St. Barths is one of several French islands in the Caribbean officially known as the Territorial Collectivity of Saint Barthelemy. The island is 9.7 square miles with a population of approximately 10,000. The capital is Gustavia.
Located in the North eastern Caribbean, the destination is a beehive of activity from the high-end luxury tourists who would like to get away from the daily hustle and bustle in Europe or North America.
The island has much to offer the visitor, with more than 20 beaches throughout the island. If you like watersports, the destination offers that along with diving, fishing, and boating. It has many Creole and French dining options. To learn more about the island, you can visit a number of historical sites such as Fort Gustav and the Wall House Museum.
There are no large chain resorts, more boutique type hotels and villas.
The Euro is the official currency, but US Dollars are widely accepted. French is the official language, but English is understood throughout the island.
The island can be reached very easily by ferry from Sint Maarten or St. Martin or by plane. Travelers are expected to have their travel documents in order for French Immigration and Border Control officers to review upon arrival which would be a valid passport and visa depending on your country of origin.
