STORY: ‘Best version of ourselves’

came off.

The Jackrabbits pounded the Aggies on the ground for 446 yards, with the 1-2 punch of Isaiah Davis (15 carries for 217 yards) and Pierre Strong (19 carries for 185 yards) proving to be unstoppable.

Strong is gone. Davis is back.

As coaches do, both Stiegelmeier and Hawkins discounted last year’s result having any bearing on Saturday’s outcome.

“We hope to write a better story this time,” Hawkins offered.

“We were in it last year and then the game kind of got away from us. We just have to go in and be the best version of ourselves and not worry about the opponent.”

A whopping six interceptions — two of the pick-six variety — destroyed Aggie hopes last November against the Jacks.

Noted Stiegelmeier, “We’re excited to be at home and we’re excited to play Davis. They’re a very good football team and will be a real challenge for our program. They’re going to have a chip on their shoulder based on last year and we’ll have a chip on our shoulder with something to prove after the Iowa game, especially on offense.”

The Aggies finally return home Saturday, Sept. 17 for a 7 p.m. nonconference game with Univ. of San Diego. — Contact Bob Dunning at bdunning@ davisenterprise.net.
