DOWN THE RIVER…
Looking for a longer paddle? Grab your kayak or canoe and follow the Beaver River as it winds its way across the M.D, through forests and farmland, all the way to the Saskatchewan border. Depending on the flow and height of the water, the journey can be a leisurely float or a bit of a paddle. Access to the river can be found at the Hwy. 41 Bridge north of Bonnyville, Rocky Meadows Country Getaway, Lessard Bridge on Rge. Rd. 452, Ardmore Bridge on Hwy. 892, and the Hwy. 28 bridge by Casino Dene.

If you want to end your hike or bike trek with a dip in the lake, Cold Lake Provincial Park has an excellent trail system for hiking and mountain biking. The public beach area is one of best spots to access the water.
For a more urban setting, the 12-kilometre paved Millennium Trail takes you through the City of Cold Lake and into 4 Wing. The trail also connects to the Heritage Trail along the lakeshore. Grab an ice cream cone at the marina or grab lunch at one of the restaurants close by.
In the Bonnyville area, take a leisurely stroll, long hike, or cycle through the M.D.’s Muriel Lake Park. The 13-kilometre trail system includes a path to the Lookout which offers the best view of the lake.
Moose Lake Provincial Park provides plenty of wildlife action on its six kilometres of trails. The tall pines are simply majestic.
Wildlife sightings are plentiful when you walk or ride along the 10-kilometre Wetlands Trail around Jessie Lake, which borders the Town of Bonnyville. You can now walk from the Town of Bonnyville to Vezeau Beach via the connected trail, which leads you to the tunnel that takes you under Hwy. 28. Continue along the trail to Moose Lake or take the branch of the trail that goes to the east to explore the paved North Shore Heights Trail. This section goes all the way north to the intersection with the multi-use Iron Horse Trail, ending at Hwy. 660.
Explore our boreal forests in a whole different way – on the back of a machine that will get you through some of the toughest terrain. Our region offers an unlimited number of back country cutline trails or you can master our man-made tracks.
The 300-kilometre multi-use Iron Horse Trail connects many of the area’s natural attractions. The Beaver River Trestle, at one kilometre long and 60 metres high, is one of the highlights of the trail. A paved parking lot and trail head to the trestle makes it accessible for everyone.
Riders can use the Iron Horse Trail to access countless kilometres of back-country trails and cutlines that weave through the region’s more rugged terrain. Looking to explore the entire region? Hook up with the Iron Horse Trail at one of the various entry points. The Iron Horse Trail branches in three directions from Mile Zero at Abilene Junction. To the northeast is Glendon and Bonnyville, to the west is Smoky Lake and Waskatenau, and to the southeast lies St. Paul, Elk Point, and Heinsburg.

BONNYVILLE MUSEUM
Learn about the history of the Bonnyville region through the impressive collection of artifacts at the Bonnyville and District Museum
The diversity of the region is depicted in fourteen buildings – several of which are original structures moved to the three-acre property by volunteers. On site are three churches, an expansive hospital exhibit, the 1920s Vallee General Store, two quaint homesteader cabins, and a firehall replica. The museum houses a vast array of agricultural and industrial artifacts – some of which are housed in the blacksmith shop, early automotive garage, and restored tractor shed.
The St. Anne Chapel is a recent addition. It was originally built in the Rife community in 1932. The chapel is fully adorned with historic furnishings and artifacts and is available for private bookings.
A visit to the Bonnyville & District Museum isn’t complete without seeing the stunning collection of folk-art miniatures, made between 1930 and 1950 by local artisan Clementine Poitras. Snap a selfie in front of the seven-metre high, hand-carved statue of 18th century Northwest Company fur trader, Angus Shaw.
Visit the museum’s website or Facebook page for hours, rates, and details. Admission fees range depending on age. Donations are gratefully accepted.

COLD LAKE MUSEUMS
The beauty, vastness, and abundant resources of the Cold Lake region has drawn a variety of people and businesses for years. The Cold Lake Museums tell the stories of their adventures.
Come enjoy the beautiful picnic area with an amazing view, surrounded by an air park containing several aircraft. Take a walk through the radome, a smaller version of the original three radomes that once graced the former 42 Radar Squadron site.
There are four areas of history to explore here – the Cold Lake Air Force Museum, the Oil & Gas gallery, the Heritage gallery, and the Indigenous Gallery.
The Air Force Museum paints a picture of 4 Wing and its squadrons and units from 1954 to present. Check out the immersive Cruise Missile exhibit and stand by for new exhibits coming this season.
The Oil & Gas gallery shows the unique technology developed specifically for the Cold Lake Oil Sands through interactive exhibits.
In the Indigenous gallery, you can learn about the history of the ᓀᐦᐃᔭᐤ Nêhiyaw (Cree), Michif Piyii (Métis), and Denesųłiné peoples living on the shores of Cold Lake. New features are coming this year.
The Heritage gallery contains the artifacts and storyline of the first Europeans arriving in Cold Lake at the end of the 19th century. Cold Lake was a land of farmers, fishermen, fur trappers, and loggers who came west for new opportunities. The Cold Lake Museums depicts their stories in various vignettes.

A LOCAL SKATE TRAIL!
Months of operation vary depending on the weather. Reach out to ask about tentative opening dates and recent conditions!
The trail features a 10-foot-wide ice path that is about a kilometre long in the shape of a loop so skaters can skate all day long!
If you are in the City of Cold Lake, you can also visit the Cold Lake Energy Centre. They provide updates on their skate trail via the City of Cold Lake Facebook Page.
FISH ALL YEAR LONG
CATCH 'EM 365 DAYS A YEAR
Spend the day on the ice at Cold Lake to see who can catch the first Lake Trout or venture to Little Bear Lake to find some “northern lobster” (Burbot) or Rainbow Trout. Walleye, Yellow Perch, and Lake Whitefish are also common on many of our local lakes, so get out, drop a line, and fire up the fish fryer!
