FIND SOME PEACE AND QUIET AT WILLOUGHBY’S BEACH
Willoughby’s BEACH Campground is the perfect place to RELAX this winter, and it’s only a stone’s throw from central Deniliquin.
The campground, located in the Murray Valley Regional Park on the banks of the graceful Edward River, radiates simplicity. The unmarked sites are versatile; anyone with a tent, camper trailer, caravan, or vehicle can stay and camping is free. And the family dog is welcome too! Visitors are advised to bring their own food, drinking and cooking water. Picnic tables, barbecues and fire pits are available but toilet facilities and pottable water are not. Enter along Memorial Drive, then follow the winding dirt track through the trees and down onto the beach on your left. All you have to do is pick your spot and set up camp. Visitors can take a walk along the river, light a campfire or try their hand at fishing. Those looking for an adrenaline hit can take their bikes out on the 12km of mountain bike trails which have entrances through Willougby’s Beach and Packenham St, Deniliquin. The trails are a fast and thrilling way to see the beauty of the park, and cyclists can choose from three loop tracks of medium difficulty. Don’t have your own bike? Rent one from Deniliquin Visitor Information Centre in George St. For those aquatic-minded guests, small to medium boats and kayaks can be lowered into the river from boat ramps accessible at Willoughby’s, giving visitors a chance to meander down the river from an entirely new perspective. Pull up on the opposite bank to explore the Kolety Walking tracks, about 1.3km under river red gum forest. From the campground, it’s an easy stroll on the sealed Beach to Beach Walk to town to grab a coffee or lunch before making your way back to camp. Look closely for an abundance of wildlife: kangaroos, parrots and galahs can be found under the canopies all year round — don’t forget your binoculars, and watch out for flashes of green, yellow, red and pink. Access to the walking and hiking tracks is free. A $6 per night booking fee applies to Willoughby’s Beach Campground and booking beforehand is required.
