SPORT AND
FOOTBALL CLUB IS flying high
As one of the most successful Australian rules football teams in the country in recent times, a trip to Kyabram would not be complete without a Kyabram Bombers match day experience.
Established in 1894, the Bombers compete in the Goulburn Valley League and have been almost unbeatable in recent years.
Losing just one game between 2016 and 2019, the juggernaut took out the 2016, 2017 and 2019 premierships.
Boasting former Richmond Tigers star Kayne Pettifer and goal scoring machine Kyle Mueller, the club brought back ex-Melbourne listed player, Paul Newman, as coach for season 2022.
Newman has played a key role in the club’s recent success, with a next to impeccable coaching record at the helm of the side.
The Bombers look a bit different this year, with a number of changes in the squad making for a refreshed and exciting side hitting the fi eld.
However with Newman back in the coach’s seat, a tight-knit community behind them and some star power on the fi eld, Kyabram will be no less formidable.
With regular season games scheduled in April, May, June, July and August there are plenty of opportunities to catch the club in action, and you could be watching a future star of the game.
Former Melbourne captain Garry Lyon is one of a host of VFL/AFL talent to come out of Kyabram, with Brett Deledio, Dick Clay and Ross Dillon all among the Bombers graduates.
So if you are visiting Kyabram, ask a local if it’s football season, because a trip to the beating heart of the community, aka the football club, is sure to provide an exciting afternoon of entertainment.
