Our vibrant art and craft culture is bred by the relaxed pace of life here in Taupō. With many artists and artisans living in the region, beautiful pieces for the home are a specialty, inspired by stunning landscapes and native flora and fauna. From contemporary painting, sculpture, ceramics, and glass blowing to traditional Māori carvings and weaving. As well as uniquely kiwi classics made from wool, merino, and possum.
On Saturday and Sunday, Taupō Market and Market Central have stalls selling jewellery, hand-made children’s clothing, artisan crafts and homewares, fresh produce, tasty street food and coffee along with live music.
Creatives are drawn to the region, and this is clear when you meander the laneways to discover over 80 murals created during the annual Graffiato: Taupō Street Art Festival. There is a feast for your eyes around every corner with vibrant, large-scale murals from renowned New Zealand and international street artists. Pick up your free walking map from the Taupō i-SITE.
