EEA logo

EEA logo

The EEA's logo consists of two elements: a name and a symbol. As a general rule, the name always appears beside the symbol. The typography of the name has been especially designed for the EEA

and must therefore not be typeset manually. The EEA 'flower' symbolises the organisation and its primary role as a European environment information provider.

The symbol shows green leaves and blue machinery. Leaves symbolise nature, while machinery symbolises industry. These two elements are brought together harmoniously in the form of a flower.

The EEA logo is reproduced in two Pantone colours and black.

The name may only be reproduced in black or white.

The reproduction of the colours can vary depending on the choice of materials and method of production/printing.

The symbol may only be reproduced in original colours, black or white. The assigned colour specifications must be used.

The Pantone colour scale represents the base point and should be used for match tests on all materials.

EEA logo

The logo can be used in both a positive version (e.g. original colours or black) or a negative version (e.g. white). The name may only be reproduced in black or white.

EEA logo | Proportions and scaling

The symbol may be reproduced in original colours, black or white.

For printed publications to be translated, use only a positive logo.

As far as possible the logo should be reproduced in the original colours against a white background. Where this is not possible, variations on the page can be used.

The basic structure and proportions of the logo must comply with the principles shown here.

The respective distances correspond to the height of the lettering in the name.

When the logo is positioned, the respective distances shown (i.e. minimum distance to other objects) must be applied.

The proportions of the logo are as follows:

Original size

75 mm Positive — in original colours.

Minimum size 40 mm Negative — on pictures — in dark areas of the picture (Avoid using a negative logo when the product is translated).

3.3 Proportions

Negative — white on coloured background (Avoid using a negative logo when the product is translated).

EEA logo | Language versions

The language versions of the EEA's logo must be used when a text is translated. The abbreviations listed refer to the country code and the documented files. The rules for the logo use described in this chapter apply for all language versions.

The spacing and alignment between the end of the name and the symbol is constant irrespective of logo versions. Allowance should always be made for the variable left-hand edge of the logo.

Colour palette

Fonts To give the products a consistent look and feel, a number of fonts have been chosen. Verdana is used for main and intermediate headings, captions, charts, tables, diagrams and graphs

where prominent and clear type is required. Palatino Linotype is used for body text, it is easy to read, and gives a harmonious feel to the text. Arial is used for stationery.

Avenir is used for the EEA logotype and contact information. The type stands out clearly and prominently and is also used for headers when the title is not translated, e.g. on posters.

The EEA has two primary brand colours: green and dark blue. The two corporate colours are used on regularly published products. The corporate colours support and correspond with the logo colours.

A number of colours have been selected to give the design a contemporary and dynamic look. The colours can be used in graphs and illustrations, and help retain impact of product and information

when used in a black and white photocopy. Each year a new colour is chosen as the 'colour of the year'. This makes it easy to distinguish between the latest products and older publications.

Image style

To give products and other prints a spacious and consistent design the following themes are used for pictures: • •

a simple object/close up a low horizon

• •

details or structures repeated elements.

Images are used both on covers and inside the publications. An image used on a cover may directly illustrate the topic. If too many

images are associated with the topic, an abstract image is used. Use pictures without any national symbols.
