Nissan opens new plant in Indonesia TOKYO - Nissan Motor said Thursday it has opened its second plant in Indonesia, investing a total of 33 billion yen (10.5 billion baht) and creating up to 3,000 additional jobs.
The automaker will assemble Datsun-brand vehicles at the second plant of PT Nissan Motor Indonesia in Purwakarta of West Jawa province, located around 80 kilometres southeast of Jakarta, and plans to boost its production capacity in the country from 100,000 units per year to 250,000. At a ceremony to mark the inauguration of the plant, Nissan chief competitive officer Hiroto Saikawa said, "By investing in a second plant in Indonesia...we are now able to further satisfy the increasing demand of Indonesian customers." The company views Indonesia as a key strategic market and expects to sell more than 90,000 vehicles in the country in 2014.
