Summer Weight
は夏掛け毛布です、夏掛けはニューイングランド地方では良く使われいる毛布です。この夏掛け軽量毛布は夏 期の就寝時に熱気を体の皮膚などから取り去る性質がありますその上明け方の冷え込み時には逆に冷気を遮断し快適にしてくれます。

す、この島には何代もの間人の手を掛けず放し飼いにされた羊が生息しております。この島独特の血統を持つ羊毛は地元の職人の手で紡織 されて冬物の毛布に織り上げられます。この毛布は冬物仕立で二重になっております、染色は全て天然有機染料の手染めです。
Rare Wool Summer Blankets
このレアーサマーウールブランケットは天然自然に発生した茶（くり）毛と黒毛のだけの 羊の毛を使い紡織された製品です。この羊は極まれに生れ2－3年後には毛色がグレーに変色してしまうので毎年極僅かな茶色、又は黒色の 毛布しか織ル湖ｔができないのです。
Equinox Blankets
昼夜の長さが完璧に一致する事象は地球上に春分と秋分として存在します。このエクイノックス（）毛布は 夏掛け用の薄手の織り仕上げですが厚手二重織りの冬物と同じ防寒効果が特徴です。

Swans Island Blankets are hand-dyed and hand-woven by our small group of craftspeople in our studio in Northport, Maine. Each blanket is created to the highest standards: we use only the cleanest, softest fleece, hand-dye the yarn with all natural materials, and then weave the blanket by hand. We finish the edges with silk threads, and closely inspect the blanket for flaws before shipping them in custom designed linen storage bags, with slats of protective aromatic cedar. Summer Weight Once common in New England, lightweight summer blankets keep you cool on hot summer nights by drawing warm air away from the skin. Then, as the night grows cooler, your wool blanket blocks the outside chill, and keeps the warmth of the day in.
Winter Wool On Nash Island, down east of Penobscot Bay, a flock of sheep lives untended as it has for generations. This
local breed provides fleeces to the spinners and weavers of coastal Maine who make our Winter Blankets. This blanket uses a winter weave-two layers of wool for warmth-and is dyed by hand using all natural materials.

Swans Island Rare Wool blankets are made from naturally occurring brown and black sheep. These sheep aren’t common, and after three or four years, their fleeces tend to go grey, so we are only able to weave a limited number of rare brown and black wool blankets each year.
Equinox Blankets
The celestial equinox happens when the balance of the day and night are equal to each other everywhere on earth. Equinox blankets balance a winter weave with summer-weight rare wool to keep out the winter cold.

The Spinnery Once sheared, all Swans Island wool goes to the Green Mountain Spinnery, in Vermont, where it is custom spun, and only biodegradable soaps and oils are used in the scouring and spinning processes. While most spinneries don’t always spin the same wool you give them, the dozen or so talented craftspeople at Green Mountain Spinnery guarantee that the wool we give them will be the same wool they spin for us.

Color 染色
The products of Swans Island are created by combining dyes made from organic materials. 当スワンでは独自で開発したコーミング行程での有機染料により染色されます。
Osage orange オーガニックオレンジ染料
During the 1840’s, middle western farmers began to hear of a small thorny tree, native to the Arkansas River region, which could be grown in dense hedges to help contain their livestock. The large wrinkled green fruits from these trees are heavy and hard, and commonly known as “hedge apples” They are not edible. Because the Osage Indians were common in that region, the tree became known as the Osage Orange. Swans Island yellows come from the shavings of this tree. １８４０年間に中西部の開拓者達がアーカンソー河流域に住む OSage（オサギ）族と呼ばれるアメリカインデアン原住民より灌木ソーンツリー（とげの木） 事を聞き込んでいました、この灌木は高密度で繁茂するので家畜を囲う柵によく使われていましたがこの灌木から取れるやや大形で重く固い実は”ヘッジアッ プル”といわれ喰えない木の実として知られておりました。このトゲトゲの灌木（実）から OSage（オサギ）インディアンが顔料（オレンジ）に使っていま したので OSage（オサギ）オレンジと呼ばれております。スワンの黄色はこの灌木（実）を削ぎ切りしたものから作られます。
Cochineal (コチニール：コチニール、カイガラムシの雌から採る赤色色素)
Swan’s Island reds and pinks come from the crushed bodies of dried insects. The red coloring they produce is a defense mechanism designed to ward off predators. Cochineal bugs can be found on prickly pear cacti, in the southern US as well as Peru, Mexico, Canary Islands and Australia. スワンでは赤とピンク系の色をこの昆虫を潰したものから生成しています。この虫は赤色を体に発色させ護身用として敵を威嚇する為に使います。この昆虫 はトゲトゲした二匹のつがいとしてペルー、メキシコ、カナリー諸島、オーストライで見つかります。
Indigo （インディゴ／マメ科コマツナギ属）
The Indigo herb has been the source of Indigo Blue for thousands of years. The dye, called Indican, is produced as the leaves of the plant are fermented, exuding a rich paste which turns blue when exposed to air. This paste is processed into cakes and then finely ground into the powder used to make the dye. As well as producing a rich, deep blue, wild Indigo is said to help stimulate the immune system, and act as a mild antiseptic. はブルーの顔料として数千年の歴史を持って います。染料はインディカと呼ばれこの植物の葉を酵素で醗酵させ濃いペースと状の原料を空気中に抽出させると青色に変色します。このペースト状の葉を ケーキ状に固め粉砕し粉にしたものが染料として使われます。濃く深い青色を出す事ができまる野生のインディゴは抗体を活性化を促したり弱殺菌（抗菌） 剤としてもよく知られています。
Weaving by Hand
We weave our wool into blankets on air-assisted shuttle looms, which produce a traditional, natural weave. Unlike mass produced textiles, a hand woven blanket shows the hands of the craftspeople who made it. From the tightness of the weave, to subtle changes in color, to the silk threads woven directly into the blanket during finishing, each blanket stands apart from any other. 手織りについて、スワンでの織布行程ではエアーシャットル（空力杼）方式で毛布を織っています。この方式のシャットルを使う事により伝 統を生かした自然感のある毛布を織る事ができます。手織りですからそれぞれの織子さんの特徴がだせます。織味、染め味、絹糸による仕上 げ、個々の毛布はそれぞれ風合いと持ち味の異なる独特の製品を仕上げることができます。
Yarns Swans Island Yarns are a certified organic merino yarn that is naturally dyed. The yarns are spun in Maine. They are mordented
with non-metallic mordents, and then skein dyed with natural substances such as Indigo, cochineal, madder, weld, and other plant dyes. All of the coloring is done in small batches in our dye house on the coast of Maine. They are color fast and look like they come out of the natural world. スワンアイランドの手芸糸、手編み用毛糸はメリノウール有機素材、有機染料染め製品としてアメリカ政府の公的機関から認定されてい
ます。米国東岸北東部、ニューイングランド地方、メーン州にある工場で 紡績されたおります、製品は非金属製のモデント（Modent/草木染め）が 使われています。染色はすべて天然染料、インディゴ、コチニール、マダー（西洋アカネ）、ウエルドなど植物染料を使用しております。染色はす べてメーン州の海岸沿いの自工場の染色釜で染色されてその仕上がりは今すぐ大自然の中から生まれてきた通りの色の染め上りです。
We offer the yarns in 100 gram skeins. There is a choice of fingering weight at 580 yards, or worsted weight at 250 yards. We have white and a grey blend of 85% merino and 15% natural brown/black alpaca. The remaining colors are: red, pink, orange, yellow, spring green, teal, indigo, robins egg blue, purple and brown. 手芸用毛糸は１００グラム巻です。糸の目付 けにより５８０ヤード（約５２０m）とウーステッド（梳毛）カウント（目付け）２５０ヤード（ 約２２５m）の２種類が有ります。白とグレーの糸は８５％メリノとアルパカ（茶と黒、天然の毛 色）１５％の混紡です。他に赤、ピンク、オレンジ、黄色、若草色、ティール、インディゴ、青 （ロビン鳥の卵色）、紫、茶色が有ります
Swans Island has been hand weaving and naturally dying blankets and throws for 15 years. They are color fast and their vibrancy reflects the beauty of the natural world. スワンアイラ ンド社では１５年以上毛布や膝掛け毛布を天然染料を使い染色し織り上げております。当社の染 色処理は自然界の特性を捉えた独特の染色法で天然自然の色をいつ層際立った目の覚めるような 色に仕上げるのが特徴です。
Our production possibility varies from season to season. If we were to get an order late this year or very early next year, then we could produce 100 units per month through the end of April for a total of 400 throws. During that same period we could produce 50 single size blankets per month for a total of 200 units. Once we get in to May and through the end of the year we are producing for our retail customers and could fill much smaller orders. We are planning an expansion to our weaving studio and dye house that would increase capacity and could open up more possibilities year round, but that is still a year away. 製造行程の特性、季節季節により変化致します。例えば年の終わり頃、あるいは翌年早々にご注文をいただけたと仮定すると、月産１０

Requested Product Details All of our products are woven on hand looms. Every weft is carefully laid down and beaten by a weaver.The merino throws are certified organic from farm to yarn by Oregon Tilth, an internationally recognized certifying agency. We use a 3/14 for the fill which is a 1,700 on the Denier scale. We weave 24 ends per inch. We weave in silk to bind the beginning an end of each product. Our logo results from a special over weave and graphically distinguishes our throws and blankets as hand woven and from Swans Island. オーダー（特別注文）品について：当社の全製品は手紡ぎ、

Each color is the result of different natural substances. We dye in the skein in small dye lots. Our mordent is potassium alum and cream of tartar. The throws and blankets are cut off of the loom and the silk is hemmed over. They are washed in organic soap and air dried. The packaging is either a linen pouch which we stitch, or a linen covered box. A book comes with every product. 染色はすべて天然染料のみを使用して行われます。枷取りした原糸を少量に
