DRAG RACE GONE WRONG?

■ A suspected Friday afternoon drag race has landed two Carrum Downs pedestrians in hospital.

The unsuspecting members of the public, plus the driver of one of the cars, went to hospital after a vehicle ploughed through a bus shelter on FrankstonDandenong Rd, near Avondrust Lodge.

The fence of the residential aged centre was damaged in the incident, but authorities say that none of the Avondrust residents or staff were injured.

The driver suffered serious injuries and was reported to be under Police guard.

The driver of a second vehicle in the suspected drag race was arrested and was saiisd to be assisting Police with their inquiries.

Police officers were probing whether the cars were racing each other following reports the vehicles had been spotted driving erratically in the moments before the crash.

All outbound lanes have were closed at Wedge Rd, with Police diverting drivers.
