INSTITUTIONAL DESIGN University San Francisco Satellite Campus Site: 22nd & Telegraph, Oakland Ca

After programming a satellite USF campus our team broke up and as individuals, we each designed an Institutional building. This structure is a combination of classrooms for both the community as well as USF, workspaces, and library.

How do our homes help us live healthy and productive lives? The movement felt in the shapes of these dwellings, as well as the transitional spaces used to break up the two-story townhouses, signifies the changes we embrace in our lives.

ArcGIS for Architecture Mapping Emotional Reaction To The Built Environment San Francisco Map Perimeter ( includes some surrounding areas) West and East Streets: Masonic Av, Divisadero St North and South Street: Turk St and Oak St

This map was created by taking individually marked GPS points, tagged on mobile devices to create a map of emotional responses to the built environment. Inspired by Yodan Rofe and Christopher Alexander, I aimed at mapping different atmospheres found in the neighborhood I live in. As Alexander describes the search for “.. a quality without the name that arises when there is an excellent fit between a context and the pattern that resolves all the functional, social and psychological conflicts that arise in it (Alexander, 1979)”. I set forward a group of friends with their phones telling them to mark, with a GPS tracking app, areas of comfort and discomfort. Comparing the findings to other maps including, vegetation, road systems, built environment, and topography, I felt Yodan Rofe’s conclusion was also proven by the observations of my colleagues. Rofe found that the majority of people’s emotions are reactions to the maintenance of both public and private space. To my surprise after confronting the rather bare city scape that can be found along Masonic Avenue between the Panhandle and Geary St. the city of San Francisco announced improvements being made to the corridor.

Vivendas Leon

internship: Leon, Nicaragua Objective: Map homesteads receiving funding through Viviendas Leon. In order to help track health concerns surrounding water purity. Main concern: How far are latrines and animals from houses, gardens and water supplies? By collecting GPS coordinated with a phone app and then displaying the data with coordinate points- listing specific information for each particular family, as well as images of each of the mapped points.

Our team was asked to spend the semester designing furniture from pallets and making instructions for other to recreate our designs. During my summer internship in Nicaragua, I was able to continue to work on this project with the Vivnedas Leon staff.

Sonoma Millworks Internship: Healdsburg, Ca Drafting furniture shop drawings for Sonoma Mill Works allowed me to grow my love for woodworking. Taking something used and turning it into something new and purposeful is one of the most fulfilling parts of these projects. From sketches given to me by clients and Senior designers I then produced drawings for both the craftsmen and clients.
