Automatic Rocking chair A rocking chair or rocker is a type of chair with two curved bands of wood, also known as rockers attached to the bottom of the legs. The chair is in contact with the floor only at two points, giving the occupant the freedom to rock the chair, back and forth by shifting his/her weight, offering a comfortable, seesawing and relaxing experience. A rocking chair is also known as rocker, easy chair, Boston rocker, swing rocker, platform rocker etc. A shoofly is a child's rocking chair often made to resemble an animal, such as a swan or a duck. Many people find rocking chairs soothing because of their gentle motion. Another reason why these chairs are comfortable is because, the moment a user sits on a chair, it automatically rocks backwards until the occupant's center of gravity is aligned and stable, thus granting a natural benefit to the occupant keeping him/her at a very unstressed position and sitting angle. In this kit we will assemble a rocking chair with an automatic rocking mechanism, just like the real one.

How to operate: Switch on the power supply and observe the chair rocking!

Lesson to be learnt: Center of Gravity: Center of gravity of a system is a point where the entire weight of the object is supposed to be concentrated or it is a point where the gravity can be assumed to act. The rocking chair by the virtue of its curved surface touching the ground has the property of an oscillating centre of gravity. You can say that a rocking chair with a person sitting is a close relative of an oscillating pendulum with a person hanging on it.
