Mind map of words

Chosen words Conscious Fusion Unique Diverse

Final three chosen wordsConscious We chose the word conscious to represent the idea that we are aware of the news and events happening around the world.

Fusion We chose the word Fusion as the magazine will be a merge of all of our own created collections. We plan to combine all of our ideas, identity's and styles into one.

Diversity We chose the word diversity as we would like our magazine to contain a wide diverse range of models and context, just like ourselves who created it.

My Mood board for the magazine

What was my first ideas for the group magazine? My first thoughts for the group magazine was for it to contain a very strong, colourful, open minded context. I tried to portray this within my mood board. One image I used was of a ladies with flowers and other colourful objects exploding out of her mind. This was to express all of our very different quality's and ideas, then thinking about how we could merge them all together as one. Another image I used had the same kind of characteristics however it was buildings that merged with the bottom of her face. This again was to try portray that all our thoughts are completely different and range from architecture to flowers, we are all completely different but are all one for this magazine. I also wanted to express through the magazine that is what is on the inside that counts and that our skin and outside features are nothing compared to the inside. I did this by using the two pictures on the right. One has a model with stitching shooting out of her mouth and the other has doodles drawn over the top of her skin. We plan to talk about all different issues that are happening around the world which are important from climate change to Brexit. This is what these images are portraying the open mindness and wide variety I would like our magazine to contain. The biggest most colourful image on the mood board is not only to portray the colours I would like within the magazine but also the equality. The image reminds me that we are all equal and one together on the planet. Just like we all have our own equal parts within the magazine and are one as a group to present it.

Marketing Strategy Spectrum ‘used to classify something in terms of its position on a scale between two extreme points’ For our brand we decided to select the name ‘Spectrum’. The brand name portrays how diverse we are as individuals as well as showing the class’s wide range of personality, style, and views which link us all as a group. This word therefore links with our chosen themes; fusion, diversity and conscious. The first word we chose was fusion as we will be merging and collaborating for the brand. Diversity, shows our differences in terms of personality, culture, age etc.. Finally, conscious was chosen as we are all very aware of global issues and trends, as well as being open minded. We felt that these words best represented us as a collective and were used as inspiration to base our brand name off. ‘Exploring global issues through the power of fashion’ Our initial concept for the brand is for it to be fun, visual, quirky and colourful. We aim to offer an unusual and unique outlook on conscious and current issues. Within our brand we will create content reflective of the world now from our individual perspectives using transmedia storytelling techniques such as a fashion film, magazine, Instagram, invitations, business cards, fashion show programmes and other merchandise such as bags, stickers and badges. We will be targeting the magazine at millennials who are aware and conscious of issues already that are open to learning more and gaining a deeper understanding. In order to differentiate ourselves from our competition, we will combine a mix of our skills and design styles which will be fused together to make a collective and cohesive brand.

Evaluation of group mood board This mood board is the final over all plan for the magazine. It explores how deep our magazine will go to over come the stigma of peoples appearances and looks and how we are all equal. We plan to do this by making the readers look at the world with another point of view. We will do this by showcasing all of our totally opposite and different collections within the one magazine. This will help portray that although we are all unique with our thoughts when it comes to creating, we all are just as strong and eye catching together. The aim is to portray this all in a fun, youthful, quirky way. Using lots of colour and strong imagery to attract the viewers.

Evaluation of group mood board This mood board is to portray one of our key words ‘Fusion’ visually. We chose this word as we are all literally fusing our collections and thoughts together into one magazine. We all have completely different life styles and back grounds but all have an equal part within our roles to make the project work.

Evaluation of group mood board This mood board is to portray one of our key words ‘Diversity’ visually. Our magazine we plan to be full of diversity. As we want to portray the equality of us all we do not put labels on anyone. We want to showcase the beauty of everyone and everything from around the world. By celebrating the difference and uniqueness in us all.

Evaluation of group mood board This mood board is to portray one of our key words ‘Conscious’ visually. We are all extremely conscious of everything that is happening around the world. From nature to the news we want to help make the world a whole. We plan to praise everyone's unique aspects and differences, while also displaying equality within us all. Therefore we are all always very open minding to new ideas, styles and ways of life.

Research into competitor brands branding strategy's – John Moores John Moores’s student magazine will be one of our biggest competitors. This is due to us both targeting the same target market and both coming from Liverpool. However we do have an advantage over JM’s already. They do not have any social media pages dedicated to there magazine like we do. This means that I will have to compare our social media page’s to either other university social media pages or high street brands. But I can take inspiration and ideas from there magazine that are working for them and help portray these within our own magazine. While also having a look at there general Instagram for all there arts students. There UNFOLD magazine that they created last year based on exploring topics from diversity, culture and sustainability. This indicated that they will have some over lapping topics that we plan to showcase within our magazine this year. Throughout there magazine they have always kept the white background spacing consistent. Although each part contains completely different topics, styling and imagery this helps with the overall flow of the magazine hugely. They also have only two fonts for the titles of the pages. This again helps with the flow and continuity of the magazine and is a really clever idea. They have chosen theses two fonts as if the section does not go with one it will definitely match the other.

Research into competitor brands branding strategy's – Miss Guided The social media pages from MG are very quirky, sassy and edge cutting. They like to push the boundary's of there pages by using provocative images and slag word’s. (example image one). They do this as the brands image is all about creating a bad girl vibe. They like to play on the idea of a angel and devil girl mixed into one, which is some minds is the ‘perfect girl’. The use of colour is always a must for there posts of images, which adds an eye catching element to the always fun exciting imagery. Pink is usually a prominent colour, as it is usually seen within every few posts. (example image two). This again to attract there main gender as pink is the stereotypical colour to portray girls. They also like to use the idea of gender equality. The whole brand is based on feminism and femininity, which is portrayed strongly through all of there social media pages. (example image three). They do this by creating there own quotes with there own logo and style. Each quote that they create is made using the same format so that It is consistent while also creating a presence for the brand always. They also carry out this continuity by using a white boarder around all of there selected images. This makes the social media pages look much more neat, while also giving there image’s difference to there competition. EXAMPLE 4 IMAGE. As Image 4 shows the white boarder around the image distorts the picture completely on there consumers home page. This means that it becomes more prominent while scrolling past over there competitors, again creating a presence of the brand always.

Analysing MG’s over all look and presence Mg’s appearance over all is youthful, fun and fashion forward. They are always either on trend or trend starting. They do this by keeping up to date with celeb’s looks and trends and how they can incorporate this high end style into high street. (example image one). They are also one of the most feminist high street brands. This is due to the colours, quotes and clothing they choose. (example image two). There website is baby pink and grey at the moment however, they have always used pink as there prominent brand identity colour and played round with the others. They use slogans like ‘babe power’ ‘girl power’ and ‘ cute dresses requiring even cuter babes’ through out all there campaigns, social media and website. This is to attract there target market, which they said during an interview with essential retail 2014 is ‘ women aged 16 to 35’. This is a similar age range to spectrum and with a ‘announced turnover of £55 million for the 12 months to March 2013’ this style of promotion and presence must be working for the company. I plan to convert there use of colours and slogans into spectrums social media page. This will help us attract the target market that our magazine plans to attract and help portray the three words we have chosen to revolve around

Research into competitor brands branding strategy's – Rare London RARE London social media page’s are the opposite to MG. The brand works of four words classy, sassy, icon and siren. This shows in all of there posts. The images that they tend to post have a much more minimalistic vibe. They use more subtle muted toned colours like nudes and white, while having a pop of colour from one item in the image for example a red rose. (example image one). They do this as the target a more high end styled customer who wants the look and quality of high end brands but not their prices. However there prices are more expensive than most dresses and garments on the high street. (example image two). They use images which much more elegance, which portrays a rich life style. However they do try be a bit more youthful with the way in which they quote things and word there captions. They also tend to use more socialites than singers, actresses etc. celebs. I f eel they do this as it is easier for this brand to get socialites like this to wear their brand as it still a small brand compared to its competitors. Which as our magazine is new and small compared to the competitors we could maybe consider looking into more as this is a clever way of expanding our presence.

My plan for the social media pages For our own social media pages, I plan to merge fun, sassy. Quirky images that I find with our own work. Our work will include everyone's line up, and then at least one if not more of everyone's illustration on the page also. Me and Georgia originally planned to work on both Facebook and Instagram together, however we then found it easier to be in charge of one each. Georgia ended up working more so on Facebook and me more so on Instagram, however we did help and participate with both. Out plan for Instagram was to post at least twice a day one in the morning and one in the evening. We decided this as we figured that the mornings people have only just woke up and are checking there phones, therefore our posts will be seen first thing on there news feed. And also the evening after work or university, while there at home relaxing on there phone our posts will also be noticed. However, half was through we decided to add in a mid day post, for people maybe on there dinner hour or having a break on there phones on the middle of the day. We also planned to use hashtags on every post that we did to help spread our page/magazines name and identity with #spectrumfd17. As our accounts are not private anyone who types in this hashtag can see all our pages posts globally, which is helpful as our magazine wants to portray global issues within the fashion industry. We then decided on using the idea from my research on the MG’S social media pages. This was to use a white boarder around each image to distort them compared to the other images seen on peoples news feed. This would help give us a slight edge over the other posts and hopefully helps each post become more eye catching. The types of image’s that we plan to research and find style wise our, travel, food and drink, beauty, inspirations, quotes and then some targeted event posts, for example if there was anything big happening around the world we would post about it. All theses posts needed to be colourful while also complementing and keying back to our previous ones. While also having elements of some of our own sections elemental, the wanderer, urban activist and decadence drama.

Logo designs

These are the original logo’s that Lauren and Megan R created. I was really pleased with the overall colour and font choice. I liked the way they created six different coloured designs for us to come back as a class and chose from. The pattern they have chosen for the background relates to the name ‘Spectrum’. “a band of colours, as seen in a rainbow, produced by separation of the components of light by their different degrees of refraction according to wavelength.” This is the definition of the word Spectrum and I feel the two girls have really played on this definition with the background image.

Logo design development

This is the second logo that was created by Lyndsey after she played around with the first ones on Photoshop. She added in a barcode affect which I feel is very interesting and eye catching. I feel this barcode could be a way to represent that the magazine is our identity. I also am pleased with the colour selection of different blues and purples. They work well together to make an abstract pattern for our logo.

Ribbon research for sweet bags For the sweets we decided on using clear cones as these were prices most reasonably within our budget while also looking neat and professional. I suggested that we used ribbon round the top of the cones to seal them and then curl the ribbon to create a spiral effect. I managed to find holographic ribbon which plays on our name ‘Spectrum’ as a spectrum is an arrange of colours online. However the length and price would be too expensive for the budget therefore I began to shop around. I managed to find a much bigger roll of it were we would just need one of each colour we wanted for £3 each. I chose the silver and purple as purple is within our logo and throughout the whole of our press pack and the silver shows an variety of colours within it when the light hits it. Overall I am extremely happy and proud with the way the sweets looked over all and found them very fun yet professional.

Magazine layout actual pages

For my location I was still undecided as the two American styled diners Archie's and Kaspas had not got back to me. Therefore I created this mood board including both the diners and the natural background setting of St George's hall as the group felt some shoots should be taken here to keep the magazine contestant.

For my colour I wanted to stick with my collection colours pink and black. These colours are very strong colours and really help with the presence and context of my collection. I will either use these colours in both the clothing/styling and background or just the clothing and styling with a more muted background. This way the model is much more eye catching.

I want the poses and angels I chose to be all about the models facial expressions. I plan for the model to portray feels and emotion through the visuals I chose. These feelings and emotions will be a strong, fierce, feminist. I also plan to do some close ups of the detailing on my models clothing's and accessory's.

I want my model to have an edgy look. I don’t want her to have to much of a natural, soft beauty image. More of a rock and roll chick vibe. I want dark hair and eyes with fair skin so that the clothing and styling really stand out on her but still match her to create the over all vibe I want.

I would really like to shoot my collection however it is not ready at all yet. Therefore I am going to shop around for garments with the same colour, texture and detailing as my collection. I want lace up detailing, black and pink clothing and leather and cotton material.

My models make up I would like to be very natural and minimal. While her hair I would like to be messy and wavy as I am hoping to get some shots with the wind blowing in her face. However, I do want her skin to look flawless with no signs of impurity's.

My photo shoot evaluation At the beginning of my photoshoot planning I felt slightly lost. As I had already down two photoshoots in the past for my collection I found it hard to think and plan more to create something completely different. After pitching the few ideas I had with the group and telling them about my struggle they gave me some interesting ideas. As my colour scheme for my collection is pink and black I should stick with this theme. They reassured me how strong my identity and concept was because of these chosen colours and it would only be right to carry this through to the end. They also suggested two types of location. One that was very natural with neutral toned back ground colours, for example a park or old building. This was so that my clothes were the complete main focus of the shoot and the contrast would help them stand out. Another suggested was either Archie's or kaspas, these both are American styled dinners in the city centre that specialise in deserts. They are both fully decorated using only the colours pink and black, this would help them whole shoot key into my collection and would be really eye catching on the pages. I contracted these two diners constantly through email and calling, none of the times they answered. I decided on the morning of the shoot I would go to one and ask I person if I could if they both said no then I could fall back to my neutral toned background. I asked one of my team members to meet me in the city centre early before the group shoot at 12 so that I could use her professional camera due to me not having one. The time I was meant to be meeting her she let me down and messaged me explaining why she could not come early and that she would also be late for the group shoot. This meant that I had to re arrange when I was doing my shoot as I had no camera to shoot with. I also had trouble with my model. I selected one of the models that had contacted the group email. She has a platinum blonde bob which I felt was really quirky and edgy like my collection. She agreed to the time and date that was set and two days before the group shoot cancelled. As it was a group shoot I could not rearrange the time or date as it would mean having to change around everyone. Therefore I had to find another model who I could definitely rely on. One of my sisters friends had done some modelling in the past and was up for doing it for me, she also lived local to myself which meant I could pick her up on the way so that there was no cancellations and I was as organised as I could be. My model Molly also had a very edgy, unique look. She added a lot of fierceness and power into my collection with her facial expressions and body language I was extremely pleased. The location that I decided on was the same location as the group shoot. This was due to after a group discussion we thought I would help the magazine flow more if some of the photoshoots throughout the magazine had the same consistent backdrop like the front cover and group shoot. I took some images using the brick wall back drop and some in the garden area to add some colour. Overall, I was extremely happy with the over all shoot I felt I had handled all the issues I come across with a professional manner and found the solutions quickly. My personal photoshoot image quality had high definition and was very clear, due to me another team member letting me use there professional camera. However I am upset that this quality is not shown in the magazine as it is the main purpose of my photoshoot, for the model to communicate with the reader and create the feeling of my collection. Which is a strong, fierce, feminist.

Fashion film evaluation The plan that the group was told by the two team members who took reasonability for this task seemed very organised and under control. They planned to come to everyone's individual shoot and get footage there, while also gaining footage from the group shoot in which they organised the dates, time and location. When we arrived at the shoot one of the two team members who was in charge of the fashion film had left the country, which I personally felt was very unfair on the group. However, they did send a friend to the shoot do complete her task for her. We believed that her friend was aware of what she needed to do during the shoot as we thought that the team member who sent her in her place would of filled her in with what she organised. The other team member who was there paired up with the other team members friend and completed the task in what they wanted to look like and the direction they had planned. Half of the footage was filmed on a camera and the some of a team members phone. This again I did not believe was planned or very professional as the group wanted the quality of the fashion film to be as good as we could get it. However, I believed that the team members in charge of the fashion film got the footage they wanted as they finished the group shoot off. They did not attend anyone's personal photoshoot’s like planned therefore I thought they might of changed the direction of there film. Once the fashion film was being completed we asked the two team members if they could involve the group in a meeting to see were they was up to and weather they was up to date. During the meeting the explained that they did not have enough footage due to the group not giving the friend who was sent any direction. However, the group was not told about any of this as we all believed the team member would of told her friend what she needed to do and what outcome needed to be achieved. Therefore, we all helped plan a second shoot for them to gain more footage. With the footage that was gained I believe the fashion film is the best it can be. I am extremely pleased with the music choice as I feel it gives the fashion film much more depth and brings the footage to life. I also was really intrigued by the middle section were all the models walk towards camera and then it is reversed backwards. This was very cleverly done to match the rhythm of the music. I do not really appreciate the end section containing the second shoot footage as I believe it does not flow with the rest of the context. Maybe if there was more of this footage from the second shoot, it would help connect more with the other footage within the fashion film.

Magazine Evaluation The photoshoot for the magazine in class seamed very organised and in order from the team mates who was in charge of this section. The explained to the class what they wanted the over all front and back cover to look like, arranged the times dates and location. On the day the plan was to film footage for the fashion film while all the models were together at one location and also photos so that we could choose the best for the magazine. All the photo’s were taken on a high Tec camera which was brought by another team member. However, on the day some team members models did not turn up meaning that they was not able to be part of the shoot or fashion film. One team member had brought two models to the shoot however they wanted both to be wearing her garments therefore there was nothing else that we could do to help the two team members out who did not have models. Another team member turned up to model for themselves, which was not the overall idea for the magazine, due to us all agreeing to have professional models of a similar age range to represent our magazines target market. But, as we already had two team members not being able to display there garments we did not want a third to miss out. This meant that the covering images did not have the selected models agreed by the group. At the start of the shoot the direction did not seem very planned or in order, therefore some other team members had to help out to get the shoot in full flow. I was really pleased with the over all images produced by the team and the selected images chosen by the group for magazine to contain. I feel that they have produced the best that they could due to the circumstances that happened on the day and the lack on planning and organisation that there was. We planned as a class to send the magazine off no later than Monday 24th April, this was to ensure delivery before the deadline. We all each created our own ten pages for the magazine, one team member created the intro page and the section pages and another team member took reasonability for the end page and sending off of the magazine. This team member took a long time to put the magazine in the order it needed to be off and used the wrong format in which the rest of the group told her to use. This was due to her feeling more comfortable and confident in the other software, than book wright which is the soft wear that company we sent our magazine of to, suggested we use for the best quality. Two days after the magazine was suppose to be sent off and when the group through it already had been, the team member I charge of this messaged the group and said that it had still not been complete and she could not complete the task. Thankfully there was another team member who had access to a computer at that time who took over this responsibility and it was sent off Wednesday 26th April.

When the magazine arrived the quality was not as we exspected. Most of the pages are really blurred and pixelated, on some pages it is even impossable to read the writing. As one of the team members said that she fully quality controled the magazine and all the elements we did not exspect this. However, we have come to the conclusion that it is due to the right suggested soft wear not being used. This is due to myself and two other team members using this soft wear for our presonal ten pages and the condition of our pages being a much higher quality than the others. The team work for this magazine could of been handled and controled much better than it was and I believe it is a group mistake. We should of all made sure that the right software was used for the magazine and not left this task to a team member who does not attend the sesions as regularly as others and does not feel comfortable using the correct software.

Quote display making

These are the quote boxes which I created for the social media pages. Myself and Georgia narrowed them down to our three favourites.

Quote display making – selecting I felt this one created a very strong presence with the logo of the brand being right in the centre. While still having a lot of white space for the actual quote to go inside.

This one again had a strong brand presence as the logo was much bigger than the other two. However we was worried in case the quotes would be to small for this style.

This one is the same as the first however the logo is on the right. We was worried in case the quote covered some of the logo. However, we do not feel the brands presence is as strong here as it is in the corner.

Social media evaluation In the end I was extremely proud of the social media pages that was created by myself and Georgia. The pages look very professional and of a high standard just like our competitions pages. The planning and preparation that we set ourselves helped a lot and I feel this was one of the main reasons why the over all look of the pages is to a high quality. We worked extremely well as a team and was able to set each other individual bits to get on with while we was both in and out side of class. I managed to get at least three different images on the Instagram for each member in the class to show case different parts of there abilities, this included there line up, an illustration and a photo shoot image. Unfortunately, two team members did not give me any of there work to post after asking repeatedly which I wasn't pleased with as I wanted everyone's work to be showcased at least once within the social media pages. The pages really helped us gain acknowledgement and most of all models. It was here we're we received the most model responses and requests. The group also seemed really pleased with the pages. I asked every week if anyone would like certain things of there putting up and if the pages needed anything different adding to them. One team member noticed that some of the posts were slightly pixelated. After investigating we realised that it was the method in which we was adding the white boarders around the images. This meant we changed the way we did this and the images were reposted much more clear and better quality. I felt well suited for this role and extremely enjoyed it. I was open to the constructive criticism off the class to help the social media pages be the best that they could be and so that everyone was pleased with them.

@spectrumfd17 #spectrumfd17

Evaluation of promotional pack The overall look and condense of the press pack I am really pleased with. Considering the budget we had due to some team members not taking part in contributing I feel we have all as a group done extremely well. The whole branding is extremely strong and very identifiable. It is consistent throughout every individual piece and helps them all join into one package. For all the pieces apart from the magazine the quality is of a very high standard and looks really professional. I feel the team members who were given certain parts within this press pack have worked really hard. This shows in the over all outcome. We did have even more ideas for the press pack and found the possibility's endless. However, we budgeted well which made the condense of the press pack have more than enough pieces in rather than one or two really extensive ones.

Fashion show planning We planned our magazine and programmes to be in the same order as the fashion show line up to keep it all constant and not confusing for the audience. This order was – Elemental Megan Rue Georgia McGee Tracey Wilson Laura Arnold Decadent Drama Lyndsey Makrigannis The Wanderer Nadia Mohammed Lauren James Laura Mar Urban Activist Megan Connolly Alice Tallulah

As we only have two full outfits and have to share models, due to the college not allowing us to have any other models that our from outside the college and also us not being able to select any models until the day of the show we made a plan to make each section longer. This was so that there was more time for each model to get ready and it be more organised and less rushed. Our plan was to play our group fashion film first and then before each collection went out have our own personal fashion films play for our collections. This way it would be much easier for everyone to help back stage change each model. We also all agreed on having the same hair and make up. Although this is not what we all wanted it would help a lot while changing each model if we all had the same style. The goodie bags what we created would be for the front row only and our friends and family who come to the show. This would give the goodie bags much more exclusivity and help to promote our brand massively.
