Draperies, which provide elegance and add that finishing touch, can easily set the mood of the room or the style. Keep it light and airy here in the Low Country with cotton, linen, or sheer gauzy materials. Draperies can offer great light filtering or complete room darkening. A well-coordinated look can be accomplished by using matching or contrasting fabrics for custom pillows, throws, bedding, and table runners. Soft valances can be added to shades and blinds to soften the look and “pull in” the room’s décor. Sometimes that is all it takes to “finish off” a room that seems cold and bland. Just remember to keep these current trends in mind when choosing window dressings in the Low Country: Minimal is in. Lighten up with current colors such as neutrals, soft sea colors, cheerful tones, and charcoals (the new neutrals). Try texture. The use of fabric tapes to accent your treatments is very popular. Both floral and geometric patterns are experiencing a revival. Draperies with wide stripes, contrasting hues, or color blocking are being shown in a big way.
