If you want to visit a gay friendly and laidback European country, then Sweden and its capital city of Stockholm should be first on your list. Stockholm is made up of fourteen islands connected by 30 bridges. Vacationing there is like going back in time to the city’s medieval origins but with all the benefits of today’s technology. Made up of walking paths and cobblestoned streets, Stockholm is relaxed and its pace is much slower than in America. It’s a pleasant change to see the locals walking and riding their bikes to work. When planning your trip, make sure that you pack a good pair of walking shoes so you can experience some of the natural beauty of Stockholm on foot. SHE - 26 - 11/13
[ DAY 1 ] On the first day, as I arrived in Stockholm at the ARLANDA AIRPORT, all I could think about was the excitement of meeting other friends in LGBT media (and, of course, visiting the ABBA Museum). On the way to the baggage claim, I walked through the “Hall of Fame” - large portraits of Swedish icons from past and present. After taking the 20-minute train ride into the heart of the city, our first stop was breakfast at the Clairon Sign Hotel, within walking distance from the ARLANDA EXPRESS STATION. www.arlandaexpress.se The CLARION SIGN HOTEL is the largest hotel in the city and combines the best of Scandinavian architecture and design. The style of Sweden definitely shows in the unique

furniture in the hotel’s lobby and in the design of the AMERICAN TABLE BRASSERIE that hosted our delicious breakfast. The American Table Brasserie’s communal and intimate style shows in its two large, long tables where you can sit and socialize with new friends or simply dine alone. www.clarionsign.se After breakfast, we moved on to The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk at the ARKITEKTUR & DESIGNCENTRUM. The exhibit details the glamorous career of world famous fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier and is headed to New York next, so don’t miss a chance to see it with your own eyes. www.arkdes.se After the exhibit, we walked by the water, enjoying the peaceful and lush island in the middle of bustling Stockholm, until we arrived at the eco-friendly and award-winning HOTEL SKEPPSHOLMEN. Built from 1699 to 1702, the beautiful and charming 17th century building has all the peace and quiet of a historic home, even though it was created with the purpose of housing Karl XII’s Royal Marines. I really enjoyed the hotel’s restaurant, LANGA RADEN. Both the seafood cuisine and the food presentation were wonderful. www.hotelskeppsholmen.se For our final destination of the day, we walked to the dock and boarded a speedboat and later a sailboat appropriately called “Out.” The ride was fantastic as we enjoyed nature in the middle of the STOCKHOLM ARCHIPELAGO, the largest archipelago in Sweden and the second largest in the Baltic Sea. After enjoying a light snack of coffee and cinnamon rolls SHE - 27 - 11/13
aboard Out, we arrived at ISLAND LODGE, a small, uninhabited island which was once used as a torpedo depot by the Swedish military. The eco-friendly Island Lodge is as close to nature as one can get. There’s no electricity, Internet or phone access on the island, so be sure to factor that into your vacation plans. Even though guests sleep in tents and use porta potties, the tents are spacious with plump beds and luxurious bed linen. Each tent has a great view of the water and the stunning sunset. If you’re a nature girl, you’ll love the natural, sustainable comforts of Island Lodge. www.islandlodge.se [ DAY 2 ] I rose early in the brisk, 30-degree weather to see the gorgeous sunrise through my tent window. We departed from Island Lodge after breakfast to catch the archipelago ferry back to Stockholm. I had just enough time to take a quick shower and change at the 5-star SHERATON HOTEL, located in the very heart of Stockholm’s business district. www. sheratonstockholm.com Our first stop was FOTOGRAFISKA, one of the world’s largest museums for contemporary photography. Fotografiska is located inside Stora Tullhuset, on the docks of Stadsgården in Stockholm. The museum presents four major exhibitions and approximately 20 smaller annual exhibitions. After exploring the museum, we were all ready for a light, organic lunch in the Fotografiska BISTRO, which had a perfect view of Stockholm’s inlet. www.fotografiska.eu It was time to head to the classic and exclusive department store NORDISKA KOM-

from the cover You know her and have heard her amazing voice from American Idol and The Voice and a bunch of news headlines. Now, Frenchie Davis talks to She Magazine about TV, Broadway and coming out as she gets ready to visit South Florida to headline at one of the biggest events for women in the country, Aqua Girl, taking place in Miami Beach, May 15th - 19th. Make sure you bring this issue to get it autographed!
WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER MOST ABOUT THE VOICE AND WORKING WITH CHRISTINA AGUILERA? What I remember most is the amazing friendships I built with the other contestants. I love them like family, and I am forever changed for the better since having them in my life.
YOU’VE ACCOMPLISHED SO MUCH–THE TV SINGING COMPETITIONS, STUDIO ALBUM RELEASES, BROADWAYAND CONCERT TOURS. WHERE DO YOU FEEL MOST COMFORTABLE?
[Laughs] Sometimes, but I accept that it comes with the territory and appreciate the fact that were it not for those two shows, people may not be interviewing me in the first place.
I would say Broadway. I love being on stage.
WHAT’S BEEN THE HARDEST THING ABOUT BEING IN THE CELEBRITY
DOES IT GET ANNOYING AT TIMES TO HAVE THE VOICE AND IDOL COME UP IN, I AM GUESSING, ALMOST EVERY INTERVIEW?
SHE - 20 - 05/13
The loss of privacy. I first entered this business because I genuinely love to sing, and I’m good at it. But, most of the things that come with being in this business have nothing to do with singing at all. It’s strange that people in other professions can work hard to reach their full potential and still have a private life, but artists are expected to relinquish their rights to any privacy whatsoever in exchange for reaching their full potential. It is a bit unfair, but life is too short to be mad about it. So, I just choose to embrace it. I UNDERSTAND YOU CAME OUT TO YOUR MOM AT AGE 16. AS WE CELEBRATE MOTHER’S DAY THIS MAY, CAN YOU EXPAND ON THE RELATIONSHIP WITH HER AS WELL AS YOUR MOM’S SUPPORT IN YOUR LIFE AND IN YOUR COMING OUT PROCESS?
My mother taught me so much about being strong and owning who I am. She was the oldest of six, from a poor family and was the first one in her family to go to college. She marched and protested during the civil rights era. Her life experiences gave her the conviction that she would raise children who would never apologize for who they are. It was actually a bigger deal to the public than it was to my mom. She had many LGBT friends, and she wasn’t really shocked or bothered by it. She simply said “ok” when I told her. [Laughs] She is awesome, and I love her a lot. WE READ IN OTHER INTERVIEWS THAT YOU DECIDED TO PUBLICLY COME OUT BECAUSE OF YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH A WOMAN. WAS THERE SOMETHING SPECIFIC THAT TRIGGERED THE PROCESS,OR DID YOU JUST WANT TO LET EVERYONE KNOW YOU WERE IN LOVE?
Well, I was doing a magazine interview, and the interviewer asked about my love life– wanting to know if I was seeing someone. When I replied “Yes,” he asked if it was a man or a woman. In that moment, I decided that I had to either come out or lie, and I am many things but a liar isn’t one of them. IS SHE STILL YOUR SIGNIFICANT OTHER? I AM SURE OUR READERS WANT TO KNOW, AND WE DO TOO!
Yes! She is! CAN YOU GIVE US SOME INSIGHT ON WHAT IT’S LIKE TO DATE FRENCHIE DAVIS?
[Laughs] I don’t know. My partner can probably answer that alot better than me, but I can tell you that there is a lot of laughter involved and a lot of talking involved. We laugh a lot, and we talk about EVERYTHING. Those are two of my
“THE JOURNEY TO SELFLOVE IS A LIFELONG ONE. THE WORLD IS FULL OF PEOPLE WHO WILL GO OUT OF THEIR WAY TO MAKE YOU FEEL CRAPPY ABOUT YOURSELF, BUT AT SOME POINT YOU HAVE TO TELL YOURSELF, ‘I’M NOT WHAT
OTHER PEOPLE SAY I AM. I AM WHAT GOD SAYS I AM, AND I’M F*CKING AWE SOME!’” favorite things about our relationship. DO YOU FEEL THAT COMING OUT SO PUBLICLY HAS HAD ANY KIND OF IMPACT ON YOUR CAREER IN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER?
Not particularly because most of my loyal fans are LGBT. It probably made my fans love me more. YOU HAVE TALKED ABOUT HOMOPHOBIA WITHIN THE AFRICAN AMERICAN AND BLACK COMMUNITY. WAS THAT AN ISSUE FOR YOU WHEN COMING OUT? DO YOU FEEL THAT HOMOPHOBIA HAS CHANGED A BIT?
It was a huge issue when I came out publicly. It was a big part of the reason that my father was so afraid for me to be out. I think it really came to a head when I did an interview on a black radio show, and they were so cruel and disrespectful. The interview ended with a guy yelling: “Let a man into the bedroom!” It broke my heart because this was a show that I grew up listening to, and before this experience, I had a lot of respect for the host as I considered him a strong voice for the African American community. It was very disappointing. I think it’s slowly changing, but we have a long way to go. I HAVE TO TELL YOU THAT I LOVE YOUR PUBLICITY PHOTOS FROM THE FAR SHOTS TO THE TIGHT SHOTS. I FEEL A SENSE OF PRIDE AND GOOD SELF ESTEEM. WAS IT ALWAYS LIKE THAT FOR YOU?
Oh no. The journey to self-love is a lifelong one. The world is full of people who will go out of their way to make you feel crappy about yourself, but at some point you have to tell yourself, “I’m not what other people say I am. I am what God says I am, and I’m f*cking awesome!” YOU’VE PERFORMED AT A TON OF PRIDE FES-

TIVALS RECENTLY. TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT WHAT IT MEANS TO FEEL THAT KIND OF COMMUNITY SUPPORT?
There are no words to describe what it feels like to do what I love and share my gift with my own community. It feels amazing. WE’VE ALWAYS HEARD THAT BROADWAY HAS ITS CHALLENGES–THE SCHEDULE, THE LIVE AND THE INSTANT AUDIENCE RESPONSE–WHAT DO YOU TAKE AWAY FROM THE EXPERIENCE? Discipline. Eight shows a week will certainly teach you discipline and how to care for your instrument. HOW MUCH INPUT DO YOU LIKE TO HAVE WHEN GOING INTO THE STUDIO WITH A NEW PROJECT?
Lots. I co-write, and I do a lot of vocal arrangements, not only for myself but for other artists as well. WHO WERE SOME OF THE IDOLS YOU HAD WHEN GROWING UP?
Ella, Aretha, Whitney, Sylvester, Grace Jones and Freddie Mercury. WHEN YOU ARE NOT WORKING, WHAT CAN WE FIND YOU DOING FOR FUN?
Hosting dinner parties and game nights for my friends, reading a book at the beach, power walking and teaching voice to my students. YOU’VE HAD SUCH GREAT SUPPORT FROM A NUMBER OF HEAVY HITTERS LIKE ROSIE O’DONNELL. HOW DOES THAT MAKE YOU FEEL?
It feels amazing to be supported and respected by people I respect a great deal. TELL US ABOUT HOW YOU’VE EVOLVED OVER THE PAST 10 YEARS SINCE AMERICAN IDOL.
The short answer is that I’ve grown a lot musically and spiritually. I’ve gotten a lot better at accepting things that I can’t change and busting my ass to change what I can. And that, my friends, is the key to having peace and happiness. THIS MONTH YOU WILL BE AT AQUA GIRL PERFORMING AND MAKING AN APPEARANCE AT THE MIAMI VIP PARTY. WHAT CAN WE EXPECT TO SEE, HEAR AND ENJOY?
I’ve heard of Aqua Girl, but this will be my first time attending. I am really excited about it. People can expect to hear some good singing and music that will make them want to dance. WE LOOK FORWARD TO IT ENJOYING YOUR PERFORMANCE!

Tabatha Coffey has devoted her professional life to achieving excellence as a successful business woman, company owner, hair designer and educator. Drawing on her years of hands-on experience, Tabatha now travels the country helping struggling business owners turn things around for the fifth season of Bravo’s Tabatha Takes Over. With her signature edgy style, tough love approach and exceptional skills as an artist and as a business person, Tabatha’s professional instincts transcend the realm of beauty and give owners and staff the tools they need to create successful businesses. We recently spoke to Tabatha about her 5th season, which just premiered on April 4th. GROWING UP IN AUSTRALIA, YOU SPENT MUCH OF YOUR TIME AROUND STRIP CLUBS AND DRAG QUEENS. HOW DID THAT CONTRIBUTE TO YOUR SENSE OF SELF AND THE WOMAN YOU HAVE BECOME?
My parents owned drag queen strip clubs in Australia, and it was a very colorful world filled with creative and interesting people. When I was young I had the opportunity to be backstage helping them create their looks. They all had stories to tell. I talk about it quite a bit in my book It’s Not Really About The Hair. The performers always looked fabulous and insisted on doing their own thing, nomatter what the cost. That helped make me a stronger and more unique person aswell. YOU HAVE SAID THAT THE TIME YOU SPENT WITH DRAG QUEENS LENT ITSELF TO YOUR STYLE AS A HAIRDRESSER. HOW SO?
The drag queens were fearless in trying new things and really cultivated their personalities through their look. They taught me the relationship between inner and outer beauty and the powerful impact that looking the way you want to look on the outside has on how you feel on the inside.
I SAW THAT YOU NOW HAVE YOUR OWN LINE OF WIGS AND EXTENSIONS BY LUXHAIRCALLED “HOW.” WHAT WAS BEHIND YOUR DECISION TO LAUNCH THIS NEW PRODUCT LINE?
I have plans to launch several lines and started with hairpieces because they canreally transform how someone looks and feels instantaneously. I also wanted womento be able to have the hair they always wanted or be able to change their lookwithout the commitment. So many women suffer from thinning hair and feelembarrassed by it, and I wanted to give them secret weapons to always looking andfeeling fabulous. WITH SO MANY WIG LINES OUT THERE, WHAT DO YOU FEEL SEPARATES YOUR LINE FROM THE PACK?
The quality of my exclusive KeralonTMfiber is phenomenal. It looks, feels andresponds like real hair – in some cases even better than real hair. The styles aremodern and playful and all designed by me. The color selection is vast to ensurethat everyone out there can blend to their pre-existing color, and each shade is multitonal for natural results. Like everything I do I worked hard on this to give womenthe hair they have always dreamed of but never been able to achieve before. I NOTICED FROM YOUR TWITTER POST THAT YOU ARE A FAN OF “SHARK TANK.” WHAT IS IT ABOUT THAT SHOW THAT HAS MADE YOU A FAN?
I am a businesswoman and entrepreneur, so I love seeing people with a dream tryingto realize it. I enjoy the sharks’ tough love wisdom. It’s not unlike what Idispense on my show Tabatha Takes Over. NOT THAT YOU HAVE A WHOLE LOT OF TIME TO SIT AROUND WATCHING TV, BUT WHAT ARE SOME OTHER SHOWS THAT CAN CLAIM YOU AS A FAN?
Of course I am a Bravo junkie, but I also can’t resist a good Law and Order marathon. I am mildly obsessed with American Horror Story. YOU’RE ALSO VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT FASHION. WHO ARE SOME

There is no set date yet for the GOOGLE GLASS to be on shelves, nor is there a set price. According to The New York Times, price will range between $200-$600. This is one piece I would love to have in my bedroom, but the price can be as major as its technology. It’s the OLED TV (organic light-emitting diode) which has been available for a few months but we sure will hear about it more in 2014. Manufactured by Samsung, Panasonic, LG and Sony, prices range between $2,300 and $14,999. Even though LG’s curved 77-inch 4K OLED won a CES 2014 “Best of Innovations” award in New York this past November, there are some issues with this kind of technology (as expected). So, make sure you do your homework and read consumer reports and reviews first to know its pros and cons.
