’ We were very honoured to have hosted the Northern Alberta Angus Club tour this past June and thank all that were able to attend. We are equally honoured to provide the donation heifer for this year’s sale to help benefit the Junior program that the Northern Club puts forward. We wanted to donate a heifer that should leave a mark on the lucky winner’s program. We feel this heifer is a strong representation of our herd as well as some of the most influential sires we have used over the years. Pedersen Jody 23F has a stacked pedigree when it comes to female makers that are also full of performance. Please help us support the Northern Club and purchase some tickets at the Dutch auction.Best of luck!
1. The final bid in each round will denote the amount of that bidder’s donation. e.g. Round 1 - Final Bid is $300.00 to Randy Mitchell. Randy’s donation is $300.00. Round 2 - Final bid is $250.00 to Tom Jones. Tom’s donation is $250.00. Round 3 - The female is re-auctioned on a downward scale until no further bids are received at the low of $10.00. 2. Each $10 purchased (donated) represents once chance in the final draw. e.g. Randy Mitchell has 30 chances. Tom Jones has 25 chances and so on down the scale to the final $10 donation worth one chance each. 3. One ticket for every $10 donated, bearing the contributor’s name will be put into a draw barrel. 4. At the end of the sale, one ticket will be drawn, with the person winning the heifer.

ell 40 years all; what an accomplishment for everyone who has been a contributor to this great event. Many of great bonds and relationships have been made over this time. It is my privilege to continue the OBI name and continue to manage this sale; it just plain and simple - means a lot to me. The history of this event along with the people involved make this year’s sale very special to me. The support you all have given is overwhelming and we all will continue to promote this sale each and every year. As most of you know, OBI Livestock Ltd. Have combined forces with Castlerock Marketing; Shane, Devin and Dean. This move was made to enhance each and every sale we will work on by servicing the clients needed. It was and is a great fit to both of our companies. The Northern Select Tour this year was a huge success with over 120 attending. Viewing of the cattle, the great food served and overall the Angus fellowship was greatly appreciated by all attending. The Angus hospitality by Pedersen Livestock, Pugh Farms and MJT Farms was second to none. We would all like to thank you folks for hosting this year and job well done. The selections again were made by extensive searching through the cattle herds from the consignors. They all stepped up with opening their herds and letting the selectors pick top end females that they will showcase to you. These Northern Select cattle go you the new owners and work for them, so many cases in the past show this, just ask the consignors about the success their cattle have had. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact any members of the sales staff or the consignors directly or even better yet come down to Camrose on the 17th of November. Another very solid built Instinct daughter we have loved what he has done for our program the stoutness, correctness and consistency. A heifer that should be shown, her dam is a very solid stout revere cow that we love making it harder to part with this heifer. Her grand dam was also a great producer from the top notch LLB Angus program.

The first of two heifers in offer from our latest addition to the herdbulls. We were super excited when we purchased Early Sunset Xcaliber 1C from Jim Grant at Edam, Sask. in Dec of 2016. He has since proved to be worth getting excited for! A fancy made heifer here that appeals to your eye from every angle. She received many compliments at the Northern Angus Club Tour this past June where she was on display. A very balanced individual that goes back to one of our highest regarded foundation cows. The Foxtail Babe 55’05 cow (now deceased) leaves a line of 15 or so offspring walking the pasture at Avelyn. The dam of 02F is one of our younger power cows. Big deep and lots of rib with a beautiful udder. This heifer has a great future with the pedigree behind her. Come see her in the stall at Lloyd and Farmfair!

Another Early Sunset Xcaliber 1C daughter. I’m sure our friends down at Young Dale Angus and the respective partners could get together and write a book about the accomplishments in the show and sale ring of the Young Dale Xcaliber 32X bull. He still looked great at 8.5 years old when I saw him on the Sask. Angus tour this past August. This Calpurnia 16Z daughter very much shows the pattern of natural thickness and muscularity that we so much appreciate in a sire line. Again, a nicely balanced heifer from the same dam as our High Selling bull in 2015 which had similar breeding. A heifer we could easily keep cause we all would take home a pen full just like her. This heifer is the type that could work in almost anyone’s program. Young breeders take a look here!

A Tour of Duty heifer’s first calf, Cajun IC Blackbird 9F rings the bell. Initially we were somewhat disappointed with the Earthington Ice Cap 305C calves as they were so small at birth……the seven Ice Cap calves out of Tour of Duty daughters were all in the sixty to seventy-five-pound range. Have we changed our minds these are rare genetics that truly start out small and grow…….9F posted a 205day weight of 730 pounds with eye appeal and style. Blackbird 9F is thick wellbalanced individual who retains that feminine soft look that is sought in Angus females.

The Queen cow family has been one of the originals at Country Lane. They are known for their “look at me” presence. 45F herself is a moderate, long spined female that puts it all together. Two of her maternal sisters have been sold through this very sale to the Sharp family. Her mother is a no miss female that consistently raises the right kind of females that keep getting tougher and tougher to part with. Her Sire, U-2 Syndicate, is a bull that has done a lot for my herd consistently adding the depth and muscle pattern that many producers desire. Take advantage of this last opportunity to get one of his females.

Barbara 56F is a moderate, easy fleshing female with plenty of thickness, a wide top and loads of extension through her neck. Her dam, Pedersen Excalibur 305D, is a graduate from this very sale. Another one of the good U-2 Syndicate 238B daughters so make sure to analyze her closely and don’t pass on this showy female who has the potential for greatness! PAGE 8

“Lulu” is one of the few Red JAS Diplomat calves to sell this year. She has front pasture cow written all over her and show ring qualities to boot, making a cornerstone producer for someone’s herd. She has a chiselled front end with an explosive back 2/3rds. When you analyze her, you will appreciate her for the spring of rib and angularity that she represents. Her dam, a phenomenal uddered cow, Red Cinder Lisa 6X, is a daughter of Red Cinder Smartin’ Up 132P and we can see where she gets her width from. The Jestress cow family has been also at our place for a while since 1992 when we purchased a cow bred by well known cattlemen Bob Prestage. 44F great grandam 59M had 13 calves at out place definitely some longevity and proven genetics here. SERVICE: EXPOSED FROM APRIL 27 TO JUNE 14 TO BAR H MONEY MADE 1D. PREG CHECKED TO CALF EARLY FEB. I could write a book on this mating... 12E is a well balanced, easy keeping Unanimous daughter off of a top producing tank female. Her dam 30W is a high income cow, she is designated elite in the Canadian Angus association with a ratio of 5@113. She has produced one daughter through the Northern Select to LLB. Also 5 sons through our bull sale, one being the lead off, top selling 2 yr old last year which happens to be a full sibling to 12E. We actually like this mating of 30W x Unanimous so much that we flushed her that way this spring. This enabled us to offer 12E for sale as we have 9 full sib eggs in cows as we speak. Unanimous is proving his worth as he was the top seller at Peak Dot in the spring of 2015. As they say you don’t know a bulls true worth until you calve his daughters...he was worth it!! They are amazing uddered, moderate framed, easy keeping, attractive females. Unanimous breeds around 70 head naturally each year and we don’t plan to slow down anytime soon. Gamma 212F comes as an outcross pedigree to Red Angus breeders, with her grandsire being SAV Pioneer and her dam is a first calving Bazinga daughter that traces back to HF Tiger 5T. To add to the excitement BCAR Wildcard also shows up on the very bottom of her pedigree. Being a red hided female with these dominate black bulls alone makes this female exciting, but she is also a granddaughter of one of our very first purebred Red Angus females that was purchased from Koran Stock Farm. I always take extra pride in these females that originated from Koran Stock Farm, when we were just slowly starting in the purebred business and purchasing females to show in 4-H, Robert was always willing to offer advice or help with anything that was needed. Have always appreciated the help that he offered when we were just learning the basics of this business. 212F has EPD’s in the top 35% of the breed and higher for BW, WW, YW, Milk, and Total Mat. It’s a very exciting opportunity for us to once again be bringing females back to the Northern Select Sale. We have always found that the Northern Select has been a great sale to add quality females to your herd that work out. We have been expanding our herd the last few years; we bred around 200 females this spring. We feel that we are at a point where we can offer females from the top of our herd and still retain quality females that will improve our herd as well. Dana 148F comes from our consistent producing cow family the Dana’s. Her grand dam was a provincial 4-H champion female, and many time Champion at club, interclub, and district shows. We have 3 daughters of Dana 101’11 retained in herd this will be the first daughter of hers that we are offering for sale. To add into the strong maternal side of this female you get the added bonus that she is a direct daughter of Crush 16B. Crush was the dominate show bull in 2016 that was undefeated in every show that he attended in Canada and claimed Reserve Champion honours at the Denver stock show. 148F will make a great 4-H or prospect for a junior member and will make an even better cow down the road for the new buyer. If you ask us honestly this heifer is ‘the one that got away.’ Renee 106F is our pick of the heifer calves this year, but we felt since we held back her maternal sister by Nexus 1378 last year from eager sales management we owed them the opportunity here. 106F’s dam was a purchase from Ter-Ron Farms and would rank in the top 5 producing cows in our herd. As the expression goes she’s one those cows you could ‘breed to a billy goat’ and she’d have an amazing calf. The sire of 106F is Genex’s new red bull on the block Red LSF SRR Elite 5356C who we chose for his impressive EPD profile and curve bender potential. We feel this heifer will be ringing a few bells! After Pederson’s consigned two E.T. Chisum 6175 daughters to this sale a few years back we knew we had to implement him into the red gene pool. We are so pleased with the results! Sparkles 442F is just flat out cool. A red hided S Chisum 6175 granddaughter…how many guys can say they have one of them? We strive to take the road less travelled to come up with matings we can get excited about and this one takes the cake. She’s blood red, big barrelled and just an overall nicely balanced heifer who stands on a foot we are proud of. 442F stems from the same cow line as 422F.

SERVICE: A.I. ON MAY 10 TO KCF BENNETT TOTAL. EXPOSED JULY 1 TO AUG 30 TO KC STARBOY 10E. SAFE TO A.I. DATE. KC Echo 14E comes off the top of the heifer pen and is an exceptional SAV Angus Valley sweet heart of a bred heifer. She has the look of what we like in an Angus female, angular, moderate, correct and a little tank. If cow families are important, then the Echo’s are the real deal, the foundation base of Hamilton Angus. The dam PM Echo 14’13 was Cole’s pick of females from the 2013 Farmfair Highlights sale, she is a moderate framed, super attractive cow. PM Echo 14’13 outstanding daughter of HF Thunderbird 146Y, 2013 Farmfair Supreme Champion. This bred female should be a maternal foundation piece for any herd. She is bred to KCF Bennett Total has emerged as the best son of Sitz Alliance from the standpoint of combining physical superiority, performance and carcass excellence. He stamps his progeny with that “one of a kind” square hip, rib depth and stunning profile. MWC Miss Bando 9F is an ET calf out of our 46S cow that has daughters working at R Plus Simmentals, Johnson Livestock, Avelyn Angus & Bar-E-L Angus thru the KBJ Dispersal Sale. We bought her back that same day for our Flush program. Her sire, Baldridge Bronc is one of the hottest A.I. sires in the land. He was the top selling bull in the Baldridge Brothers Bull Sale in 2016. 2 Paternal sisters for MWC Cattle Co. won their classes at the Angus Show in Olds in October and 1 Paternal brother was second is a very powerful class. He was admired by a lot of cattleman that weekend. 9F is a fancy fronted, well footed, straight topped female with marketability written all over her, one you would heavily consider entering into your flush program. She will have many of admirers this fall.

SERVICE: EXPOSED MARCH 26 TO JUNE 30 TO HF ESPIONAGE 24D. DUE EARLY JAN WITH A BULL CALF. It was with much thought and indecisiveness that we offer this terrific female. She is truly one that already commanded much interest in her young life. She was a division finalist at the shows last fall and found lots of friends at the Northern Club’s summer tour that we were honoured to host. Tracing back to a purchase from this sale, her granddam, GGRR 10W, came from Gord Rattray’s great herd. GGRR 10W is also the dam of Pedersen Fridge 50F, a bull calf that we will also be campaigning this fall and turned many heads on the tour. Many generations of easy fleshing, massive middled females in this pedigree. 473E is sired by the female making, 2015 Reserve Senior National Champion, Bar-E-L Muchmore 155A. This female exhibits as much mass and rib as one could possibly want while maintaining herself in an attractive package through her front one third. We really struggled to let this one go, however, we have always believed in putting our best foot forward when bringing cattle to select sales. Exposed March 26th and Ultrasounded safe to an early Jan BULL calf. Bred to HF Espionage 24D a $30,000 high selling G-Man son. PAGE 24

A first daughter out of our new Herd Sire, HF Espionage 24D, was part of Hamilton’s Pen of Three in Denver and a high seller in their sale. The Espionage calves come very moderate and blossom into tremendous individuals. This female should turn into a wonderful producer, much like her beautifully uddered mother. Her dam, 83Z, is a powerful big middle female that came from the Wildmere herd. 7F would make a terrific Junior project and develop into a brood cow. Any Junior that purchases any of our heifers and takes them on to show can earn $100 for Champion or $50 for Reserve for any show they happen to win upon receipt of a champion picture.

We were very impressed with the calves we saw by Bruns Archer and decided to flush 2W that way. The four heifer calves we got from the flush are like peas in a pod. We let Shane have his pick on selection day. This is the first female and possibly the only we will ever offer from our 2W donor female. 2W is an absolutely stunningly designed female in terms of her angular design, level udder and ideal teat size and placement. We are quite sure this female will out produce herself every year just like her dam. This heifer is extremely long sided and straight in her lines. I could list as many positives as Justin Trudeau says “UM” in a speech, but will leave it at that. Have a look here.

The power house heifer in the pen this year. This female is very powerfully constructed from the ground up and commands serious consideration. The guess work is over in terms of growth potential and udder design simply by studying her on paper. When you set your eyes on her you are sure to appreciate her thickness yet still feminine and refined enough in her design. If you like them long sided and wide topped here she is. Hailey 148F has been an exceptional one to work with from the start, she was Shania’s favourite to halter break as she has always been a sweetheart. Her dam 85D being a first calf heifer and being sired by our recently acquired Red ACC Dynamo 42D from the Anderson family of Swan River, Manitoba was an excellent cross. 85D along with the other sizzler daughters retained have arguably some of the best udders in our herd, with sound feet and a correct structure. We look forward to watching the Dynamo progeny progress and develop. He has exceeded our expectations above and beyond. Do not miss this phenomenal junior heifer prospect.

Blackbird 116F has always been one to catch your eye through the spring and summer in our herd, not only for her being black in colour but also for her attractiveness, and her abundance of rib capacity. Being the first black heifer for us to offer for live auction, we think she’s one that fits the bill perfectly. We are excited to calve the first Xplicit daughters this coming winter for we feel they are going to make Cornerstone females. Not only a female with show ring potential but definitely a female that’s going to make a momma cow.

Waveny Ruth 46E is out of our Cudlobe Timeless 14A herdsire that did us a great job in his career at Waveny Angus siring very consistent progeny with commercial bull customers always wanting his bloodlines. His females are sought after when we choose to sell them. Ruth 60X has produced very well for us in her own right, we kept her only other daughter in the herd and 3 bulls sold commercially. Again, bred to the Poss Element son that has a low BW with explosive WW and YW characteristics. PAGE 29

Rob Holowaychuk
The Northern Alberta Angus Club has established the Rob Holowaychuk Memorial Fund in honor of Rob Holowaychuk who started the Northern Select Angus Sale 40 years ago. He, personally, took the time each year to visit everyone’s farm to make his selections for the upcoming sale. Rob was passionate about the cattle industry and enjoyed the people and the good times shared. He was also very proud of the Juniors who consigned at the sale and those who came to buy their next 4H project. These are some of the reasons the Club felt it would be most fitting to create a Memorial Fund recognizing Rob’s great loves. We would also like to thank the On Target Sale Group for contributing to this fund at their 2018 Bull Sale. Thanks to Dwajo Angus, Cinder Angus, Jones Land & Cattle and SIBL Simmentals. The Rob Holowaychuk Memorial Fund will be awarded as follows: 2 Awards per year will be drawn to the Juniors who purchase an animal at the previous Northern Select Sale and the value will be $1000 per award and to be used for the 2019 Sale. Open to all Junior members who purchase an animal at the 2018 Northern Select Angus Sale. Following the Sale, a draw will take place for the two winners from all Junior entries. The winners will be notified in writing. The Sales Credit will be awarded over and above any Junior Incentives that the winners may be eligible to receive.

THIS HEIFER SELLS TO THE TOP BIDDER WITH THE PROCEEDS GOING DIRECTLY TO THE ROB HOLOWAYCHUK MEMORIAL FUND. This heifer is a great donation from Allandale Angus towards the Rob Holowaychuk Memorial Fund. She is an outstanding calf from the U-2 Prime Cut 162D herdsire that was the High Selling Black Bull at U2 Ranch Sale 2017. He is a power bull with great numbers across the board. Her dam had a Northern graduate to Arntzen Angus and she was then out on the show road for Dean. She has also 3 heifers in herd. 42F in her own right is a fancy fronted, well made, stylish heifer calf that has a great future for her. Thanks again Wayne for this great donation from your herd and means a lot to me and my family and the entire Northern Select family over the 40 years of this sale.
