Ten Thousand reasons to visit Tungamah

october 26

The ever-popular Tungamah Ten Thousand is back, bigger and better than ever in 2014, on Sunday, October 26.

T

he hallmark event, the 10km run (Ten Thousand) run kicks off at 10am and offers a fantastic $2000 in prize money – one of the biggest bounties on offer for a Victorian fun run event. There are also the enjoyable 5km fun runs for men and women and a 3km event for the juniors as well cycling criteriums which kick off at midday. The Tungamah Ten Thousand offers a great day of entertainment for the whole family, with activities, live music, dog jumping, novelty races, spinning wheel and the chance to win lots of prizes.

The kids will be kept busy with a treasure hunt and jumping castle while mums and dads search for a bargain in the car boot sale or relax and enjoy entertainment from DJ Peter Salt. Continuing the musical theme, the inaugural Tungamah Ten Thousand Talent Quest will begin at midday. The quest offers local amateur musicians the opportunity to perform live and possibly win a recording session courtesy of Tony Figgins at DV Sound. There are also minor prizes up for grabs thanks to the PCYC and Tungamah Leos. Following the quest, crowd-favourite Callum Gleeson will take to the stage from 2pm cap off a great afternoon at Tungamah. So clear your calendar, get the family together and plan for a great day out at the Tungamah Ten Thousand on Sunday, October 26.

Flock to the Yarrawonga Sheep nov 2 Races... it'd be baaaaad to miss it That’s right Sheep Races.

O

n Sunday, November 2 from 11am the JC Lowe Oval will be converted to a race track for sheep and what a great day of fun it will be. The track will only be 50 metres long because sheep don’t usually run like greyhounds but getting them down the track is

going to be the fun. There will be six races, five heats and then the big 2014 Thales Sheep Race Cup to see who is the champion sheep for this inaugural event. There will be a Calcutta auction of the sheep prior to racing. The sheep will race in the minor heats in an endeavour to claim a share of the individual heats $500 prize money. The winner will then be eligible to

compete in the big 2014 Thales Sheep Race Cup and share in the $1000 prize money. There will be plenty for everyone to do at this free entry event. The annual Goods and Services auction will be held upstairs in the Yarrawonga Football Netball Clubrooms from 11am. Anthony Lucas will be providing live entertainment, there will be historical vehicles and static

displays. Tickets to the large play area for the children including jumping castle, blow up goal posts, hand ball and kicking targets, are only $10 and the kids can stay and play all day. Special guest Shaun the Sheep will be and there will be lots and lots to do, so don’t miss it. For more details please call Yarrawonga Football Netball Club on 5744 3896.

Bringing back a buzz to our towns T

he town will be jumping with more than 700 colourful hot rods and pre 1965 restored and polished vehicles. This annual family favourite event organised by the Northern Suburbs Street Rods, now in its 24th year, attracts participants not only from across Victoria but from around Australia. Locals enjoyed the atmosphere created by the hum of the classic cars visiting for nearly a week last year and the town was abuzz with the invigorating atmosphere the event created. It was the talk of the town for weeks after. On Saturday, November 8 pop down to the Yarrawonga Foreshore from midday, to check out the Nostalgic Speed Boat display. There will be an assortment of beautifully restored wooden hull boats beautifully restored on display. And don’t miss the Nostalgic Drag Meet being held only 15 minutes away at the Wilby Motorsport Park from midday to 5pm. They might be old but these cars can still burn some rubber. On Saturday night Belmore Street is partly

closed for the Street Cruise. Bring the kids down, find a spot for your chair and grab some takeaway while you sit back and enjoy the cruising between McNally and Witt Streets from 4pm to 10. The atmosphere will be electric and the cars will be stunning. If it’s rock and roll you enjoy dress up and get down to the Yarrawonga Town Hall for the

Rock and Roll Dance. Jumpin Jive will be playing, bring your supper and dance the night away from 8.00pm till midnight. Tickets at the door and only $10 per person. Then if you still haven’t had enough of these beautiful vehicles the Yarrawonga football oval will play host to the Show and Shine on Sunday from 9am.

The cars will be lined up across the oval for all to inspect and there will be entertainment for the kids, music, food and stalls galore. Come down and make a day of it. If you enjoyed it last year you’re sure to be back but if you did don’t be disappointed this time round.

J.C.Lowe Reserve, Yarrawonga

That’s what Yarrawonga Mulwala can expect when the Lake Mulwala Rod Run returns from 7-9 November.

The event will see another high-quality elite field in the Olympic distance triathlon with four men and 7 women set to battle out for more than $8,000 in prize money. “The quality of the field is great for this early in the season and whilst I can’t make it onto the start line this year due to a recent injury I’ll be watching eagerly from the sidelines,” said three time world champion and YMMF

It wasn’t about winning but on doing my best. “I urge all locals to get involved in the YMMF and make participation a family affair. “I’ll be handing out a special offer for families at my school visits and hope to see you crossing the finish line over the weekend.” Online entries close midday Thursday 16 October, however entries are open from Friday 4pm at the festival headquarters.
