team25
Welcome to Team25! All of the incredible young people in this zine have taken part in Princes Trust’s 12-week personal development team programme, They’ve taken part for a variety of reasons; to gain new skills, earn a qualification, and meet new people. During their time on the team they’ve been challenged to: >>take on their own group community project, making a positive difference to the place where they live >>take part in an action packed residential trip >>get two weeks’ work experience in something they were interested in >>develop their English and Maths skills >>develop their interview and CV skills >>And last, but not least they’ve created this magazine! They worked with Alice & Chani from Plantation Productions to put together everything you see and read here, in their very own zine! They took and edited photographs, created artwork, researched, shared their ideas and experiences, conducted interviews, designed their pages...all the time having some pretty top banter.

G a l o c Ni Nicola is the team leader for the Programme and loves getting to know the young people from the very beginning to end. She has a reputation of being a bit of a legend amongst her previous young people from Team, and never loses touch with anyone when the programme ends. Nicola offers a lifetime of unlimited support and advice, and that is something all the young people can use at some point in their future. When asked what she enjoys most about the programme Nicola couldn’t pick out a single moment, but instead says that she loves each day the same, as it is all working towards the final day when we get to see how far everyone has come over the full 12 weeks. She can’t put into words how proud she is of each and every young person, and again can’t wait to see what they all achieve in their lives.
Lee-Ann is a 4th year student from the University of Strathclyde, who joined Team 25 as a work placement. She has worked in various care sector roles over the past 10 years, and is hoping to graduate with a masters degree in Social Work in the next 2 years. Lee-Ann loves getting to know the young people, and learning all of the tricks for makeup and fitness that they have to offer. Her favourite part of Team 25 was the residential trip, where the whole group got to know each other and properly bonded. Canoeing was one part that made her laugh so much, and she loved evening face pack and chill sessions with the with the girls. Lee-Ann can’t wait to see where all of the Team end up, as she knows how incredible they all are, and the potential each one of them has to make something absolutely amazing of their lives. She is behind them 100% in any decisions they make.
Kerry Campbell Kerry “Jaffa” Campbell is a 16 year old ‘Pretty Little Liars’ obsessive from Glasgow. Seriously, she’s watched all 20 episodes, of all 7 series, at least 12 times - and isn’t bored of it yet! When she isn’t binge-watching PLL, Kerry likes drawing, painting, going to the cinema and getting a lot of sleep. She also likes animals and would love to work in a zoo. The other team members describe Kerry is a “living legend” and someone who “makes everyone smile at least once a day”. “What I have enjoyed most about Team 25 of Princes Trust is making new friends, and meeting new people along the way. We all have our ups and downs, but we always find a way to move on and smile. What I liked most about Team 25 is the residential, because everyone was having a laugh and getting on. There was so much drama going on but that’s what made it 10x better. Although there was drama we didn’t let it get to us. I miss residential and Stoves so much!”

Joie is a 16 year old music lover. Her nickname in the team is ‘Red’. Maybe from her piercings you might be thinking she is all about rock, and metal. But her passion for listening, learning, and singing takes her from metal, through to pop, and all the way to the broadway shows. During her time in the team Joie has decided that she would like to be a dog handler. She realised this during the group’s visit to an army base. She is best described as being ‘totally sound’ by the other team members. “After spending time with everyone in the team, despite being nervous as this was my first time meeting these new people, I became friends with them all, we’ve done a lot of different workshops and activities. We went on residential where we did team building activities, Archery, wall climbing, canoeing, low rope courses & had a bonfire and soon will be doing fire reach. I have really enjoyed my time here so far.”
h KYLE 'BIKE' SMITH Kyle 'bike' Smith is a 16 year old bike fiend from Duke street in glasgow. He loves riding, fixing and building bikes and he's planning on building his career around his passion. Kyle did work experience in Philip Lang cycles, a small family run bike shop in glasgow. He says it was very good and enjoyable, and he learned a lot about bikes.

GRIPHOUSE TRIANING GYM “Griphouse is a gym that trains different types of MMA like Kick Boxing, Muay Thai, wrestling and etc. They are very friendly and hardworking people, that help others to train. I went there on my work placement and they showed me a lot of moves and positions so I can defend myself against attackers. The owner is called Guy Ramsay. He was so nice to let me train there, and he was generally a very nice person that shows respect to everyone. Guy trains Muay Thai fighters. The staff are really respectful and help you learn different punches, kicks, and positions, to be the strongest fighter you can be.”

Kendall is a hidden gem with a passion for hair and makeup. She would love to work in the beauty field and had an amazing time completing her work placement at Revival Retreat in Glasgow. Everyone loves how kind she is, and the girls are always in awe at how flawless she looks with her amazing fashion. Down to earth and so kind hearted, it would be hard to find someone as amazing as her. Throughout this team programme she has pushed herself every day and achieved far more than she ever imagined. When on residential Kendal tried everything, and was a key part of the team. She gave it her all and has excelled in all that she has done.

Katie Katie is the fab girl that looks AMAZING in whatever she wears. She is so natural and pulls off almost any outfit or look. Kindhearted, smiling, and genuine are some of the words the team use to describe her, and she has come on leaps and bounds since starting the team programme. She embraced Residential, and enjoyed trying all the different activities. Everyone is so excited to see where she ends up, and what she does with her life.

His gorgeous dog Marley the German Shepherd became the team’s mascot at the trip to Wiston.

Maria ‘Eyes’ Maguire is a 16 year old insta-model from Glasgow. She is not sure whether to pursue a career as a nursery teacher or make-up artist. If her childcare abilities are anything like her self taught make-over skills she will have a difficult decision to make! Maria found confidence canoeing at Wiston and loved feeling part of a team. The rest of the team describe her as kind and quiet, with perfect hair - even whilst skiing!

Jordan is 16 and all about fashion and football. The rest of the team would describe him as chatty, kind, and Rangers obsessed. When the team went to Wiston Lodge Jordan was the fastest to climb 20ft, in 30 seconds! He has made good pals with everyone in the team. Jordan did his work experience in House of Frasers, which he thought was ok. In the future he would like to

“hard work, with a lot of ups and downs” We did an interview with Chris Miller, a football player for St Johnstone. Chris is 34 and has played at the club for 10 years, and he said it flew in. Chris started playing for his local team at age 14. He played for Celtic Youth and left school in 5th year. He got a full time contract with Celtic another for 2 years which put him on reserves, and was released from Celtic aged 19 We asked him why he became a footballer. Chris grew up in a family of 5 boys. His father was on the books at Clyde and always told him if you going to a job make sure it a job you like it . Chris’ advice for young people is that football is hard work, with a lot of ups and downs. It’s highs and lows, and you have to make sacrifices you can’t go drinking with mates. You have to be very dedicated and have to try and practice in areas you arent good at and listen to coaches. Penalty Shoot out Questions! Dream Team to play for? Manchester United Favourite Pitch? Old Trafford (Manchester United) and Wembley - “it’s a cracking pitch”. World wide: Camp Nou (Barcelona) and the Bernabeu (Real Madrid) Worst. Pitch. Ever? Albion Rovers pitch - it’s run down and the surface isn’t the best Football Hero? Chris’ first response was Henrik Larsson - but then he said his dad even though he didn’t play professionally he always supported him. Footballing Nemesis? Steven Davies - he is an fantastic player, and Scott Brown too. Can you speak any languages? Spanish, because he visits Spain a lot. Who is going to win the league? Celtic*
*Jordan would respectfully disagree with this.
wiston lodge Wiston Lodge in Biggar is a fantastic place for a residential week during the team programme. It provides a safe and sheltered setting for young people, where they are able to develop respect for themselves, others, and their environment. Young people are encouraged to take part in team building activities in which they push themselves to complete tasks they never imagined they would. Whilst at Wiston lodge, Stobie (Stovies) helped us all realise our potential and was a fantastic leader whilst encouraging us to participate in various activities such as crate games, canoeing, rock climbing, midnight walks, building fires, high rope climbing and much, much more. This was a week that none of us will forget. We bonded as a team, got to know each other, laughed more than we thought was possible. We all stripped back to our true selves, and worked on becoming confident in ourselves whilst improving general life-skills. It was an experience that we are sure none of us will forget, and was amazing to see everyone shine and show of their capabilities.

Whilst on residential we assisted Stobie who was creating the ‘Path for Little People’ - which has been designed for young kids with autism. We built bridges to make the path safe, and helped to create a ‘stumpery’ which will form part of a fairy garden. The path is partly being funded by the National Lottery. Our help means that they are on target to finish by their deadline.

At Wiston Lodge we had good fun, and did different activities like canoeing, archery etc. The day we left we had to pack up and say goodbye to all the staff, and thanks for letting us stay for 3 days. We had amazing and fun times. The best thing was archery. I think it was very relaxing. You need to concentrate on the target and make sure everyone is behind you, so no one gets hurt.
1 Marley Marley became our mascot during our trip to Wiston Lodge. She is Connor’s 11 month old German Shepherd.
out and about in the community Glasgow City Mission A charity who helps homeless people in Glasgow. As a group we organised the food store, and created parcels for homeless children and families to access during difficult times. The work we completed allowed staff to focus on supporting clients and enabled them to complete the project quickly and efficiently. We created food parcels and walked round Glasgow handing them out taking time to talk to people, find out stories, and offer support. This project made us realise how important it is to help others, to be kind, and never judge. Fire Reach with SFRS We had the opportunity to take part in a fire reach program with Scottish Fire and Rescue service. We worked as a team to overcome challenges, solve problems and develop skills. Over the course we covered first aid, team work, health and safety, and supporting the community to raise awareness of fire safety. We developed skills in leadership, working as part of a team and challenged ourselves emotionally, physically and mentally. This was an amazing experience which helped us gain confidence, become more motivated to succeed, and feel proud of our achievements.
p
Woodlands Community Garden We went and helped this organisation who supports their local community. We created flower beds which will be used to promote environmental sustainability. The project relies heavily on the volunteers to carry out their work. Our assistance allowed members to get on with other important work.
