Norden Surfboards, the brainchild of Angelo Schmitt & Andy Wirtz, was founded in 2002, at a time when surfing in the northern hemisphere began to really take off. As more and more people started to venture into the surf – especially around Europe - the Norden guys realized that the commonly available equipment was not designed to match the wave conditions or performance needs of this new crowd of surfers. Wanting to close that gap, these two veterans of the sport re-visited the reason why they started surfing in the first place to inform their vision for innovative board designs: the pure fun of just riding a wave. Recruiting legendary Shaper Glen D´Arcy from Jeffrey’s Bay, South Africa was key to their success. He is one in a small crowd of master-shapers who still has the skills to build surfboards from nearly all periods of surfing. Glen has

mowed foam on over 50000 surfboard and knew exactly how to help translate Andy and Angelo’s vision into exciting new board designs. These shapes were not the high performance surfboard that aimed to make people look like the latest pro on the World Tour, but a range of funboards that combined tried-and-tested old-school design with visionary ideas to enable surfers to catch waves - a lot of waves! - no matter how skilled the rider or how good the conditions. Today, more then a decade later, surfing has evolved to a higher level of performance and fun. But not only that! People today are riding waves on all kinds of equipment: traditional shortboards, new futuristic designs, mid-size single fins, malibus, longboards, skimboards, SUPs… you name it! We at Norden are stoked to see this development. It shows us that our original vision - the very reason we started Norden – hit the spot: with our growing range of boards for all conditions and performance levels, more people are catching more waves. Most importantly, they are doing so with one simple aim in mind: The pure joy of being in the surf.
STAND UP PADDLE boarding to us is a great ad on to our normal surfing routine and the most fun thing that has shown up in the line up for years. Being able to access any break no matter where it’s located, will it be an outside reef, or some sandbar down the cost, which you can not get to on land, stand up surfboards will take you there. Standing on your board while waiting for the waves to come gives you a complete new view of all. You can see the sets moving in from far away, set your self in the best spot, when peaks are shifting, you will spend more time riding waves then ever before. Riding the smallest wave, that hardly gets you going on a longboard, or big sets way outside that you might not be able to paddle into, the SUP will give you the opportunity to excess it all. And that´s still not all the benefits the SUP has to offer, you can cruise flat water on lakes or at sea with no swell,, watch the sea life or go fishing, and all that simply because your are standing on a board instead of lying down. For us the SUP will not replace our regular surfing, but access in a new chance to spend more quality time on the water then ever before.

NEW Futurma 7´8 With the recent innovative changes in surf board design with boards getting shorter, wider and thicker with less rocker-offer us a whole new experience of speed and maneuverability. A combination of reduced length, with more tail surface-area, and a shift of volume from the rails to the center of the board, makes for unprecedented power and performance in a SUP. The channeled bottom that runs into a “Rounded Squash Tail” rounds off a shape that is faster then anything you have ever ridden before. Adding two rocker lines by implementing a channel - with decreased rocker in the center for more control, and more pronounced rocker along the rail for more maneuverability - is the key to this SUP shape. COMBAT 7’6”, 7’11”, 8’3” The new Combats are our high-performance Wave SUPs. Thin rails, narrow nose and tail, and a high performance rocker line with a single into double concave V bottom makes the Combat the most radical SUP board in our range. PLAYBOARD 8’6’’ The Playboard is a super fun Surf SUP for experienced riders. Its flat rocker allows you to enter the wave quickly and easily, while thinned out rails give you the freedom to carve it like a regular surfboard. The board’s characteristic wing design-feature, combined with a thumb tail, give this shape a never seen top turn performance. The Playboard 8´6 works for riders up to 90 kg and some SUP-Surf experience on their backs, it is suitable for waves up to 3 m, but not recommended for flat-water paddling.

BIG DIAMOND 10´8” For anyone looking for a shape with maximum stability and that little bit of extra volume, the all-new Big Diamond is the SUP to go for. With a width of 31 ½ inches, it is unbelievably stable. However, thinned out rails will still let it carve like a surfboard, and a rolled bottom with a slight V-design in the tail let it turn with ease, even in smaller, slower surf. An additional V-bottom feature in the nose, as well as a flatter rocker line, also allows it to be paddled very comfortably in flat water. Ride it with 3 fins for more stability or simply as a classic single longboard, one thing is for sure, the Big Diamond is one of the most fun SUP boards we ever developed.

TOURING 11’0”, 12´6 The Touring is a great board for flatwater, open ocean and river SUPing. With a storage net in the nose and tail you can pack anything you need for your journey. A full EVA deck will give you great comfort while paddeling and allows you to move around on the board without loosing grip. The keel-shaped nose cuts through the water with superior speed and ease. Its flat middle section with extra width gives it great stability, and tucked-in rails maximize manoeuvrability. Additionally, when compared to a traditional raceboard, the Touring has a little bit more rocker, which enhances the board’s surfing performance by minimizing the risk of nose undercutting on swells.

FREERACE 14´ The Freerace is our more Race orientated version of the classic Touring shape. The longer nose bow, straighter rail and the flat planing bottom creates lass drag and allows the board to lift out of the water to accelerate faster. With only 27.5 to 28 inches in width and a recessed deck area it is still very stable, the open ocean rocker line makes it a great shape for down winders and allows you to catch a few waves along the shore. The Freerace has grab handles which can also be used to attach a storage net and is built only in our Ultra Light Carbon construction to give you the lightest board possible. For anyone that wants to sprint around the block, rather then taking a cruise, this is the board to go for.

DOUBLE WOOD SANDWICH CONSTRUCTION The double wood sandwich construction offers the best balance in strength, durability and light weight. We use 20 kg EPS cores on smaller Boards and 15 kg EPS cores on the bigger boards. Two T-Stringers provide the boards’ core with the right degree of strength without compromising flex. The boards are glassed with two layers of 6 & 4-ounce fibreglass cloth on the bottom + a full bamboo wood sheet and 2 layers of 2x 4-ounce fibreglass cloth , 1 layer of full bamboo wood + a ¾ bamboo patch in the standing area on the board’s top. A hard-coat spray finish protects the colour design from paddle-dings and collision with ‘other things’ you might hit in and out of the water. The Diamond Groove EVA Deck is designed to afford you superior grip and comfort on your board. SUPER LIGHT CARBON CONSTRUCTION The all new super light carbon construction is by far the lightest construction we ever offered. Using a very light eps core which will be completely vacuum-laminated with pvc and carbon sandwich, allows us to use less fibreglass and no stringer without sacrificing any durability. Additionally the boards get finished of with a super light brush coat which gives it the rustic look and saves us some extra grams by leaving the traditional spray design behind. As light is only better when the shape matches the construction, we offer the super light carbon version only on the small Wave SUPs and the Explorer Sport because this is where it really makes sense! SURF GLASS TECHNOLOGY The new surf glass technology offers a similar feel to the construction of a normal epoxy surfboard. Using a 20kg EPS core, hand laminated with 6oz fibreglass + carbon vector net top and bottom and wood veneer in the standing area make the board light, yet strong, a carbon band in the bottom controls the flex and will give the board extra strength. SOFTTOP CONSTRUCTION Our Softtop construction is unique. 25 kg EPS cores with 2 wood stringers, 6-ounce fiberglass, wood veneer reinforced foot placement areas, full EVA deck, hard bottom, and glassflex fins are all common design features for SUP school boards. However, at norden we are always looking to go the extra mile to improve performance and user friendliness. With this in mind, our softtop boards are additionally equipped with rails that are completely foiled and shaped, just like on any normal SUP board. This feature gives a beginner a much better chance to maneuver the board from day one. The sides of the rails are wrapped with an undistructable rubber band that can take some serious beatings. The ergonomic shaped square handle helps the student to carry the board with ease. These construction improvements, combined with the teaching-aid EVA colourdeck design makes the Norden Softtop SUP boards the strongest and most advanced schooling board available.
