100 Line Drawings By Meghan Conway

Craft To create my 100 line drawings I used Adobe Illustrator. I used a pad and pen instead of my mouse and the paintbrush tool. After I opened a new page, I chose 5 different cups to draw. I began by making the outline and filling it in afterwards. Each ‘cup’ is made up of exactly 100 lines.

Composition Each picture is composed of lines. The only color I used was black. I used straight and angled lines in different lengths to make each drawing. I chose to use lines because that was the assignment.

Concept The concept I tried to convey in my drawings was the object itself. I drew a wine glass, a martini glass, a coffee cup, a red solo cup and a water bottle.

Flower

By Meghan Conway With my drawing of the flower I used a very plain background paired with a colorful and busy flower to make the flower the main focus. I tried to shade in all of the open space and to use lines of different thickness. I also outlined each of the petals. The eyedropper tool was very useful here because without it I would not have been able to find the purple hues I used previously. The flower is just a purple flower. I chose the color purple because it is my favorite color and looked good for a monochromatic image.

Farm

By Meghan Conway To begin this assignment I pasted a picture of a storm on a farm so I could trace it. I used the layers tool and began working from the background forward. In other words, I did the sky first, then the grass, then the trees, then the farm, and lastly the fence. I used the pen tool to make each shape. The most points I used the more precise the object was. To get colors that matched the image I found online I used the eyedropper tool. The farm is suppose to draw the eye because its red color makes it pop against the rest of the neutral colors I used. I detailed the farm more than the rest of the objects to help make it the main focus as well. I also made sure to use plenty of different colors in the sky so the viewer is able to recognize that it is about to storm. For this drawing I just wanted to convey a storm on a farm.

Moon

By Meghan Conway My moonlight drawing is suppose to draw the viewers eyes to the moon. It is the biggest and brightest object in there. I added more shades of purple and green to give the effect of shadows. I also switched up the size of the pen tool to give it more depth. The moon is suppose to resemble a beautiful big moon, like those times when the moon looks almost fake. I originally was going to make sunset but decided to only use cool colors and it made for a darker image, almost resembling nighttime.

Balloons By Meghan Conway

When making this drawing I chose the colors blue and orange because the are complementary and therefore look good together. What I added to my balloons was shading. I did this to make it look more realistic and to show shadows. I tried to find every shade of blue and orange and if I had to go back to a certain color to add more of it I would use the eye dropper tool. With my balloons, I was hoping the shading would make them pop out of the light blue background even more. The balloons are suppose to symbolize a happy situation.

Value Drawings By Meghan Conway

Craft I used Adobe Illustrator to create these next few images. I used a pad and pen, along with the paintbrush tool. I started each drawing by making an outline of them. I decided to draw a tea kettle, a coffee cup and a vase. I used black, different shades of gray and white in the photos of the coffee cup and tea kettle but only black in the photo of the vase. I used different shades or amount of color in different locations to show the depth in each object because they were all sitting underneath a studio lamp.

Composition When looking at these photos, you are supposed to first see the places where the colors are most dramatic. By seeing the different shades, you are suppose to be able to tell where the light was reflected on each object.

Concept The concept in these drawings is the object itself. The first drawing is of a tea kettle. On the next two pages you will find drawings of a Starbucks cup and then a vase. Underneath is a screen shot of how the tea pot looked on Adobe Illustrator.

Nursing By Meghan Conway

Craft To create my infographic I used Adobe Illustrator. I traced three photos that I found on the internet and then began to add data. All of it was based around nursing. I added a graph so there wasn’t as much text and I decided to go with a white background to give it a ‘sterile’ look. Lastly, I added my name and some bibliographical information on the bottom. Composition The first thing one should see on my infographic is the clipboard. I added a stethoscope and the word nursing to make it pop even more. Even though it is not in the center it is the biggest item on the page. The next thing that is suppose to draw the eye is the outline of the U.S. I kept everything red, tan, and black to bring it all together. Context The context is about general information about nurses. It could be used to inform undergrads who are unsure on what degree to pursue. It is suppose to easy to read and look at.

Basketball By Kyle Huppe

In my basketball on the floor drawing, my lightt source came from the top of the picture, this enabled me to put the shadow at the bottom of the basketball. My eyes are drawn to the light spot on the top of the ball initially, but then they drift to the shadow toward the bottom of the page.

Court Shot By Kyle Huppe

My barn drawing (Complimentary Colors) I began with drawings the boards of the barn. I liked the idea of them not being completely straight to show some wear and tear. I then made the green backboard. After that I added some texture to the boards and to the backboard to give it a grainy effect. Lastly, I added the rim and the net, which I think pop really well, and draw all of the attention.

Tennis By Eric West

I first took the paintbrush tool and made my font size 14 and my point rounded then I drew a circle in the middle of the page in green. Then I went back to normal font size and drew in the line for the tennis ball with an extremely light shade of green, almost yellowish. After this was done, I began to draw my background. I drew lines of dark green in a few different directions, I filled in the three large triangles I made with dark green. then the rest with a light green, almost yellow. After that, I went to a different point style for the paintbrush tool, selected a semi-darker hue of green than what I already had on the tennis ball, and shaded it in a little bit. I did the same with the background. When I look at this picture I first see a tennis ball. After seeing the ball, I see the tennis court in the background. The last thing I notice is that the picture is created from different shades of green. I arranged it like this because that’s how the picture look but also to create my monochromatic drawing.

Phoenix By Sean Barry

For the bird I went in and grabbed the eye dropper tool and selected one of the reds in the bird. I then made that red darker and went over the bottom left side of the bird. Lastly, I selected the shading tool and zoomed in and created a shadow around the bottom and left side of the bird with a very dark orange hue. For my bird the criticisms were that there wasn’t enough detail to show lighting and shadows. So I decided to put in darker streaks of red on the bottom next to some shadows in order to portray that light was coming from the top right. For my bird when I look at it I see the whole bird but then I see the darker streaks at the bottom and the shadows right next to it.

Apples By Sean Barry

Craft I first drew out the figures of the apples and colored them in in the solid base color they are. Next, I did the background layers with the two greens and with a third green i went over the background with lines. Finally I found lighter and darker shades of red and green and went over the apples a second time to give it value. Compostition First thing I see when i look at this is the red apple. Following that i see the green one. Then I notice the background and how it accents the red apple making it almost pop and become the main focus of the drawing. This is an example of complementary colors. Concept When drawing the apples I tried to express them in a way that would make them the focus of the artwork and with the complementary color scheme that was the best way to do it. It’s supposed to make you feel the popping of the red apple, thats what I tried to symbolize.

Flower By Eric West

Craft First I began drawing the outline of my flower in blue. Then, I drew some pedals between the pedals in a lighter hue of red. Next, I colored in the big pedals green and used different shades of green. Then I filled in the smaller pedals with darker hues of red. Finally, I drew a line across the width of the page in a dark blue, then filled the bottom half of the page in with that blue. On the top I used a lighter hue of blue. Then I drew some lines in each of the blues to add some texture. Compostion When I look at this picture first, I see a flower. Then I see all the cool colors that made the flower. Lastly, I see that the picture is kind of sad and droopy. I arranged it this way to create my cool color drawing. Concept When drawing this flower, I tried to create an image that was slightly sad; a sad flower. This is supposed to give you a feel of all the cool colors with a droopy flower. It symbolized a flower.

Athlete Salaries By Kyle Huppe

Craft When creating this infographic I first started by opening a new Adobe Illustrator document. After that I inserted my three illustrations that I had done previously. Once all of my illustrations were in, I began to add my data to the document. Once I had that on the page, I began positioning my images and text into a format that I thought worked well for my particular topic. Next I chose a color scheme. I decided to go for sort of a smooth and sleek look, which I thought turned out very nicely. Lastly, I added my bibliographical information and proceeded to print out my finished project. Composition The first thing I see when I look at this image is probably the images themselves, starting in the middle with Floyd Mayweather and working my way to the sides of the page. I next go to the words “Top 10 in red. After that I drift to the rest of the title and then systematically work my way from the top of the page to the bottom. My initial idea for this was to have my images draw the initial attention of the viewer and then take their eyes to the information after that. Context The context that this image is put in is a sporty one. My topic was the Top 10 Highest Paid Athletes to date, and I think I presented this in a way that is very informative, but at the same time easy to read.

Caffeine By Sean Barry

Craft I made my infographic using Adobe Illustrator. I began by opening up the program on the computer. Next I copy and pasted my trace drawings into a tabloid sized blank document. Then I started making the boxes that information and the illustrations would go in. Once I had the drawings arranged how I wanted them i began putting in my data in the boxes sorted out for them. After putting in all my data I went to a website called dafont.com and downloaded a font that i liked and put in on my infographic. Lastly I copy and pasted my bibliographical information on the bottom of it then printed it out. Composition First thing I see when I look at this is the monster can and the Starbucks cup. After I notice the graph and then the title. Next I notice the text on the right side of the infographic because it sticks out better against the green better then the left side. The text on the left side is what I notice next followed by the bibliography information. My intention was to have the facts stick out just as well as the trace drawings and though the text doesn’t grab the attention as effectively as the drawings I think it still does a good job of grabbing attention. Concept The idea was to put information on the infographic that was relevant and interesting to students my age. I tried to use a color scheme that was easy on the eyes but still interesting enough to grab someones attention. The infographic is informative and interesting.

Homelessness By Eric West

Craft I made this infographic using Adobe Illustrator. I began by copying and pasting my previously traced drawings onto a blank document that was tabloid sized. I used my homeless woman one as the background. I added the homeless man I traced to the other side of the building. After adding the images and placing the where I wanted, I began to add my data. After completing all of my data, I went to a website and downloaded fonts to put on my infographic. Lastly, I added my bibliographical information on the bottom then printed it out. Composition The first thing I see when I look at this infographic is the percentage about the females and then the woman below her. After I notice the woman and the fact above her, I notice the building background and then the man sitting to the side of it. Next, I notice the word “Chicago and then my eyes read the entire title. After all of this then I notice the smaller printed facts. My intent was to have people first notice the two facts in the middle of the page about male and female then to notice the two images below the facts. Concept The context put into this image is sad, droopy, bland. My topic was Homelessness in Chicago so I believe I represented this well seeing as homelessness isn’t the happiest of subjects. This infographic is easy to read and informative.

“Learn the rules like a pro so you can break them like an artist” -Pablo Picasso

My name is Meghan Conway and I am student at St.Xavier University. I’m currently 21 years old and live in Mokena, IL. I am studying to become a nurse and I plan on graduating in December 2017. This is my first class of computer graphics. Before taking this class I would never of known I was capable of creating a magazine. Learning about Adobe Indesign and Adobe Illustrator taught me so much (including patience and confidence!) I thoroughly enjoyed this class as well. I hope someday you get the opportinity to learn about these softwares like I was able to while designing #CREATE.
