uppertown development lexington, kentucky
This site proposal illustrates
a rehabilitation of the parking lot for Rupp Arena as well as several surrounding blocks. The goals for the site include creating pedestrian and bicyclist friendly roads, reducing surface parking, developing a community green space in addition to community gardens. The average number of dwellings per acre is 19.7. There is a range of building types, including single-family detached, dwellings over commercial, apartments, etc. There are several different types of streets, from woonerfs to larger boulevards. There is a great deal of street parking as well as underground parking for the larger commercial unit on the corner by High Street. The unique pedestrian boulevard, which allows for a multitude of different activities (concerts, farmer’s markets, art fairs, etc.) makes this design a very memorable one.

grossman residence oldham county, kentucky
This design manipulates multiple levels of geometry and works with the dynamic 3 1
relationships that overlapping shapes create. This residential terrace uses simple, clean materials to achieve outdoor elegance. There are a variety of seating areas, including a dining space immediately outside the kitchen. There is a limestone path to the creek on the south side of the site. The vegetation in the design includes large architecturally interesting crape myrtles as the main landscape feature. The site drops several feet in elevation and opens to the view of the creek below.

epa rainworks challenge lexington, kentucky
This site is located on the upper region of the Town Branch watershed.
Therefore, all pollutants within the space ultimately reach the Town Branch and other local watersheds. Through this design’s unique storm water management approach, pollutants are contained and cleansed naturally in an inviting, usable space. This site was divided into four individual water treatment zones, correlating to the localized watershed within the Town Branch watershed.

design-build service-learning project lexington, kentucky
This art plaza design for The
Learning Center synthesizes many key elements necessary for the best use of this space. This area is high traffic, so the tall pergola allows students to pass through easily, but also has the ability to act as a social space with a variety of seating. The ground-level paving design emphasizes the significance of the art piece at its center and also radiates outward to the pergola and other important places where students might travel on campus. The large rocks act as a form of seating and also simply provide a variety of interactive space. All in all, this design pulls together many crucial necessities of this space. close-up of bench

1000 cubic foot dwelling lexington, kentucky
This site proposal illustrates a sustainable design for a community of 1000
cubic foot dwellings on .225 acres on Prall Street in Lexington, Ky. The goals for the site include developing individual and group practices to grow food on site, generate energy, and reuse water. The community gardens, living walls, central pavilion, entrance to the site, and house design all work together to achieve sustainability and livability.

pocket park This project was one of my
first while in the Landscape Architecture program. It included a great deal of sketching ideas, developing a plan, and then building a model. Some of the goals in this design were to create a dynamic space between two office buildings, develop different spaces for different uses (i.e. walking through versus sitting), address both sides of the street where the park is adjacent, make the space ADA accessible, juxtapose geometries to create interest, and ultimately produce a design that conforms to many different needs.

located in Nicholasville, Ky and across the street from the Alltech headquarters. I had the privilege of performing site visits with my team, and ended up designing the planting area around the Pavilion, which is adjacent to the Club House. The Pavilion is used to meetings, parties, receptions, etc.
This residential project on
Maxwell Street in Lexington, Ky included developing a variety of designs for the client. This was because the house was going to undergo some renovations after receiving approval for specific proposed improvements to the house from the Trust of Historic Preservation. The house has a large front porch and back deck, with minimal grass area. I utilized plants with unique color schemes as well as textures. The goal ultimately was low maintenance.
