I am currently working on a year long thesis focused on the realignment of the Welsh coastline.

The Shoreline Management Plan, a high-level policy for the management of coastal flooding and erosion, has identified 130 communities in England and Wales for managed realignment over the next century. This would require the inland relocation of residents and infrastructure at a scale previously unseen in the UK. The first community is outlined for relocation by 2055, however, a strategy for resettlement is yet to be proposed at either a local or national level.

Responding to the absence of an actionable plan, my research aims to identify spatial strategies for the implementation of the Shoreline Management Plan, using the first village scheduled for relocation as a case study.

SHORT-TERM HOLD THE LINE

MEDIUM-TERM MANAGED REALIGNMENT

RELOCATION OF COMMUNITY AND ALL INFRASTRUCTURE

NO ACTIVE INTERVENTION

FAIRBOURNE RETURNED TO TIDAL SALT MARSH
