THROUGH SEPTEMBER 27

Welcome to Chrysanthemums & More!, the largest celebration of the chrysanthemum and fall plantings of its kind in Michigan. This year, explore the untamed side of the season as you take a look at nature’s raw canvas. As you journey through our indoor and outdoor spaces, look for displays of chrysanthemums set against a relaxing backdrop of fall’s best flowers and foliage. Notice how the textures and colors of the many different blossoms, leaves and seed heads put on a display that looks as relaxed and effortless as nature intended. Prepare to experience the natural sophistication of autumn in all of its glory.

Director of Horticulture Steve LaWarre explains this year’s theme Naturally and how you’ll experience this theme during Chrysanthemums & More!

MEDALLION GARDEN THROUGH SEPTEMBER 27 Enjoy this unique view of the Medallion Garden from above and note how the design relates to our Grand Entrance Garden located along the East Beltline.

DOEHNE WILDFLOWER MEADOW Mark di Suvero’s sculpture Scarlatti rises above the wildflowers and is visible from the walking path that takes visitors around all sides of this monumental sculpture. The combination of nature and sculpture is emphasized in this area which features many species of grasses and wildflowers including big blue stem, switch grass, and stiff goldenrod.

GWEN FROSTIC WOODLAND SHADE GARDEN Named for Michigan artist Gwen Frostic, the Woodland Shade Garden contains examples of indigenous plants and animals, some of the artist’s favorite subjects. Tall trees provide a canopy of shade and the diversity of fall color offers a feast for the eyes.
