Amos said the application has been written and council members will be receiving a copy. Council member Kathy Abbott noted that “these programs will be hugely beneficial.” Trivett asked about the technical training aspect of the grant. Amos said that the Downtown Ashland Association and Dominion Innovation Center include mentors ABBOTT and advisors and experts that basically pivot a business and how it is being marketed.
“How do you bring in new customers? How are you promoting your business? How are you making those connections?” were among the questions Amos provided in responding to the mayor.
She also said that many people have received federal funds and there is the question of how they are leveraged. “How do you account for them?” she said.
Amos said Virginia has placed new regulations on safety and workplace requirements.
Abbott noted that town businesses “are so different and they have different needs at this point. How do I survive? The rental assistance program would be terrific for people who are trying to get through this.”
Amos pointed out that the town “does have some businesses that are thriving and doing better than last year, but how do they keep that going? We have a full spectrum of businesses.”
