The purpose of this architectural project was to introduce the ideas of space, form, and function in a comprehensive small-scale residential design. The project required the use of a tartan grid with outside dimensions of 21’x31’x21’. Within this grid, a series of 12 10’x10’x10’ cubic units were used. 6 of the cubes were to make up the first floor with the other 6 used as the second floor. The units could be shifted up and down or side to side to create a unique residential building, but no more than 12 cubes could be used in the design. The building was required to fit on a site of 30’x40’ with an unspecified location.

The purpose of this project was to encourage group work among students, while exploring the relationship between design and a structural/construction system. The consideration of constructive figures was the focus of the project, with tension being this project’s specified focus. In order to complete the project, teams of 3 were formed and either a natural site or urban site was chosen by each team. The natural site of an ancient theater in Thassos, Greece was chosen for this particular project. Everyone on the team was involved in each of the deliverables unless otherwise noted.

The purpose of this design project was to develop an understanding of the interrelation between the built environment and a new design. The site for this project was located in the11th arrondissement of Paris and was surrounded by existing buildings and an adjacent public garden. In this space, a small designers’ center and exhibition hall were to be created. In fact, the building was to be designed to represent an understanding of site, program, and conceptual design strategies brought forth by the team members. This project was completed in groups and each member of the team contributed to each deliverable.

BUILDING PERSPECTIVE

The purpose of this project was to create a one week charrette, while exploring the concept of incorporating sustainability into a simple design. The site chosen for this project was just outside a construction site in Katsuyama, Japan. Since the shelters were to be designed for on-site construction workers, it was expected that the shelter design be easily transportable to ease the movement process at the end of a construction project. In the intensive week that this project was completed, a major goal was the creation of a quick and efficient solution to an urgent need. Although this project was created in a group, each member of the group contributed to each portion of the project.

POSSIBLE MODULE PLAN

The purpose of this project was to develop a visiting musician residence in the Ilede-France city of Versailles, France. The exact site is just south of the grounds of the Palace of Versailles in the Parc Balbi. The park, which is enclosed by walls on three sides, provides a great challenge for an architect trying to achieve meaningful views of the historic landscape for the visiting musicians. The reason for the development of this residence is to house Baroque musicians that attend the Baroque festival of Versailles and make them feel at home on this site. In fact, the exact program of the building is meant to provide a housing area for the musicians to relax and rehearse.

The purpose of this project was to emphasize the integration of basic building elements, such as materials, details, structure, technology, program, life safety, and universal design into the development of a comprehensive small-scale design. The project was to create a small ancient life museum located in the downtown area of Champaign, Illinois. The creation of the building was in response to the digging up of a tyrannosaurus rex skeleton in Arizona, so the design of the building was to be developed around this find. Consideration of the site was also important, as it was expected that the new building would provide an accurate response to the environment and site in which it was to be placed.
