Media City Film Festival: Artistic Background & Community
Media Cityis Windsor / Detroit’s annual international
festival for film, video, and media art. Each year the Festival attracts filmmakers, artists and audience members from across North America and around the globe to participate in a week long celebration featuring screening, workshops, parties, lectures, exhibitions, performances, and other special events. Since 1994, Media City has recieved more than 35,000 film entries from over 112 different nations worldwide. We have hosted hundreds of filmmakers and guests from countries including Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Ecuador, England, France, Japan, Korea, Senegal, Spain and many more. Films premiered at Media City have had subsequent screenings at the Cannes, Toronto, New York, Rotterdam and Sundance Film Festivals; the Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art (New York), Harvard Film Archive, the Tate Modern (London), and the Centre George Pompidou (Paris). Media City has also introduced dozens of emerging filmmakers and artists to the world stage, many of whom have gone on to win major awards including the Palme d’Or at Cannes and other prestigious accolades. Locally, Media City has cultivated a dedicated community of volunteers and partners at the grass roots and institutional level on both sides of the border. We have collaborated with organizations such as the Detroit Institute of Arts, University of Windsor, the Museum of Contempoary Art Detroit, the Art Gallery of Windsor, Imagination Station and many others.
