Internship Opportunities: Sociology majors have the opportunity to recieve hands-on experience in a variety of family science and criminal justice internship programs to enhance their theoretical knowledge and applicable skills.

Expert Faculty: The sociology faculty in the Department of Social Sciences are active in research that includes issues such as inequality, crime, family, marriage, gender relations, domestic terrorism, riots, natural disasters, population change, education, health and international relationships. Students working with these faculty members as co-authors in various research projects present their papers in regional, national and international professional conferences.

Excellence With a Personal Touch: Offering courses online, on campus and in hybrid format, faculty are available on campus, by phone, and online to ensure academic advising is readily available, questions are answered promptly and concerns are addressed. This approach allows many students to develop long-term content mastery, including critical thinking, metacognition, problem-solving and interpersonal and professional skills.

As a sociology major, you?ll have the flexibility to pursue your degree in a format and at a pace that best fits your lifestyle. Offered both 100% online and in person, McNeese?s sociology students can study on campus, from home or a combination of the two, which makes this degree a great fit for individuals with part-time or full-time jobs, childcare roles or other responsibilities. Online courses are also offered in seven-week sessions during the fall and spring semesters and a six-week session in the summer, allowing you to achieve your degree even faster.

Sociology Degree Concentrations

Family Science With a concentration in family science, students learn how to help families from a variety of backgrounds to navigate common issues they may face, ranging from resolving interpersonal conflicts to managing life transitions. After graduation, McNeese's family science graduates are eligible for professional certification as Certified Family Life Educators from the National Council on Family Relations.
