Katie Grand Katie Grand grew up in Birmingham. She discovered fashion at 12. At secondary school she stated her strongest subjects were Maths, History and English. On deciding her career, she said, "around fifteen I decided that I wanted to do something in art or fashion", so she began taking night classes at the local college in sculpture, life drawing, jewelry making and pottery to improve her design skills. After completing sixth form, Grand began a foundation course at Birmingham's Bournville College of Art, where she was named Student of the Year, achieving 96%. Katie Grand then moved on to Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design where she found it hard to settle on a single subject—"I tried design, marketing, journalism, knitwear... and ended up doing print, which I still find weird.“Named by British newspaper The Daily Telegraph as "one of the most powerful stylists in the world", Katie began fashion styling while still at St. Martins, directing and styling fashion shoots for newly launched magazine, Dazed & Confused in the 1990s. She was later bought by style magazine The Face as Fashion Director. Soon after this, Grand was made Editor-in-Chief of POP, a launched bi-annual fashion magazine. This position brought Grand many friendships, including with celebrities Madonna and Agyness Deyn, and designers Stella McCartney, Luella Bartley, Miuccia Prada and Giles Deacon. She infamously convinced actress Elizabeth Hurley to pose nude on the cover of POP, just six weeks after giving birth. Katie is the editor of LOVE, a bi-annual fashion magazine she launched herself. Mixing Different Textures and Patterns

Mixing different textures and patterns is a fabulous way to create more variety in your outfits, giving your outfit an interesting depth which is definitely a must if you want to take Mixing large patterns can empower your outfit and make you look wider. How ever they can look really a more individualistic and personal approach to dressing.

Vary the scale of the patterns

Same colour family Your patterns should share the same colour scheme. Or a print that has atleast one of the colors of the other print.

bold an can flatter your body sometimes you can out medium and large patterns together its can make your outfit look to busy.

Break it up a bit

By using bold solid colour this breaks your outfit up,Its makes the outfit look more fun, balanced and modern. Basic wide belts, jackets and hosiery are great for this.

Don’t go too matchy-matchy Similar polka dot patterns on head and toe make it look like you’re overly confined to fashion rules. As if your outfit is too well-thought and predictable. It just isn't exciting to look at. Add a few surprises by wearing different types of prints and textures.

Evaluation For my future trend I have chosen Practical Salvage AW16/17. This is when embellishments turns rough but still feels considered and luxurious. ‘’Where elegance and femininity undercut with an edge of harshness and fantasy”, WGSN.com. To reflect the Practical salvage trend I chosen to make a mask full of screws and bolts to represent the harshness. Also I chosen my model she had shaved purple /silver hair also had piercing to fit in for my trend. I also chosen the clothes for my photo shoot i had my model to wear a net cat suit, Alexandra McQueen oversized jumper, a orange skirt with wire in to make it look puffy, also I used rope to get the dark harshness effect. For my location I was in a studio I had a bare wall projected in to a white background so it looked more effective I also used props for example I used manikins , orange plastic and rope. I chose to Target my styled towards Innovators but with a touch of luxury. To target the innovator I created a conceptual styled look rather than a commercial everyday wear look I used the mask to represent the innovator look because that is unique and stands out also you wouldn’t wear this everyday. For the luxury side of my shoot I used brand clothing which made this shoot affluent but I put a twist on it and but the two together so its high end fashion with a twist of unique and harshness to the shoot. I edited my images so they stand out and look really bold and dark, I have edited them so you can see a lot of detail on the mask and makes it stand out and I also moved shapes of the picture so it look pixelated, also I faded to pictures together to make my front cover of my magazine. I chosen Faint for my magazine because there images are bold unique and they fit in with a innovator shoot also it has high end fashion in it. Faint has many conceptual editorials that communicate strong messages, I feel like my shoot fits in because of the strong conceptual feel to it. I researched in to innovator to see how the model was styled that’s were I got inspired to make a mask for my shoot. For my mood boards I got many of pictures to I had lots of different ideas before I actually done my shoot. At home I experimented on myself with some make up before I do my shoot. I was really pleased with my photo shoot it went better than I expected my model was really understanding with what styled shoot I was going for and she under stud how I wanted her to pose. I had no problems with my shoot the only thing I would do if I could do it again I would bring more clothes maybe do more dramatic make up an I would also like to take some of the photos outside .
