Hue holds an important place in Vietnamese history, as home to the emperors and a religious and educational center. Drive south to the town of Cai Lay in the lush Mekong Delta. The Mekong River tumbles down from the Tibetan plateau and flows through Thailand, Burma, Laos and Cambodia before entering Vietnam. Here, it splits into numerous channels that nourish a flourishing agricultural abundance of rice fields and fruit orchards. Upon arrival in the Delta board the private 'Song Xanh', modeled after a traditional sampan. The boat's small size allows you to discover the smaller canals and tributaries of this region. Your visit includes the home of Mr. Huyen Thuy Le, a character from the novel 'The Lover' by Marguerite Duras as well as Thien Hau Pagoda. Back on board your sampan, continue to Can Tho stopping en-route at a Cao Dai Temple. The Cao Dai temple, a unique combination of the world’s major religions that counts Victor Hugo as one of its saints. Make an early start cruising toward the biggest and most colorful floating market of Cai Rang. There, hundreds of boats jostle to sell their wares loaded with fruits, vegetables and fish, with some boats selling noodle soup, coffee and soft drinks for shoppers. Day10 : Ninh Binh| Ha Long on land (B)

Today you’ll leave Hanoi for rural northern Vietnam and the site of the county's first capital, Hoa Lu. This ancient city was a political and cultural center of 10th century Vietnam, and home to three of the country’s royal dynasties. After visiting the two remaining sanctuaries in the old citadel, take a sampan (traditional boat) down the river to the grottoes of the sacred Trang An Caves. Limestone hills surround a peaceful river which passes through a series of caves (one which takes 15-minutes to pass through in darkness). An 'eco tourism' area, the only interruptions here are the sound of birds and the gentle paddle of the oar upon the crystal clear river. Fare welling the local family we continue to visit the Red Dao people at Giang Ta Chai where we also see a waterfall. The Red Dao women have very colourful red embroideries and coins on their clothing. On their head they wear a red scarf. Some of the women have shaved off their eyebrows because of a nice Red Zao legend. We continue along small paths in the rice fields, cross. the Muong Hoa River, Suspension Bridge and walk up to Supan where you will meet the car transfer back to Sapa. Overnight on Victoria train.
