calendar year.

Now to those of you who lament this combination of “good news and bad news,” consider this: the increase in real estate values reflects the desirability of living in Hanover. People and businesses are attracted to a vibrant, healthy, well-planned and well-managed community, and that is reflected in the sustained growth in real estate values. People want to live, raise a family, do business and avail themselves of the high quality of life that residing in Hanover County affords.

I am, like many of my fellow citizens, not immune to the feeling the pinch of inflation and the rising cost of living. Paying more in property

Birmingham,AlabamaattorneyRobertNorrishelpsinjuredclaimants,nationwide,collectcashbenefitsfromAsbestosTrusts.“Norepresentationismadethatthequalityoflegalservicestobeperformedisgreaterthanthequalityoflegalservicesperformedbyotherlawyers.” taxes is antithetical to my constitution, but when I do a broad cost-benefit assessment and discuss the proposed budget with county staff and our elected leaders and compare the amenities of Hanover with those of neighboring counties, I am grateful for what Hanover offers. I feel that the proposed FY2023 budget is realistic and proactively funds necessary capital improvements. This budget also funds county services that are integral to our quality of life.

An aside to those citizens who may feel a need for tax relief: the county has a tax relief program. Whether you feel that you might benefit from some level of tax relief or know someone who may, contact the county to find out more about qualifying for this program. In fact, there is a hearing today to consider an ordinance to increase the thresholds for qualifying households. This proposed ordinance seeks to mitigate some of the “pain” of real estate taxes for those may need relief. I suggest that you consider attending today’s public hearing at 6 p.m. and address the entire Board of Supervisors with your comments or contact your supervisor and make your feelings known on this proposed ordinance increasing qualifying levels for tax relief.

Now my charge to readers is to review the proposed budget in detail or in summary, invest a little time to assess the future of the community as reflected in the budget and contact your supervisor to share your thoughts. Invoke your own “March Madness!”

It’s your community, it’s your money, it’s Hanover’s future.
