topped with a mix of Boho and Southwest elements.

Macramé, which is experiencing a resurgence, can be used in a variety of ways: here, as plate adornments, seat covers and bouquet wrap. Marissa Baynes of Rissa Bee Designs says, “It’s wonderful to take a fun vintage craft and be able to put a modern spin on it." The cake is from Autumn Nomad.

New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE | 73

An eye-catching way to display a cake — a macramé cake swing. The cake itself, created by Jaime Melfi of Autumn Nomad, is meant to resemble Southwest and Navajo textiles. The flavor: Southwest chocolate with chipotle peppers.
