DEZINE

DEZINE Simply, this is a zine of graphic design students at the Univerisy of Utah. Using multiple processes, mediums, theme’s, etc. we each have created unique designs to fill the pages of this zine. Enjoy.

Learning Through Doing The creation of these designs were inspired by the book and chapter, “Uncommon Genius: Learning Through Doing. We were each given a slip of paper with the name of our object, then passed our sketchbooks around the room, each drawing the object in our own style. These designs are a great example of how one simple object can be expressed so many different ways, in all shapes and forms. Visual Puns These entries were created by collecting a found object from outside and turning it into a “visual pun.” The lesson behind doing this exercise came from our class book and chapter, “Uncommon Genius: Change in Perspective.” Artists Megan Maurer Sarah Hogg Kyra Ott Carly Larsen Jennifer Danh

Encouraging Luck This design was inspired and re-created in my own style by artist and designer Ben Faydherbe from the Netherlands. We were instructed to explore a-g-i.org and find an interesting poster/design, then re-create it using photoshop. I was inspired by this poster because Ben Faydherbe took one image and duplicated it in many different sizes to create a very interesting image with the layered large text, “whisper” over the images. The image I used came from the MacArthur winner in the book and chapter “Uncommon Genius: Encouraging Luck,” Ian Graham. This approach was a unique way to create pattern and incorporate text.
