SATURDAY, APRIL 6, 2024 // DENILIQUIN
WITH THE LOVE OF HIS LIFE WORKING AT DENILIQUIN’S ONLY JEWELLERY STORE, CALLUM DONALD HAD TO THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX WHEN HE DECIDED HE WANTED TO PROPOSE TO KAYLA TROTTER.
Callum met with Deniliquin Jewellers director Kate Smith in secret to select the right ring for his bride-to-be.
The pair managed to keep the surprise from Kayla, but the suspense was then just too much for Callum.
“He had planned to propose around Christmas, as it’s my favourite time of the year, but three hours after picking up the ring
in the October he told me he couldn't bear to wait any more,” Kayla said.
“He proposed in our lounge room while I was on the couch in my PJs, and it was perfect.”
Kayla and Callum were eventually married on April 6, 2024. The ceremony and reception was held at the Trotters’ Deniliquin home, and photos were also taken on the Donald family property.
Kayla was attended by maid of honour Maddison Trotter and bridesmaids Megan Marchant and Temeka Macdonald.
Callum’s best man was David Donald, and groomsmen were Carter Tonkin and Ben Liphuyzen.
The pair honeymooned in Europe in December 2024, and now settle into married life in Deniliquin.

SAY ‘I DO’ IN A MAGICAL SETTING
YOUR LOVE STORY DESERVES AN ENCHANTING BACKDROP, AND WARBRECCAN STABLES SPECIALISES IN CRAFTING DREAM WEDDINGS THAT RESONATE WITH YOUR UNIQUE JOURNEY.
Nestled amidst the tranquil beauty of the Edward River, the venue is a canvas for unforgettable celebrations.
From the first step onto the picturesque grounds, you'll feel the magic that sets the stage for a wedding day like no other.
Warbreccan is named after an Aboriginal phrase that beautifully translates to "the land of big trees" - which perfectly describes the backdrop a celebration at Warbreccan Stables enjoys.
The historic Warbreccan homestead was built between 1918 and 1922 and exudes charm and elegance, providing the perfect setting for any type of celebration.
Alongside it is the newly transformed Warbeccan Stables venue.
Built in 2019, it features at least 80 per cent of the materials from the original stables, as well as timbers from the old water stands that once stood on the riverbank of the property.
The beautiful rustic timber tables are made from the original lining boards, while raw red gum timbers line the back wall.
The grand fireplace, originally part of the old flooring, draws the eye down the centre of the building.
Looking up, you'll see the old, discoloured corrugated iron that once roofed the stables, now blending perfectly with the raw red gum to create a cathedral-like ambience.
The timber beams from the old water stands create a rustic grand entrance, complemented by the charming red gum
double barn doors that open to bring the outdoors in.
Whether you prefer an indoor or outdoor affair, Warbreccan Stables offers endless possibilities to bring your wedding vision to life.
With the all-inclusive ceremony and reception package you can say 'I do' in a breathtaking setting, then seamlessly transition to the Warbreccan Stables for an unforgettable reception.
It has seating for up to 110 guests in a formal setting, or 200 guests for a cocktailstyle affair.
You can enjoy exclusive access to the venue the day before and after your event,
complete with licensed bar facilities and a fully equipped caterer's kitchen to bring your culinary vision to life.
For couples seeking an intimate exchange of vows surrounded by natural beauty, the ceremony only package is the ideal choice. Choose from picturesque settings overlooking the Edward River or amidst the historic grounds of Warbreccan Station.
The package includes everything you need for a beautiful ceremony, from elegant white folding chairs to a signing table with bridal chairs.
You are also allowed access to the grounds for stunning bridal photos to cherish for a lifetime.

BUDGET BREAKDOWN:
PLANNING A WEDDING IS AN EXCITING JOURNEY, BUT MANAGING THE BUDGET CAN FEEL OVERWHELMING. STRIKING THE PERFECT BALANCE BETWEEN INDULGENCE AND PRACTICALITY IS KEY.
Here’s a breakdown of where to splurge and where to save to create your dream Deniliquin wedding without breaking the bank.
WHERE TO SPLURGE
PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEOGRAPHY
Your wedding day will pass in the blink of an eye, but your photos and videos will last a lifetime. Investing in a talented photographer and videographer ensures you capture every precious moment in the best quality possible.
VENUE & CATERING
A stunning venue sets the tone for your big day, and delicious food leaves a lasting impression on your guests. Whether it’s a rustic barn, a riverside setting, or a garden, allocate a good portion of your budget to a venue that aligns with your vision. Catering is equally important—well-prepared, highquality meals enhance the overall experience.
ENTERTAINMENT
A great band or DJ can transform your reception into an unforgettable celebration.
Live music or a well-curated playlist keeps the energy high and the dance floor packed. An experienced performer ensures everyone enjoys the festivities.
BRIDAL ATTIRE
Your wedding dress is a once-in-a-lifetime outfit, so it’s worth splurging on something that makes you feel incredible. Proper tailoring ensures the perfect fit for your big day.
WHERE TO SAVE
INVITATIONS & STATIONERY
Printed invitations can be pricey, but elegant digital alternatives save money and are environmentally friendly. If you prefer printed invites, consider DIY options or simpler designs.
DÉCOR & FLOWERS
Lush floral arrangements are beautiful but costly. Opt for seasonal, locally sourced flowers or mix fresh blooms with artificial ones. Reuse ceremony arrangements for the reception, and consider DIY centrepieces.
WEDDING CAKE
A multi-tiered, extravagant cake can be expensive. Consider a smaller display cake and serve sheet cake to guests. Alternatively, a dessert table with a variety of sweet treats can be appealing.
FAVOURS
Guest favours are a nice touch, but they aren’t essential. Consider practical or edible options like homemade jam, local honey, or personalized cookies—affordable and appreciated.
WEDDING DRESS
You can always save money by buying a second-hand wedding dress. Many brides sell their gowns in excellent condition after one wear, allowing you to find a stunning dress at a fraction of the cost.
By prioritizing key elements and making smart savings elsewhere, you can have the wedding of your dreams while staying within budget. Deniliquin offers stunning venues, talented vendors, and plenty of ways to create a magical day without financial stress. Happy planning!

MATTHEW HILL AND KYLA SALAN HAD BEEN IN A RELATIONSHIP FOR 10 YEARS WHEN THEY FINALLY DECIDED TO GET MARRIED IN 2024.
They initially got engaged in 2018, but then they started a family and the official celebrations were put on hold as they settled into their new life as parents.
Unfortunately, it was a sad family moment that encouraged the couple to finally make the jump from engaged to married.
Their third child unexpectedly passed away one day after birth in 2022.
“After Lacey passed I felt it was time to get married, so we started planning for 2024,” Kyla said.
“In honour of our precious baby girl Lacey we released butterflies during the ceremony with our other children Bentley and Aria.
“There were so many tears but the day was magical - there’s no other words for it.
“A lot of people told us some of the butterflies landed on the flowers on the arbour above me while we were saying our vows. It was such a super special moment.”
Kyla and Matthew chose the grand Perricoota Station for their wedding and
reception, and the bride steered away from tradition slightly with a colourful gown.
The elegant-style cream dress was covered in light blue and pink flowers.
Kyla’s bridesmaids were Jesse Sutton, Daisy Holden and Gaby Hill, and Matthew’s groomsmen were Scott and Brett Hill, and Angus Hardy.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT METAL
A KEY FACTOR WHEN CHOOSING A WEDDING BAND IS THE METAL IT'S MADE FROM. FOR THE BRIDE, IT IS NORMALLY DETERMINED BY WHAT METAL HER ENGAGEMENT RING IS.
Kate Smith from Deniliquin Jewellers offers the following advice on some of the most popular choices.
GOLD
Prized since prehistoric times, gold is a reliable choice as it doesn't rust, tarnish or corrode. It also mixes well with other metals. Wedding bands come in 9, 10, 14, 18 and 22 carat gold, which can be yellow, white or rose-coloured, depending on your personal tastes. Pure gold is 24ct, but it's too soft to be worn as jewellery. An ideal choice for wedding bands is 18ct, which is 75 percent pure gold and has a richer hue than 9ct (which is just 37.5 percent pure gold). It also tends to retain its good looks better as it ages. One thing to keep in mind is that to keep your white gold wedding band looking beautiful, you'll need to have it periodically plated with rhodium.
Rhodium, part of the platinum precious metal group, is used to plate white gold because it is dazzlingly white and mirrorlike, whereas white gold can be slightly grey in tone. Rhodium is shiny and cool, almost like chrome, but even whiter. It also acts as a protective coating for your ring, enhancing its life span.
PLATINUM AND PALLADIUM
Two popular choices for wedding bands are platinum and palladium, which don't require rhodium plating. Their natural brilliance makes them the perfect choice for jewellery that pretty much lasts forever. Recently, palladium has become a popular alternative
to platinum because of its similar colour but with a more budget-friendly price tag.
TITANIUM
Titanium rings have some unique properties; they're hypoallergenic, lightweight, corrosion-resistant and strong enough to keep their shape, even when knocked about. For this reason they're a great choice for those with active lifestyles who don't want to worry about wear and tear.
To see all your options and to talk with the experts, drop into Deniliquin Jewellers in Cressy St, Deniliquin to make your wedding band selections.
