Steam Sauna

58

Vigor The gym utilizes four of ideabox’s prefab homes and reimagines the spaces to accomodate four separate spaces; two locker rooms and a workout core space with workout equipment, open group work out room for yoga, tai-chi, aerobics or dance classes. The user enters into the lobby space and walks through a desert landscape into their gender’s locker room where the concept of the space is like a rainforest. The steam sauna is where the rainforest effect can be felt most. the glass ceiling opens to the sky and the copper wave forms create a shade element above the glass. When the steam rises, its trapped by the glass ceiling that will then allow the condensation to run down the acrylic walls like a gentle rain storm in the rain forest. The acrylic walls are embossed panes of acrylic with an abstract design etched into the glass so the condensation drips from one area to another; like water on leaves.

Integration The clubhouse utilizes four ideabox homes and creates two separate structures. These structures are connected by a trellis system that covers the central dining area. The clubhouse is meant to be a multifunctional space that can be utilized as it is designed in the floor plan or can be designed for small or large gatherings. Within the lounge area of the clubhouse, an interior lounge area is centered between two nana wall systems so that it stays connected to the exterior spaces. Behind the lounge is a small quiet area for reading and browsing the internet. In the very back of the building is the integration space where high school students come to learn how to prepare meals and serve their creations to the residents of the senior community.
