Swing Time
From clubs to bats, it’s game on in Scottsdale QuiCK tiPS Hot Links Sure the W scottsdale has a rooftop pool and swanky spa, but with no golf course, what’s a duffer to do? That dilemma is over now that hotel guests can book a day of unlimited play at The Phoenician, ending with complimentary drinks and cigars. 7277 e. Camelback road 480-970-2100
Batter Up Cactus League spring training gets into full swing March 3 to April 4 when the San Francisco Giants return to scottsdale stadium. Grab a seat in the stands or head to Chorro Lodge, where you can enjoy great views, food and beverages. 7408 e. Osborn road 480-312-2586
Reach new heights this year by enrolling in a class at Az on the rocks, a unique indoor climbing gym that offers individual and group classes, as well as corporate team building exercises. 16447 n. 91st St. 480-502-9777
Sun-drenched days under cover of bright blue skies beckons Scottsdale visitors and residents to enjoy a day watching their favorite sport, especially two of the city’s most time-honored traditions: PGA TOUR golf and Cactus League spring training baseball. Known as the “Greatest Show on Grass,” the Phoenix Open returns to the TPC Scottsdale in late February. With a new name and sponsor, the tournament promises to bring the same excitement and revelry it has for the past 75 years. And with more than half a cactus league spring training million people expected, this will certainly be a party you won’t want to miss. The sports action doesn’t end there. Quick on the heels of the Phoenix Open is the start of spring training baseball, where the home team San Francisco Giants will take to the field against such teams as the Los Angeles Dodgers, Cleveland Indians and Chicago Cubs. Spend a day at the ballpark feasting on hot dogs, peanuts and Cracker Jacks while the boys of summer swing, hit and slide their way to a big win.

Rock On
In Scottsdale, nothing is sweeter than the sound of the crack of a bat or the soft “plink” of a golf ball sinking into the hole.
Dream Team Formerly the Kostis/McCord Learning Center, Peter Kostis and Gary McCord can still be found at the center, which is now headed by Paul Trittler, Jeff Yurkiewicz, Stan Utley and Andrew Getson. 8620 E. Thompson Peak Pkwy. 480-502-2656
Game getting a little rusty? Dust off those clubs and get back in the game with an instructional session at the Grayhawk Learning Center. Ranked the No. 2 golf school in the country by Golf Magazine, the center offers private instruction, workshops, multi-day golf schools and corporate programs.

Whether you’re into something rich and strong or something light and fruity, a great glass of wine always hits the spot. Thankfully, Scottsdale is filled with a growing number of bars dedicated to the fruit off the vine. In Old Town, there’s Kazmierz World Wine Bar, a trendy hotspot that’s as mysterious as it is popular. Tucked away near Stetson and 6th Street, the bar offers more than 3,200 wines, helping it earn the recognition of being Arizona’s only wine bar to be awarded the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence annually from 2001 to 2007. At Market Street at DC onyx Bar & lounge Ranch in north Scottsdale, Armitage Bistro offers an eclectic selection of wines that can be enjoyed in a relaxed setting with an Old World ambiance. The newest wine spot to hit the Scottsdale scene is 5th and Wine, which offers a selection of “wine duets,” giving guests the chance to taste two wines to compare with one another. Axis rAdius
