• McNeese has won 198 all-time games in Southland Conference play, more than any other league team past or present. • After being flagged for 12 penalties for 110 yards in the opener against West Florida, the Cowboys have been flagged a total of 14 times for 109 yards over the last three games, an average of 4.7 penalties for 36.3 yards during that span. • McNeese ranks No. 2 in the SLC and 30th in the FCS in kickoff returns with an average of 23.9 yards per return. • Mason Pierce’s 100-yard return to start the game at Southern was the first ever for McNeese to open the game with an KOR for a TD. • He’s also only the second player in school history to return a kickoff for 100 yards (Chris Fontenette in 1992). • Pierce is ranked No. 1 in the SLC and No. 8 in the nation with a 31.3 KO yards per return. • Two true freshmen offensive linemen made their first collegiate starts over the last two games - center Dylan Dauzart at Southern and most recently, left tackle Cam Foster at UIW. • LB Kordell Williams is 3rd in the SLC and 47th nationally with 8.3 tackles per game. • McNeese head coach Frank Wilson and SLU head coach Frank Scelfo have a long, friendly history between the two. • The two roomed together at the Manning Passing Academy when it was first getting started in the 90s and held at Tulane. • When Wilson was hired as the head coach at UTSA before the 2016 season, he hired Scelfo as his offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Scelfo left after 2017 season to become the head coach at SLU.
WELCOME TO “THE HOLE”
• This fall will mark the 57th season of McNeese football being played in Cowboy Stadium, aka, the Hole. • The unique setting was constructed in the early 1960s with a target date to open up in 1964, however, work issues backed the date up to Sept. 18, 1965, where the Cowboys

dropped a 16-12 game to Tampa in the stadium’s first-ever game. • The Hole, which is nestled 12 feet below normal ground level, was created by over 80,000 cubic yards of soil being removed. • Original capacity was 12,000 and expanded in 1975 to increase capacity to 17,410. Seating along the hills allow capacity to be as much as 20,000. • In 2008 the natural grass field was replaced by an artificial turf which was named Louis Bonnette Field in honor of McNeese’s longtime SID who retired in 2012 after a 46-year career. • The turf was replaced in 2018 and then again in 2020 following damage caused by Hurricane Laura and Delta. • McNeese is 216-95-5 all-time in Cowboy Stadium and 103-44-3 in home Southland Conference games.

CHAMBERS ALSO NAMED TO REESE’S SENIOR BOWL WATCH LIST
• McNeese All-American defensive end Isaiah Chambers has been named to the 2022 Reese’s Senior Bowl Watch List. • The Reese’s Senior Bowl is the nation’s most prestigious college all-star game, as it annually serves as the first step of the NFL draft process. The Reese’s Senior Bowl has had 106 total players and 36 selected in the first three rounds of the 2021 NFL Draft. • This year’s game will be held February 5, 2022 and broadcast live on NFL Network. • Chambers is one of just three players from the Southland Conference to be listed to the watch list and 37 players from non-FBS squads (29 FCS, 8 non-D1). Other Southland players named to the list include Nicholls wide receiver Dai’Jean Dixon and Southeastern quarterback Cole Kelley. • McNeese has sent three players to the Senior Bowl in school history – defensive back Keith Smith (2003), defensive end Kavika Pittman (1995), and offensive lineman Jim Files (1976). All three were selected in the NFL Draft – Pittman and Files in the second round and Smith in the third.

• A season after leading Tulane in rushing and garnering 2nd team All-AAC honors as a running back, transfer Stephon Huderson is making himself known early in

Southland Conference play and will head into Saturday’s game ranking 2nd in the league with 72.0 yards rushing per game. • Huderson recorded his first 100-yard game as a Cowboy against Southern, running for 111 yards on 23 carries. • It was the 4th 100-yard game of his career.
YOUNG AND TALENTED
• True freshman defensive lineman Leon Young is more than just a talented football player for the Cowboys, the product of Cedar Hills High School was a First Chair recipient in the brass section of the Longhorn Red Army Band. • Young struck a tune at LSU by making his first collegiate sack.
FROM TENNIS STAR TO STELLAR QB
• McNeese third-year starting quarterback Cody Orgeron didn’t alway have a calling to play football, in fact, the Mandeville native didn’t start playing until his senior year of high school where he was a state champion in tennis at Mandeville HS before he started slinging the pigskin to his twin brother, Parker, their senior season. • Cody walked on to McNeese in 2016 and was the team’s 6th-string QB that season. • He made his first start on Oct. 27, 2018 against 13th-ranked Central Arkansas and led the Cowboys to a 23-21 win. • Since then, Orgeron has become one of the top QBs in school history, ranking tied for 5th all-time in passing TDs (39), 7th in passing yards (5,090), 7th in pass completions (441), and 8th in pass attempts (753). • His five career 300-yard passing games is ranked 2nd all-time and needs one more to match the record of six held by James Tabary (2016-18). • He holds the single season record with 506 plays, that coming in 2019. • Single game record holder with 403 total offensive yards against Central Arkansas on Oct. 12, 2019 (344 passing, 59 rushing).

• Since being named head coach in December 2019, Frank Wilson’s Cowboys have posted a 3.0 GPA or higher in four consecutive semesters. • Nine Cowboys on the roster have already received their degrees - Isaiah Chambers, Cody Orgeron, Stephon Huderson, Jamal Pettigrew, CeeJay Powell, Demond Stewart, Jarrius Wallace, Kordell Williams and Walker Wood. 5

Janie Doucet Frugé is CEO at West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital in Sulphur. Frugé is a leader with more than 30 years of nursing/clinical experience and over 25 years of hospital management experience. As CEO, she is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the organization, with the primary objective to ensure the hospital delivers exceptional healthcare service to the residents of western Calcasieu and Cameron parishes. Frugé received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from McNeese and a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Phoenix. She also holds the Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives distinction. B.J. Hebert is president and chief operating officer of Chevron Phillips Chemical headquartered in The Woodlands, Texas. Hebert - a proven leader with more than 30 years of industry experience - holds strategic responsibility for Chevron Phillips Chemical’s commercial business lines, manufacturing and sustainability programs. Prior to joining the company, he was president of Occidental Chemical. Hebert received his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from McNeese and his Master of Business Administration from Southern Methodist University. Willie Landry Mount is a successful Lake Charles business owner, outstanding civic leader and a distinguished mayor and state senator. A licensed real estate agent and a former small business owner, Mount was elected as the first female mayor of Lake Charles (1993-1999) and then was elected to the Louisiana Senate (2000-2002) as the first female senator from District 27, where she held a variety of leadership roles. Mount received her Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from McNeese. She serves on the McNeese Foundation Board of Directors, is a recipient of the McNeese Distinguished Service Award, has been inducted into the McNeese College of Business Hall of Fame and was awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from McNeese in 2016.

McNEESE PRESIDENT
Dr. Daryl Burckel
Dr. Daryl V. Burckel is the seventh president of McNeese State University. Dr. Burckel earned both his bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1980 and his Master of Business Administration in 1982 from McNeese and then earned his Doctor of Business Administration in accounting from Mississippi State University. He attended McNeese on a football scholarship where he was starting middle linebacker for the Cowboys on two Southland Conference championship teams that played in the Independence Bowl. He was awarded one of four national NCAA-Postgraduate Scholarships that he used to earn his MBA and he is a member of the McNeese Hall of Fame. He held faculty positions at the University of New Orleans and Mississippi State University before joining the McNeese faculty in 1992. He holds the rank of professor of accounting and still makes time to teach an accounting class. Dr. Burckel is also a certified public accountant and a certified valuation analyst and his areas of expertise include financial analysis, business valuation of closely-held business interests, and taxation. He has performed extensive consulting work for local and state governmental agencies, small businesses and companies. He has served as president and director of the Lake Charles Harbor and Terminal District Board and chairman of the board of directors for CHRISTUS St. Patrick Hospital. He also served on the board of directors for the Louisiana Housing Corporation and the Louisiana Land Trust. He currently serves on the board of directors for JD Bank and Council for a Better Louisiana. As a standout linebacker for the Cowboys from 1977-80, Dr. Burckel played a pivotal role in guiding the Cowboys to the 1979 and 1980 Southland Conference championships as well as invitations to the Independence Bowls both seasons. The New Orleans native led the Cowboys with 104 tackles in 1980 as the team posted a 10-2 overall record, including a 16-14 loss to Southern Mississippi in the Indy Bowl. He garnered 81 stops in 1979, second-most on the team, as the Pokes ended the regular season with a perfect 11-0 mark before falling to an Art Monk-led Syracuse team, 31-7, in the bowl game. In his career, Dr. Burckel recorded 214 total tackles, 14 sacks, and intercepted four passes. His sack total currently ranks him tied for 12th on the school’s career record list. Because of his stellar career, Dr. Burckel earned All-Southland Conference honors in 1979 (second team) and 1980 (first team). He was named the Southland Conference’s Defensive Player of the Year in 1980 as well as the McNeese Defensive Player of the Year in addition to being named team captain. In 2013, Dr. Burckel was named to the Southland Conference 1980s All-Decade Team to help commemorate the league’s 50th Anniversary, and in August of 2018, was named to the McNeese Football 75th Anniversary All-Time Linebacker team. Heath Schroyer
Heath Schroyer, who served as McNeese men’s basketball coach for three seasons, was named Director of Athletics in June 2020 and has transformed the Department of Athletics into a new model of excellence in a short amount of time. In his short time since being named athletics director, Schroyer has implemented a mission statement that focuses on Community, Tradition and Excellence - the three pillars of McNeese Athletics, and has made the well-being of the McNeese student-athletes the top priority. Schroyer earned his bachelor’s degree in liberal studies from Armstrong Atlantic State in 1995 and master’s degree in institutional leadership from National University in Fresno, Calif. in 1996.
STUDENT-ATHLETE SUCCESS This past academic year, a total of 223 student-athletes were named to the Southland Conference Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll which requires a minimum GPA of 3.0. Of those 223, 51 student-athletes recorded a perfect 4.0 GPA. McNeese was awarded the 2020-21 Southland Strong Community Service Award for the exceptional community service and tireless hours with assisting in cleanup following the devastating Hurricane Laura and Hurricane Delta. McNeese student-athletes, staff and coaches stepped in to begin finding ways to clean, repair and help in away way possible, whether it was helping tarp roofs, cut trees, pick up debris, clean out houses and businesses, and collect and distribute supplies and serve food. Baseball player Julian Gonzalez and track athlete Grace McKenzie where awarded the league’s prestigious McCarty Citizenship Award for their work in the classroom and community. Schroyer inherited a football program that was on APR probation and a struck with a postseason ban. In just four semesters, the Cowboys became postseason eligible and posted the highest team GPA in seven years. HIRING COACHES Schroyer has hired new head coaches in both men’s and women’s basketball. After stepping away from the basketball court following the 2020-21 season, Schroyer promoted top assistant John Aiken as his successor. Aiken is the 11th head coach in Cowboys basketball history, has 13 years as a Division I coach and 19 years overall. It’s his first head coaching job at the NCAA’s highest level. In late March, Schroyer announced Lynn Kennedy as the Cowgirls new head coach. Kennedy comes from Portland State and has won over 340 games in his career, ranked as high as No. 8 in the ESPN Mid-Major Top 25 poll, coached 20 Big Sky Conference All-Academic selections, set a school record with 25 wins in teh 2018-19 season while winning the regular season and conference tournament, qualified for the league tournament the previous four years including semifinal appearances in 2016-17 and 2017-18 while winning it in 2018-10, and has coached nine all-conference selections and five players who earned the league’s top awards. Schroyer also extended the contracts of softball head coach James Landreneau and baseball head coach Justin Hill. Both coaches guided their teams to the SLC tournament championship and NCAA Tournaments in 2021. ENHANCED FACILITIES The McNeese H&HP Complex, now the Legacy Center, was in its final stages of completion when Schroyer arrived at McNeese and Schroyer played a major part in assembling the pieces to create the finest basketball arena not only in the Southland Conference, but also in the region. His efforts were instrumental in obtaining funds for new turf field for football, baseball and softball as well as a renovation to the Cowgirl Softball Complex. He and his staff secured $3 million for new turf for football, baseball and softball and is in the process of rebuilding canopies and seating for both baseball and softball stadiums. He’s also in the process of overseeing the new football press box that is expected to be completed for the fall of 2023. REVENUE GENERATION The Covid-19 pandemic along with Hurricane Laura and Delta, an ice storm and historic flooding in 2020-21, all provided a bump in the road for generating revenue, but that bump was flattened immediately by Schroyer’s work which helped secure the department’s largest-ever gift for naming rights to an athletic facility - $2.5 million by David and Kimberly Griffin to rename the H&HP Complex, the Legacy Center. 8

Schroyer also started up the Platinum Club for men’s basketball which generates $175 thousand a year for basketball enhancement, and this fall, has implemented The Champions Club for football which will generate $175 thousand a year for football enhancement. He’s and his staff sold over $1 million in corporate sponsorships in less than a year on the job, a school record by nearly $500 thousand, after acquiring the rights from Learfield IMG. He oversaw the signing of a partnership with Ochsner Christus to fund the athletic training department and fulltime athletic trainers, a net profit of $700 thousand for the department. ENGAGING FANS AND THE COMMUNITY After a 10-year absence, McNeese athletics re-started the Cowboy Caravan in late July - a four-stop tour in the five parish area where fans could meet and engage with football coach Frank Wilson, men’s basketball coach John Aiken and women’s head coach Lynn Kennedy, as well as McNeese President Dr. Daryl Burckel, Vice President Wade Rousse, AD Heath Schroyer and other McNeese athletic and university staff and coaches. On July 4 weekend, the very first Cowboy Country Fest concert series was launched over a two-day span that featured local, regional and national music artists, and coming on Friday nights this fall before Saturday home games, Friday night block parties will take place at the McNeese Alumni Pavilion that will feature concerts, food and drinks for all fans. Over the past year, McNeese student-athletes, coaches and staff provided over thousands of community service hours which helped the school be awarded the Southland Strong Community Service Award. ON THE FIELD Since Schroyer took over as AD, McNeese’s baseball and softball teams each won their respective Southland Conference Tournament championships and participated in the NCAA Tournament. Football ranked No. 2 in the Southland Conference in attendance with its spring season and men’s basketball ranked second in the league in attendance despite having to play its games at Burton Coliseum due to the damage caused by Hurricane Laura to the Legacy Center. SCHROYER’S STORY Was a college coach for 26 years with 24 of those at the NCAA Division I level. He was the head coach for 12 years at four different universities and was the second-youngest head coach in the nation when he was named the Portland State head coach. Schroyer has seen four of his former assistants become D1 head coaches and he coached over 100 players that have signed professional contracts. He was named the Big Sky Coach of the Year in 2005, the Tennessee Sportswriters Coach of the Year in 2014 and 2015, and was a finalist for the NCAA Mid-Major Coach of the Year. Schroyer was an assistant coach at major universities such as BYU, Wyoming, North Carolina State and UNLV. While at UNLV, he signed four McDonald’s All-American player in three years and the first All-American at UNLV since the Jerry Tarkanian era. He was named one of the nation’s top 15 assistant coaches in two of the three years while at UNLV. Schroyer is a first generation college graduate who grew up on a Dairy Farm in Maryland. He prepped at the prestigious DeMatha High School program in Hyattsville, Md., where he played for the legendary coach Morgan Wootten, whose 1,274 wins as a head coach are the second-most victories in the history of basketball at any level. HEAD COACH FRANK WILSON
SECOND SEASON AT McNEESE (4-7), 6TH SEASON OVERALL (23-36) Frank Wilson became McNeese’s 17th head coach in program history back in January of 2020 as the first African-American head football coach in school history and the second in the history of the Southland Conference. The New Orleans native, who is widely considered one of the top recruiters in college football, spent four seasons as the head coach at UTSA before arriving on the McNeese campus. Wilson, arguably, had his most difficult season of coaching in 2020-21 after McNeese and Southwest Louisiana took a direct hit from Hurricane Laura, a Category 4 storm with sustained winds of over 150 mph, then six weeks later, was hit with Category 2 storm Hurricane Delta. games. The Tigers also recorded 45 100-yard individual rushing performances and four 1,000-yard individual rushers. Wilson joined the LSU staff after spending the 2009 season at Tennessee, where he coached the wide receivers under Lane Kiffin. Prior to joining the Tennessee staff, Wilson spent the 2008 season as the running backs coach/recruiting coordinator at Southern Miss under Larry Fedora. From 2005-07, Wilson served as the running backs/assistant special teams coach at Mississippi, where he recruited prominent future NFL stars Kendrick Lewis and Mike Wallace. He also developed a first-team all-conference running back in Green-Ellis. Wilson joined the Rebels’ staff after serving one year as director of athletics for the New Orleans Public School System after spending three-and-a-half seasons as head football coach and offensive coordinator at O. Perry Walker High School. Wilson led O. Perry Walker to two District 10-4A championships and the Louisiana Class 4A State Championship game in 2002. He was honored by the NFL as the 2002 Louisiana Coach of the Year and was voted by his peers as the Louisiana Class 4A Coach of the Year. Wilson also was a finalist for the 2002 Nike National Coach of the Year. During his head coaching stint at O. Perry Walker, Wilson developed 22 players who earned Division I scholarships, including 11 in 2002 to rank as the nation’s largest high school class of D-I signees. The 2002 team defeated national-power John Curtis Christian School, 20-0, during the regular season, which snapped a 136-game district winning streak for John Curtis and marked the first time that team had failed to score in 303 consecutive games, a national record. Wilson spent three years as an assistant coach at Edna Karr High School, also in New Orleans, from 1997-2000. He served as offensive coordinator at Edna Karr during the 1999 season in which the team reached the Class 3A state finals and recorded its best statistical season on offense in the program’s history. Wilson got his start in coaching as a student assistant at his alma mater, Nicholls State University, working with the running backs while he finished his degree. While in Thibodaux, Wilson helped coach the first 1,000-yard rusher in school history and was part of the biggest turnaround in NCAA history at the time for the Colonels, who improved from 0-10 in 1995 to 8-2 in 1996. A three-year letterman at Nicholls, Wilson earned honorable mention all-conference honors as a running back his sophomore year. Wilson attended Geneva University in Beaver Falls, Pa., his freshman season, earning conference Freshman of the Year honors as a running back and kick returner. He also earned first team all-conference honors and was an honorable mention NAIA Division II All-American. Wilson received his bachelor of arts degree in general education from Nicholls State in 1997. Wilson and his wife, Tiffany, have three children: Alaina, Sabree and Frank IV, who is a redshirt freshman defensive back for the Cowboys this fall.
