Spring in our step!

Kia ora, Well, this year is absolutely flying by! As the weather warms up, it’s great to see a ramp up of events and even more visitors to our district. It’s been wonderful to welcome our Australian cousins across the ditch too – when timing has allowed. With the warmer temperatures, now’s a great time to
start checking out some of our great hiking and biking tracks. We’re lucky enough to be just a short driving distance from some of the best walking tracks in the country. And, even though there might still be a bit of rain, our unique, free-draining pumice soil means anytime is a good time to go for a bike ride. If you’re lucky enough to be on holiday in our district, don’t forget to check out LoveTaupo.com for activity ideas – you may even find a few good deals on there too. The Taupō Town Centre Transformation project is progressing well with phases three and four – the biggest and most exciting phases now well underway. This will include the transformation of Tongariro Street, including a reduction to two lanes and the redistribution of car parking. It will also see significant improvements for pedestrians, with better linkages between the CBD, Tongariro Domain and Lake Terrace. Roberts Street and Lake Terrace will be transformed into a people-friendly environment, with pedestrian-friendly connections to Tūwharetoa Street, and connections to the lake and our beautiful environment.
This growth and development is really exciting and such a positive thing for the future of our district. We appreciate everyone’s patience navigating roadworks around town and helping keep the work crews safe. Nga mihi,
David Trewavas
