The center will issue a full refund when a camp program is canceled by the center Requests for withdrawals and/or cancellations received before Friday, April 2, 2021, will receive a full refund.
CAMP McLEAN
All withdrawals, refunds and cancellation requests MUST be submitted in writing to registrar@mcleancenter.org.
Requests for withdrawals and/or cancellations after Friday, April 2, 2021, will be charged a $100 processing fee, which will be deducted from the total amount paid. If a replacement can be found to fill the space vacated by a cancellation and/or withdrawal, the $100 processing fee will be refunded to the patron. If a replacement cannot be found, a refund of the processing fee will not be issued. Refunds may be granted only for medical reasons or for extenuating circumstances as determined by the General Programs Director and the Registrar. Medical requests must be accompanied by a doctor’s note (verification)
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Camper Forms
Camper forms should be submitted one month prior to the start of camp. This allows time to complete any missing or otherwise incomplete forms prior to camp. Note: All forms must be complete and on hand at camp before your child will be admitted to camp. No exceptions will be made.

Camper Forms include: Forms will be available on the Camp McLean webpage, www.mcleancenter.org. • Camper Information Packet • A current and completed Certification of Immunization • A Commonwealth of Virginia School Entrance Physical Examination Form signed by a physician. A copy of the form is acceptable. All campers under the age of 6 years old must submit a Physical Examination form that is dated after August 3, 2020. • In accordance with Virginia law, camp staff members are required to witness a document with proof of your child’s age. You must bring one of the following items in when you register your child for camp. Note: Please do not leave originals. Acceptable documents include: 1. A certified copy of a birth certificate. 2. Camp Abrakadoodle 3–6 years
Morning and afternoon sessions offered each week. 9:30 a.m.–noon or 1:30–4 p.m. $195/$185 MCC district residents* (Week 2: $156/$148 MCC district residents*) *Materials fee is $35 (Material fee for Week 2 is $28); make check payable to Abrakadoodle. Fee is due to the instructor on the first day of camp. This popular series of imaginative art camps for children is based on the learning principles of Jean Piaget. Children create wonderful “masterpieces” using innovative art materials, while exploring artistic styles and techniques. Each half day camp offers unique experiences designed to foster creativity. Each week of camp will be a different theme. There are no full-day options for Abrakadoodle camps. Children must be fully potty trained. MPA is offering both in-person and virtual art camps. All in person camps will be following proper COVID-19 Social distancing guidelines to hold camps in person. Please note that camps will have a maximum capacity of eight (8) students. Students are required to wear masks at all times within the building. Pick-up and drop-off will be curbside as well. Starting from the “color wheel”, we will draw and drip paint on paper and canvas with colorful layers of paint, oil pastel and collage. We will experiment with different types of 2D printing and use pencil, pen, watercolor, acrylic, and mixed media. We will learn about exciting artists such as Jackson Pollock, Morris Louis, and other contemporary artists who use various techniques in their works.

This camp focuses on the interrelations of art with science, technology, engineering and math. Campers will explore nature and biological imagery through watercolor, ink and acrylic. Campers will take supervised nature walks into McLean Central Park for plein air sketching sessions of flora and fauna. They will also have the opportunity to collect leaves, flowers and other natural found objects to incorporate into their works.
Books come in all forms and are made of in just as many materials as their forms. In this camp, campers explore different styles of books, such as the accordion style, scrolls, and much more! They will learn the process of making their own paper, binding, and eventually forming their own book that can be used for their own stories, journaling, or as a stand-alone piece of art.

MPA’s Counselor in Training Program 14–18 years
Monday-Friday 8:45 a.m.–4:15 p.m. $395 for each two-week program.* *Minimum commitment of two weeks required for in-person camps. MPA’s Counselor in Training (CIT) program has been developed to enrich the experience of older campers at our summer art camps. CITs, chosen by MPA to participate, will experience working with younger children in a day camp setting. This program is designed to encourage teaching and leadership skills. CITs will assist in planning and leading activities for our young campers. This opportunity is ideal for students interested in art, teaching and developing their leadership style under the supervision of MPA’s master faculty. For Rising 5th–9th Graders With the end of the school year quickly approaching, there’s no need to worry about keeping your child active and happy this summer. The Old Firehouse Summer Camp has you covered with eight weeks of fantastic trips and memorable experiences. Be sure to sign up early as these weeks sell out fast. For your convenience, there are three ways you can register: online, by phone or at the Old Firehouse, 1440 Chain Bridge Rd., McLean Va. 22101. The Old Firehouse summer participant contracts for 2021 should be submitted no later than Friday, June 4, 2021. All other forms and waivers will be sent to you via email and will also be available at the Old Firehouse prior to your camp week. Camp will be held Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. On certain trips, return times will be later due to trip locations. Trips depart and return to the Old Firehouse Teen Center. Campers may want to bring additional money each day for snacks and incidentals.

2021 SUMMER CAMP TRIPS REFUND POLICY All withdrawals, refunds and cancellation requests MUST be submitted in writing to registrar@mcleancenter.org. The center will issue a full refund when a camp program is canceled by the center Requests for withdrawals and/or cancellations received before Friday, April 2, 2021, will receive a full refund. Requests for withdrawals and/or cancellations after Friday, April 2, 2021, will be charged a $100 processing fee, which will be deducted from the total amount paid. If a replacement can be found to fill the space vacated by a cancellation and/or withdrawal, the $100 processing fee will be refunded to the patron. If a replacement cannot be found, a refund of the processing fee will not be issued. Refunds may be granted only for medical reasons or for extenuating circumstances as determined by the General Programs Director and the Registrar. Medical requests must be accompanied by a doctor’s note (verification)
