This summer, I had the incredible opportunity of attending my third High School Workcamp. Although I typically do many things over the course of my summers, Workcamp has always been one of my absolute favorites. Not only do I get to spend a week with some of my best friends, but I also get to spend a week changing people’s lives- all while profoundly strengthening my faith and growing so much closer to God. From our nightly worship to our long, hard, and hot workdays, it is amazing to me that I can help positively impact other people’s lives, all while mine is being so positively impacted, too. I consider Workcamp to be one of my greatest privileges, and the impact that Workcamp has had on my life and my faith is such an incredible blessing. Due to the many opportunities provided to me through this church, I have no doubt that this is the strongest my faith has ever been, and I believe a lot of that faith has blossomed due to my experiences at High School Workcamp.

One of my favorite Workcamp experiences was on Thursday night. We had just finished having our nightly worship service and special communion. One of my small group leaders asked me to sit down with him and have a one-on-one conversation where topics such as faith family and everyday life are discussed. This one-on-one, however, seemed to be much different. We cried together due to our similar childhood upbringings. It was a transformative time sharing our emotions and realizing that there are many other people who are fighting just like me. Through my small group leader, I truly felt God’s love poured into me which I had felt very deprived of for a long time. Over the past five years Workcamp has introduced me to hundreds of people each with beautifully unique stories and experiences. I am forever grateful for all that MDUMC has done for me.
