Style & Inspiration Mel is predominately a digital artist using Photoshop, Illustrator or Procreate. She also experiments with Gouache and painted textures to bring more interest and difference to her work. She is largely inspired by nature and the quirky things her kids get up to.
About Mel Born and raised in New Zealand, at the tender age of 16 Mel moved to Australia to pursue a career in ballet. She trained at the Australian Ballet School in Melbourne and went on to dance for both the Royal New Zealand Ballet and the Australian Ballet. After her ballet career was cut short due to a serious injury she went on to discover other ways to be creative working as an actor, graphic artist and web designer for many years before discovering illustration and surface pattern design. After 27 years in Australia, she moved with her partner and two young kids back to New Zealand to enjoy a slightly different lifestyle closer to my family. Her studio looks out over the beautiful Wellington Harbour and bushland providing her with an abundance of inspiration for her artwork.
