There were some complications after my birth. And, I needed special care in the NICU. I was there for 5 weeks. My family stayed by my side

Sister Gale found me in the NICU one day...she picked me up to comfort me when I cried, held me close and rocked me to sleep, prayed with me and spent lots of time with me over the five weeks I was in the hospital

DAILY HOSPITAL UPDATES From Mema’s Facebook page October 9, 2013 (**Baby Izaak’s progress report is sent to us every morning at 5:30 am. from St. Barnabas NICU - what a nice personal touch!... This is what we received this morning) Good morning Mommy and Daddy! I wasn’t weighed today -- my last weight was 2925 grams (6 lb 7.2 oz) yesterday. I figured out how to keep my temperature up all on my own, so now I’m in a crib. I was fed 8 times yesterday and I took 60-95 ml at each feeding. I received a total amount of 649 ml (21.9 oz) for the day. I nipple fed 100% of my intake. My last feeding was at 5 AM and I took 80 ml by nipple. My next feeding should be around 8 AM. Since yesterday morning, I pooped 7 times and the last time was around 5 AM. I got lots of rest in between feedings too. See you later Mommy and Daddy. Get your rest so you can visit me soon. DAILY HOSPITAL UPDATES From Mema’s Facebook page October 10, 2013 (**This morning’s hospital update: Baby Izaak is back to his original birth weight and we are ever so thankful for the care he is receiving at at Saint Barnabas Medical Center NICU) Good morning Mommy and Daddy! I weigh 2990 grams (6 lb 9.5 oz) today, up 65 grams (2.3 oz) from 2 days ago. I gained an average of 55.0 grams (1.9 oz) per day over the past 3 days. You should be impressed by the way I’m gaining. This is just grand! I was fed 6 times yesterday and I took 85-140 ml at each feeding. I received a total amount of 730 ml (24.7 oz) for the day. I nipple fed 100% of my intake. My last feeding was at 4 AM and I took 125 ml by nipple. My next feeding should be around 8 AM. Since yesterday morning, I pooped 5 times and the last time was around 4 AM. I sent Mommy and Daddy home to rest and then I fed him and held him while he slept in my arms for hours... he had a grip on my finger and wouldn’t let go) Happy Friday Mommy and Daddy! I weigh 3085 grams (6 lb 12.8 oz) today, up 95 grams (3.4 oz) from yesterday’s weight. I gained an average of 65.0 grams (2.3 oz) per day over the past 4 days. My nurse gave me a gold star for my weight gain. I was fed 6 times yesterday and I took 90-120 ml at each feeding. I received a total amount of 665 ml (22.5 oz) for the day. I nipple fed 100% of my intake. My last feeding was at 4 AM and I took 110 ml by nipple. My next feeding should be around 8 AM. Since yesterday morning, I pooped once around noon. DAILY HOSPITAL UPDATES From Mema’s Facebook page October 12, 2013 **This morning’s hospital update: Our little man is continuing to improve daily... my heart is blessed! Good morning Mommy and Daddy! I weigh 3160 grams (6 lb 15.5 oz) today, up 75 grams (2.6 oz) from yesterday’s weight. I gained an average of 67.0 grams (2.4 oz) per day over the past 5 days. I’m gaining so well that the nurses want me to teach some of the other babies how to gain weight. I was fed 6 times yesterday and I took 80-150 ml at each feeding. I received a total amount of 581 ml (19.6 oz) for the day. I nipple fed 100% of my intake. My last feeding was at 4 AM and I took 105 ml by nipple. My next feeding should be around 8 AM. Since yesterday morning, I pooped 4 times and the last time was around 4 AM. Ciao Mommy and Daddy. Please come and see me soon. I weigh 3170 grams (6 lb 15.8 oz) today, up 10 grams (0.4 oz) from yesterday’s weight. I gained an average of 57.5 grams (2.0 oz) per day over the past 6 days. Aren’t you impressed by the way I’m gaining? I was fed 6 times yesterday and I took 100-180 ml at each feeding. I received a total amount of 720 ml for the day. A fluid oz is about 30 ml so this is about 24.3 oz. I nipple fed 100% of my intake. My last feeding was at 4 AM and I took 100 ml by nipple. My next feeding should be around 8 AM. Since yesterday morning, I pooped 6 times and the last time was around 4 AM. Aloha Mommy and Daddy. I love the way you smell when you visit. Consultation with his doctor today will lay out the progress report and hopefully the discharge plan) Good morning Mommy and Daddy! I weigh 3275 grams (7 lb 3.5 oz) today, up 25 grams (0.9 oz) from yesterday’s weight. I gained an average of 47.5 grams (1.7 oz) per day over the past 6 days. I’m gaining so well that I’m going to be busting out of here pretty soon! I was fed 6 times yesterday and I took 100-150 ml at each feeding. I received a total amount of 775 ml (26.2 oz) for the day. I nipple fed 100% of my intake. My last feeding was at 4 AM and I took 150 ml by nipple. My next feeding should be around 8 AM. Since yesterday morning, I pooped 5 times and the last time was around 4 AM. Arrivederci Mommy and Daddy. Your visits make me so happy!
